  1. tim-tam , the declining  authoritarian right MINORITY is waging war on the constitution, democracy. These shootings are just a natural vent for perverts with access to weapons that are amplifiers for those with hate driving their weak voices.

    1. Tim-tam, you might be just a little bit too thin-skinned for this site. We discuss politics here. This is not a support group. Politics is a rough-and-tumble arena. We're generally a kind bunch, but some events bring out the worst in people. Yesterday was an example of that.

      1. That is because you are NOT calling it for what it is. You are calling it for what you think it is. Of course, someone with your level of judgement, could not possibly be wrong. Nicht wahr?

          1. The only term he knows is "Shotastic"

Which would be much more meaningful as "random. "

But he has to use that copy of "big words for dummies" if he's ever going to get his dream date with Lauren Boebert.

  2. Kinda thin skinned aren't you tim-tam? For the record, I hope you will acknowledge that I am not one of those shitheads you mentioned. My only comment was that perhaps " Bubba" might save us a few bucks and murder the bastard when he gets to prison.

Your reaction to V. is not uncommon, but somewhat unwarranted. It is also precisely the kind of response V. likely intended to generate. Don't take him too, seriously.

You seem to dump everyone on this site into the same box. I'm thinking that isn't really fair. I have been visiting here for over 15 yrs. now, and have seen just about every possible opinion on just about every subject. Emotional and intellectual bruising goes with the scenery here. The overly sensitive don't usually stick around here anyway.

It would be unwise to expect your admonitions to have much effect. but, of course, you may certainly try. Good luck with that.

Otherwise. I am glad you participate here.

    1. Members of my community are shot and murdered every day. Everyone of those  people who were attacked  in Co Sprgs. were members of MY community. Because they were gay I cannot include them in MY community? You must be kidding because, if you are serious, you are seriously misguided.

I can see the issue is you have no ability to admit your own prejudices. I believe I see who has some soul searching to do.

        1. That you deliberately misspell my name speaks to your innate cowardice. I did not mention rape…just your hangup about it.

I do not implicitly support rape of any kind. I was raped when I was a child. Your enmity is misplaced, but you have a deep psychological problem

Get help…find a counselor and take your hatred there. Good luck. As disturbed and obsessed as you appear to be, you will need it.

  3. Flim Flam ….. You paint with a broad brush.

    “Homophobic conversation”? The entire conversation?

You are including moi – one of the loudest and most obnoxious queens on ColoradoPols – in your denunciation of those whom you deem to be homophobic?

I have to tell my husband about that!

    1. It's all true. LBWPOS is a loud and obnoxious queen.

And I'm an out bisexual. And cookie can speak for herself and her wife. Lots of queer folk and allies here mourning the tragic violence in the Springs over the weekend.

Yeah, little bit of a broad brush there. As far as your gripe with V, you really need to let it go. Conserve  your precious cranial fluids for what matters.

  4. Actually, Duke, I’m not above provoking discussion.  But in my sorrow at the spree I made just two points:

The murderer should face the death penalty.

This  is actually legally impossible since Colorado abolished it and it cannot be applied retroactively because ex post facto laws violate the U.S. Constiitution.

We can, and should, readopt it for hate crime.

I also urged President Biden to award the Medal of Freedom to the heroic patrons who overwhelmed this goon and saved so many lives.  We should t honor and encourage such self- defense.  Offer group training to victim groups  who ask for it.

Let me add a third thought.

Each new outrage triggers calls for new laws, which are seldom passed and even more rarely. enforced.  Colorado’s Red Flag law is a case in point.  A goon acccused of trying to kill his mother with a bomb is arrested after a tense  police standoff — then allowed to traipsewith a handgun and assault style rifle to a public place.

    Enforce the laws we have!

Yes,that will take more money and the Douglas Bruces of the world want to starve the beast.

But these ultra rightists are the beast.

Raise taxes for more and better police, social workers, courts and support personnel.

We can’t protect everyone in this gun-crazed society.  But we can do far better than we are doing now.

    1. I'm still waiting for an explanation of how a day-long stand-off that resolved with jailing and announcement of two counts of Felony Menacing and three counts of First-Degree Kidnapping manage to disappear.  Someone asked the Sheriff's Department, and they politely pointed to the District Attorney's office.  No published response that I've seen as of yet. I'm sure it is a case of them being busy. And apparently, not only were the cases not pursued — but the RECORD of the cases was sealed.

        Un-fucking-believable.

      2. I dunno … I'm willing to admit the possibility of background string pulling from Santee, CA to Colorado Springs, but I would like to have some indication beyond "it could have happened."

And Mom apparently appealed for legal aid to a group she was signed up for, the LDS women's group, but how do you know she is a "prominent actor?"  That goes beyond any reporting I've seen.

I'm uncertain about the impact of LDS — Grandpa Voepel apparently divorced and remarried.  Grandma & ex-wife Voepel apparently remarried and moved to Colorado Springs.  Mom Voepel doesn't appear to have a current spouse. I've not seen any indication of devotion from Anderson "Andy" Aldrich, like going on an LDS mission or frequent attendance of LDS services or youth meetings. So, I guess we'll be waiting for more from those who knew Andy in school or at jobs, or the people who lived next door who will be saying "well, I knew something was off, but didn't think the young man would do anything like this."

Any other rituals of post-shootings & mass-killings that I'm missing?

        1. "And Mom apparently appealed for legal aid to a group she was signed up for, the LDS women's group, but how do you know she is a "prominent actor?"

For some reason, I keep picturing the folks from the Juniper Creek Compound on "Big Love" showing up and vouching for the character of the shooter.

        2. Nothing about ritualistic killings…

The rituals I'm referring to are what happens AFTER the mass shooting.

"It's too soon to argue over gun control." "Guns don't kill people." "It's an aberration." "It is an issue of mental illness." and so on.

  5. I agree with tim-tam. When someone calls out a joke or trope from "back before all this woke nonsense" it is a very simple thing to just have an ounce of humility and listen to the person… to give them the dignity of respecting where they are coming from and to change your approach. All you lose out on is a stupid joke that, let's be honest, hasn't been funny since about the 6th grade. Go find another one.

  6. It is calculated that a net of about 1,450 more Republicans than Democrats died in Arizona as a result of COVID-19, mostly from denial. The Arizona Attorney General’s race was just “finalized’ with a margin of 551 votes in favor of the Democrat Kris Mayes.

That makes it the only known race in the country where Darwin cast the winning vote.

    1. That's Charles Gaba's work [Brainwrap on Daily Kos].  He makes a whole bunch of reasonable estimates of partisan differences in vaccine uptake, death rates, ages, and the like.

Trying to move from Presidential (Biden/Trump 2020) to the 2022 midterms is a bit of a leap in my mind.  Looking only at deaths, not those who got ill and changed their minds, or those who had a family member die, or any number of other impacts seems likely to confound the extent of impact, too.
