  1. You just can't fix stupid…

Georgia electrical vehicle factory becomes Kemp, Perdue campaign battle

RUTLEDGE, Ga. — There are few things politicians love more than creating jobs and cutting ribbons.

But what if those jobs are on the wrong side of the culture war?

Plans to build a massive electric vehicle factory in rural Georgia have divided Republicans ahead of their primary next week, with Donald Trump-backed David Perdue criticizing rival Gov. Brian Kemp for offering taxpayer incentives to attract a “George Soros-owned woke corporation whose stated purpose is to combat climate change.”

Rivian, the well-capitalized electric pickup truck company that had one of the biggest IPOs in history six months ago, wants to spend $5 billion on a new assembly plant on farmland outside Atlanta. The mammoth factory will create 7,500 jobs and produce up to 400,000 cars a year in what officials say is the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history.

          1. Speaking of chariots, ICYMI, the Greek composer Vangelis passed away last week at 79. He was known in part for his innovative musical scores of “Chariots of Fire” and “Blade Runner.”

            1. Aw, that's too bad. Fond memories of "Chariots" getting a lot of play on AM radio rotations. Not my bag really, but a nice recognizable piece of work and pleasant listening.

                  1. Thanks. I'll have to look for those. It's hard to find CDs anymore. But I can order through Barnes & Noble, where I have a membership.

        1. Congratulations Michael!  The Lightning is extremely impressive and could eventually be the best selling vehicle of any type in the US in a few years.  The higher utility and low operating costs make a lot of sense as an actual work and pleasure vehicle.

Are there any Ford stores that promise not to add a five-figure "market adjustment" to the sticker price?  I know Ford is trying to rein in the practice, but they have limited tools due to the powerful "stealership" lobby — the National Automobile Dealers Association 🙁

              1. Meanwhile, I’ll keep driving my Nissan Xterra 4×4…..15.5 years old, 191,000 miles, still running fine, almost broken in.

I hope to get 250,000.  After all, one has to conserve if one is conservative.

                1. My 2006 Honda CRV has just 52,000 miles on it.  I helped the planet and my health by walking to work all those years.

                  We moderates gotta be moderate.

                2. I loved the Jeep Cherokee that I took 4-wheeling back in the ’80s (on legal trails only).  I was tempted to get an Xterra a few times.

Maybe when you hit the 250,000 mark in a few years, something even better than the Rivian will be available for half its current price.  Jeep is planning a full EV trail-rated vehicle in the next year or so.  The silent running in the back country would be a revelation. The drivetrain on a Tesla is rated for 300,000 miles and the battery pack for 500,000.
