    1. Heidi has young kids that went through middle and high school in the last five years – so she would have information that yes, there are students who wear cutesy cat ears, or winter hats with dog ears, as a fashion statement, or to follow anime / Manga culture.

She would also know that nobody takes it seriously – there are no “litter boxes” provided. Everyone is quite clear that these are human beings. They get no special dispensations from teachers.

But Heidi has a financial interest in “saving the youth of today”.

      From her campaign website, heidiforgovernor.com:

She’s passionate about giving back and in 2013 founded Moms Fight Back, and later the Fight Back Foundation, charities to tackle the most pressing issues facing our kids today.

Moms Fight Back seems to me like a worthy group, advocating for young victims of sexual abuse. Her “Fight Back Foundation“, however, is kind of sketchy – a defense fundraiser for Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse has a similar name, and Heidi claims on her site that she is refunding contributions “meant for Kyle”. Did she refund them? Does she support babyface killer Kyle? Someone with more time than I have these days can investigate that.

Point is, Heidi is building a reputation and a database of funders as someone who advocates for issues affecting young people. So no, she doesn’t have to believe in “furries” to collect contributions and build that reputation. And as a mom of adolescents in the same age range as “furry fashionistas”, she would know that cat costumes are not a huge deal in schools.

  1. The important 9/30  campaign financing deadline is fast approaching.  I’m thinking Yadira Caraveo’s race in CO CD8 could use some more money along with Tim Ryan running against JD Vance in OH Senate race.  I’m open to suggestions re: close US House races we need to win to keep the House majority.

    1. Ballotpedia's list of close House races is here

538.com list is at the bottom of this page.

You can go state by state to find toss-up districts on RacetotheWH.com

I grew up in NM, so have an interest in races there.  the "toss up" is New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District election, 2022 — Republican Rep. Herrell won in 2020 by about 20,000 votes.  Reapportionment shifted boundaries, and Daily Kos' assessment is "Joe Biden (D) would have received 51.9% of the vote in this district and Donald Trump (R) would have received 46.1%."

Both the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) have selected their candidates in this race to be part of their respective Red to Blue and Patriot funding and support programs.

  2. To John in Denver.  I just made $250 contributions each to Yadira Caraveop (Again and again. I really like her.). Also the following open “GOP sears” per Charlie Cook:  NM 1 (your guy), OH1 (helps Senate race), NC1 (helps Senate race), and AZ1 (GOP incumbent but helps Senate race.)

    Thanks for your input.
