Morning.
Howdy.
Nice morning where I live, and in your neighborhood?
.
Does Ron DeSantis remind anyone else of Huey Long?
He (Long) was mentioned yesterday. Different politics…same style.
DeSantis is worrisome.
The sun is trying to shine in the high country – more rain on the way. Has been wonderfully odd to not worry about wildfire every day this summer.
Voter suppression gets pushback in NC
It’s complicated, but the gist of it is that Republicans unconstitutionally gerrymandered districts to disadvantage black voters. They also put in a restrictive voter ID law, and sweetened the deal with a tax cap that would cut funding for services.
NAACP pushed back, saying the changes were invalid because the legislators were illegally elected from gerrymandered districts. The state supreme court will ultimately decide whether elections in NC will be fair to all.
It will have national impact, as Judge Cheri Beaseley (D) is in a close race with MAGAt Ted Budd for NC’s Senate seat.
While the myth that Republican Party values include fiscal responsibility has not been true since, oh maybe Eisenhower, we have even more proof.
Not only has Rick Scott been squandering donors' money on self-promoting ads, but it appears the non-stop grifting by Trump has burned out much of the small donor base.
Don't think your last sentence is completely accurate. Trump has raised over $200 million for his PACs since late 2020. So many people gave to those and don't have much money left now for Senate campaigns.
It's nice of Trump to help us in the midterms this way. See, he's not 100% bad.
Trivia question of the day:
The truthy guy with the wooden teeth.
Both of you are correct.
Some of his "false" teeth were in fact real teeth purchased from living enslaved persons. https://www.mountvernon.org/george-washington/health/washingtons-teeth/george-washington-and-slave-teeth/
Actually, David is wrong. While Washington was commander in chief in the revolution, that did not translate to six stars in the small continental army. His highest rank was general — four stars.
However, there were no lieutenant generals in the Continental Army.
.
the only six star rank: General of the Armies (plural) John J. Pershing. That outranked General of the Army (singular) Dwight D. Eisen hower and the other five starsof Army and Navy Rank.
Yet,in fact Pershing never wore 6 stars, apparently seeing that as a little silly since no one then had five. He choose to wear just four but he is the highest ranking soldier in American history since the adoption of our constitution.
Congress did give Washington the postumous six star rank in1976! But that was 177 years after his death. Pershing was the only American ever to hold six star rank on active duty.
i didn’t waste my years at West Point for nothing.
I can hardly wait to see what excesses will be pushed by the politicians of 2026 and the 250th celebration of the Declaration of Independence.
Can Congress declare that former Founding Fathers didn't REALLY own slaves?
It’s up to “We, the people” to ensure that the Congress of 2026 represents us well, and moves our country forward.
I’m looking forward to truly patriotic 250th anniversary celebrations of gettiing closer to “Liberty and justice for all”.
As far as resolutions, either or both houses of Congress can resilve anything— but it has no force of law.
I just received a phone call survey from "central market research"
Questions were push polling
"Polis invested in schools like a jerk by buying electric busses but some kids cant read so good.
Considering this statement are you more likely to vote for the Republican Heidi Ganahl or the Democrat Shitbag Polis"
If anyone needs that info on what was in the poll let me know
Keep pounding that MAGA drum, morans….
The new MAGA in Texas: Mothers Against Greg Abbott.
Will you vote
Polis
Biden
Direction of the country
Polis electric bus / dumb kids
Polis fentanyl / 47 in crime
Are you a women or a man
Are you Republican lean Republican moderate lean Democrat Democrat
18-29 29-39 40-49….
Im surprised I was on the list so I’m guessing lots of Democrats are getting that “poll”
I don’t think schools are the shitholes Republicans are making them out to be. I dont think that crime is so rampant as to be a constant fear and what the hell is the 47th in crime stat?
It smacks as desperate that they are running a push poll with this.
who woulda thunk it …
AP reports "OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — A decisive statewide vote in favor of abortion rights in traditionally conservative Kansas was confirmed with a partial hand recount, with fewer than 100 votes changing after the last county reported results Sunday. "
100 votes (or nearly that) changing during a hand recount is actually a high number, and a VERY high number considering it was only a partial recount. This suggests to me that Kansas needs to revisit their election processes from the ground up.
Actually, no, Dano. With 99% of the votes tallied, the total number of votes cast on the Kansas ballot initiative was 922,607. The counties re-tallied were mostly the more populous counties. So, a safe assumption is that circa 500,000 votes were re-counted (I have not broken out the actual vote totals in those counties).
Less than 100 votes found that weren't counted incorrectly is a number so small that it would be statistically insignificant; like 2/100th of 1% of the vote.
