  1. There's a motion from Tina Peters …. a detailed timeline explaining how the situation unfolded

    Key points:

    20. At 11:41 a.m., the Court asked Ms. Peters to respond to the People’s objection and stated, “No travel is authorized until the [People’s] objection is resolved.”

    21. Mr. Steinberg was not in the office when the Court entered its prohibition on Ms. Peters’ ability to travel, and he did not see it until later.

    22. When Mr. Steinberg did see the Court’s prohibition on travel, it was too late.

    23. Ms. Peters left for Las Vegas without being advised that Mr. Steinberg’s office had not provided the Court with notice of her travel itinerary and without being advised of the Court’s July 11, 2022 travel prohibition.

    24. On July 12, 2022, Ms. Peters was attending a conference of sheriffs in Las Vegas and was one of the speakers. She even livestreamed her appearance at the conference with law enforcement.

    25. In fact, Ms. Peters was not advised of the Court’s travel prohibition until July 13, 2022, the day after she had traveled to Las Vegas.

    26. On July 14, 2022, Mr. Steinberg spoke with Daniel P. Rubinstein, District Attorney for the Twenty-First Judicial District of Colorado and explained that Ms. Peters had gone to Las Vegas without knowing that it was prohibited. Mr. Rubinstein stated that he would not object to quashing the warrant if Ms. Peters appears at a forthwith hearing on her motion to quash.

    27. On information and belief, Ms. Peters’ bondsman is willing to appear at the forthwith hearing and will testify that Ms. Peters has complied with her bond conditions, that he has not had any problems with her, and that he knew that she was going to Las Vegas on July 12, 2022.

I guess we will need to find out if DA Rubinstein will not object.

    1. PETERS – “Oh, I didn’t know about the travel prohibition.”

RUBINSTEIN – “OK, I guess you’re free to go then”

What the fuck, if this is what happens. This is why these people REPEATEDLY BREAK THE LAW, and thumb their noses at law enforcement while doing it.  There are just no consequences anymore.

      1. Well, one consequence — Peters actually has to travel back to Grand Junction.

As of the evening of July 14, Rubenstein says Peters is in Denver. Peters and her attorney requested an online hearing but Mesa County Judge Matt Barrett instead ordered Peters to appear with her attorney in court the afternoon of Friday, July 15th.

Following her court date, Peters will have another court appearance on August 5th.

        Court docket now has:

          1. Answer is:  according to the Colorado Sun:

A judge quashed an arrest warrant for indicted Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters on Friday that was issued after she traveled to Nevada without permission in violation of her bond conditions.

Mesa County District Court Judge Matthew David Barrett said he was giving Peters, a Republican, a second chance in part because her criminal defense attorney, Harvey Steinberg, took responsibility for Peters not knowing about a court order Monday prohibiting her from leaving Colorado without permission.

“It will not happen again,” Barrett said during a court hearing on Friday afternoon. “It will not happen again. She has resources to disappear.”

Sounds like double probation now … and no sanctions for the absent-minded attorney, either.

  2. We have a million problems at present. So I think it makes sense to step back and look at what really matters because otherwise we get bogged down in reacting to a different problem every week and nothing improves.

In my opinion the priority of the problems we face is:

    1. Democracy triumphing over autocracy
    2. Climate Change
    3. Everything else
    1. DavidThi808 … I’d agree it is worth stepping back.  I’d agree with what you are saying — but would probably phrase it a bit differently.

BBC Future had an article awhile ago that stuck with me.  I went back to find it: Agents of Doom: Who is creating the apocalypse and why

      Luke Kemp

Scholars of catastrophic risk often point to a handful of infamous human-made global threats: artificial general intelligence (AGI), catastrophic biological threats, climate change, lethal autonomous weapons, nuclear weapons and mass surveillance.

      ….

Global catastrophe is a case of public costs and private benefits. Too often we mistakenly think of the future of global catastrophe as a set of (falsely) separate hazards and technologies. The true risk underlying all of these is unaccountable, concentrated power.

As one Daily Kos commenter has taken to saying over and over …. the dirty hippies got it right:

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace,”..  Jimi Hendrix

        1. heard another apocalyptic scenario as I was driving home … CRISPR and the bio-modification it already could produce. Blake Crouch has a new book out, as described on Science Friday:

Blake joins Ira to discuss a future where gene editing is used to hack drugs, people, and animals, and how far off we are from the book’s climate disaster surveillance state."

Pretty scary when an author says he doesn't really think he's writing science fiction any more, and that his science consultant is saying "you have to go further with the threat" or something like that.

  3. Jayson's arrest report speaks for itself. Five witnesses, two adult males including the owner of the bowling alley, three teenaged girls including (then) Lauren Opal Roberts.  Jayson Boebert definitely flashed his junk, was combative and drunk, and should have had the penalty of being listed as a sex offender.

    – thanks to Anne Landman for original research.

    1. HT and a shout out to Anne, "keeping 'em honest" Landman. Anne has been calling it like IT IS, for some time. Western Colorado owes her a ginormous debt of gratitude.

Thanks, Anne. And you, Kdub, for pointing it out.
