Any Quakers out there? I’m trying to find out what happened to one of the women who founded two land trusts in Denver, Iris Greene. She founded We-Life (aka Institute Mountain West, aka Institute for the study of Nonviolence) on 22nd & Emerson, and She-Life, aka Women in Transition House on 1895 Lafayette St.
The Quakers, or “Societies of Friends”, were very active in the antiwar movement in Denver in the 1970s. Is there an archive or collection of historical docs anyone knows about?
Kwtree, have you tried going to Meeting? I’ll bet someone there has the information you’re looking for:
Mountain View Friends Meeting
Website
Address: 2280 S Columbine St, Denver, CO 80210
Phone: (303) 777-3799
I might try that…after I hit the DPL Western History archives. I had wanted to include Iris in the history project I'm working on.
Iris wasn't a lesbian, but she was a strong feminist.
