    1. What a misguided reflexive act to take trusting the trumpian rethug party that is demonstrably all about deconstructing the US and its constitution by lying.

I am afraid. I am a CO unaffiliated tactical primary voter but will never trust the GOP again.

      What conviction?  Ignorance of reality?

    2. I don't think Ben voted for a Democrat ever from his description.

I'm supposed to be shocked a "libertarian" switched to the Republican party?

I'm more afraid of voter apathy.

    3. Let's see … "The AP examined nearly 1.7 million voters who had likely switched affiliations across 42 states for which there is data over the last 12 months, according to L2, a political data firm. L2 uses a combination of state voter records and statistical modeling to determine party affiliation." So, presumably May 2021 to May 2022. Maybe early June to early June.

       * I'm not certain how you would determine if they had "likely switched affiliations" or not. And what drives the "statistical modeling" they are talking about?   But, let's play along.

       * looking at party changes:  "more than 1 million people became Republicans compared to about 630,000 who became Democrats"  So, a net swing of 370,000. For context, US Election Project suggests in 2020 there were 234,632,887 eligible citizens, and 159,738,337 voted in the 2020 general election.  Cook Political Report looks at the 2018 House vote, and found

      Total Democratic Votes: 60,727,598 (53.4%)
      Total Republican Votes: 50,983,895 (44.8%)
      Total Other Votes: 1,967,161 (1.7%)
      Democrat Margin: 8.6%

       * odd that it looks only at Republicans and Democrats, and doesn't mention other parties (the example from Colorado in the article is a Libertarian who became a Republican)

       * it wouldn't have captured those who immediately changed after events January 2021.  My sense is there was a clear swing AWAY from Republicans in January and February 2021.  In Colorado's published results on Active Voter registrations, in the six months between November 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021, Democrats lost 2,813; Republicans lost 23,416, and Unaffiliated grew 67,844.

       * why not look at those who are changing registrations and have become Unaffiliated or Independent?

       * best of all, why not consider overall numbers?

    1. ??  testimony in her trial is over.  She’s been “placed on suicide watch ahead of her sentencing this week,”

If the trial and pre-sentencing report are already done, I’d think chances that she has something to offer that would impact other trials AND would be willing to spill what she knows seems pretty small to me.

      1. Trump was a big player in Epstein’s world, VG. There is room to wonder here regarding what Ms. Maxwell may know. Epstein himself was silenced, perhaps Mafia style. And it’s documented that Trump had interesting ties with the New York Mafia.

        1. That’s all true, chb.  But kiwi cites the fact that Maxwell has been placed on suicide watch as evidence that the Konspiracy plans to kill her.  That’s just dumb.  Of course, if the authorities had not placed her on suicide watch, the flightless bird would have cited that as proof of a Konspiracy.

Our girl is on a roll, having recently argued that Hispanics are racists who hate hispanics, and is not going to be denied her Konspiracy.  Heads she wins.  Tails?  There ain’t no tails!

          Tails are racist!

    1. We've known that for a while. Udall was right to talk about reproductive choice during the 2014 campaign. His mistake was talking nothing else.

Sometimes, we are called upon to walk and chew gum simultaneously.

      1. Incidentally, that famous line is cleaned up.  What LBJ said about Gerald Ford is that he was so dumb he couldn't fuck and chew gum at the same time.
