  1. Oh, look. The Harlot of Whore-a-Lago emerged from a spa session to share a thought! Has she forgotten that every attempt to gut federal food security programs is always led by <check notes> a Republican?

    Honey,#BeBest

Melania Trump takes shot at Biden over baby formula shortage

“It’s heartbreaking to see that they are struggling and the food is not available for children in 21st century in United States of America,” said Trump.

    1. I tried to watch that clip…I really did. I didn't make it 60 seconds before revulsion filled my soul…and I threw up in my mouth just a little.

  2. I suppose there’s an easy fix for both platforms?  Just deny service to Texas residents? let them share their bs on “Truth”?

Texas law allows users to sue Facebook and Twitter for 'censoring' their views

A federal appeals court in Texas has issued a ruling that effectively enables residents of Texas, or the Texas Attorney General's Office, to sue Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or other large social media networks for moderating content based on "the viewpoint of the user or another person."

  3. Under- reported story:
Hundreds of high schoolers walked out Thursday supporting reproductive rights, privacy, bodily autonomy.

Hundreds across Colorado, in Denver and Boulder.
Hundreds of thousands across the country.
This is what the fourth wave of feminism looks like, y’all.

    1. Allow me to say thank you for your activism.

I believe we need each other if we are to prevail against this exclusionist, Christian, patriarchal, imperative. When the young people of this nation moved as one, we changed the conversation. We changed the nation.

Now, old hippies are called “boomers” by some, and the conventional wisdom is that our brains don’t work well. 🙄

But I believe it will take the brashness and vitality of todays’ young warriors, alongside experienced allies to prevail. The corporate, Free Market, forces at play are powerful and committed. The Age of the Oligarchs has begun. In cahoots with the Christian Patriarchy, these forces are driving the U.S. to Third World status for the profit of a very small subset of Americans.

Boomers and Gen-Xers and Millenials cannot afford to foster rancor and division among our ranks. We have ONE MISSION. The Republican party must be repudiated and rejected.

      VOTE BLUE!! NO MATTER WHO!!

      1. Yadda, yadda, yadda, yadda, Duke.

Funny thing about your rhetoric. You never say anything about what YOU are doing to solve these problems.

        1. Well, well. Did I hurt your Republican fee-fees?

1..I feel no compulsion to tell you anything about my activities. Why would I?

          2. What have you done to detoxify the GOP? It is YOUR party.

          3. I have listened to fatuous, dishonest, rhetoric from YOUR party for most of my life. YOUR party has coddled traitors, white supremacists, thieves, and greedheads, for as long as I can remember. YOUR party is the party of Kyle Rittenhouse and haters of every stripe.

          4. Face it, CHB. The Republican party is morally and ethically bankrupt. And as long as you continue your support for the organization that allowed the January 6th. attack on our nation, you are complicit. What are the “smart” Republicans you claim exist, doing to clean their own house? Apparently…nothing.  Have you read the news, lately?

I am not sorry if I have made you uncomfortable. Deal with it.

          1. Nice try, Duke, to deflect attention away from yourself to avoid answering the question. Didn’t work.

And to be upfront with you, nothing you can say makes me “uncomfortable.”

            1. I did answer your question. It is none of your business. My political activity is not limited to cash contributions, but I guess that is the only comparison that matters to you. Not that I am surprised.

..and none of that diminishes the truth of my comments. Where, in the Republican party, is there truth? Where is humanity and kindness? Where is loyalty to the “huddled masses, yearning to breathe free”?

              Nowhere.

The Republican party is the Party of White Aristocracy. The party of oligarchs and profiteers, and yes, thieves of all kinds. It is the party of exalted liars. Are there dishonest Democrats? Of course there are.

But, unlike the GQP, the dishonest ones don’t run the party.

ps..which #DarkMAGA PAC are you working against?

              1. Hopefully we are all writing thoughtfully about the ways that we can help our country and our communities Duke.  CHB is one of the better writers on this forum.  You are also a decent writer who expresses a clear perspective.  We can all get along on this site no question.

                1. Thank you for your kind words, GG. Yes, I’ve been a “semi-professional” writer since the 1970s for a variety of publications; and have taken several courses in creative writing beginning in college and since.

I use the word “semi” since it’s all been unpaid volunteer work for non-profits.

  4. Because, you know…Jesus <something> <something>

The front runner in the US Senate race in PA, endorsed by the former president, is holding a town hall on gun rights 24 hours after a mass shooting in a neighboring state, with a man who told an audience of 3,000 people last night to go out and smash skulls of Democrats.

    1. Mehmet Oz, MD, has called out Kathy Barnette for her reprehensible tweet about Islam.

‘Reprehensible’: Oz condemns GOP opponent’s tweet on Islam | The Hill

He said that it disqualifies her as a candidate.

Not really. Barnette will probably get a slight bump in the polls as a result of her comment.

Someone needs to explain to the good doctor that he is running in a party of xenophobes, racists, and Islamophobes.

      1. Someone needs to explain to the good doctor that he is running in a party of xenophobes, racists, and Islamophobes.

Who knew?  Possibly anybody who had been paying attention for the last 15 to 20 years.

        1. All that Racist noise is there to distract you from Republican Policy:

The Republican Party is going to take away your Social Security and health care, raise taxes on the middle class, and arrest you for murder if you have a mis-carriage.

          1. The sooner people (Americans of all ages, all colors, all backgrounds) realize the GOP no longer bears any semblance to the Pachyderms of yore, the safer we will be. The GQP is a cult with an enormous membership.

I still believe the little that is left of the Republican party cannot co-exist with the Trumplicans. I hear tell a number of Republicans are rallying behind Mike Pence as a 2024 candidate for president.

            Good luck with that.

  5. This is in reply to Gilpin Guys' comment at 11:42AM……

I am a bit surprised at your comment, GG. I take your meaning to be a suggestion that my comments aren't "thoughtful". Maybe that is code that I don't understand.

If "conciliatory" is what you were driving at, you are precisely correct. There are no more conciliatory words or expressions in my lexicon when it comes to this subject. I have spent, literally, decades listening to everything from equivocating Congressmen to lying oil and gas executives.

It is time now to "fish or cut bait". Republicans will stand by and disavow all of the mayhem created by the Orange Pretender and his Horde, looking away while criminals make the decisions in their political world.

"Oh…I am not a Trump Republican", they will say. It isn't MY fault.

Sorry, folks…EVERY Republican is now a Trumplican. It is his party. Until the GQP is done…the GOP is done.

Perhaps you are just defending CHB. That is fine, but it changes nothing. And that part about CHB being one of the better writers here.?..I disagree.

    1. I hope we can agree to disagree my literary acquaintance.  I find CHB to be clear in his understanding of the world and his conservative principles.  Blaming him for all the ills of the Republican Party seems like you are using him as a scapegoat because he is some one handy to beat up.  I have relatives who vote straight Republican but I love them anyway.  The worst comments I come across are the ones when people aren't friendly to each other.  Negev's comments comes to mind.  We'll bridge more differences if we treat each other with some degree of friendliness and skip the personal attacks.  It doesn't seem like much but it's a start to a better tomorrow.

      1. I understand you, GG.

Please go back to 6: 38 AM, on this thread. I don't recall being the one who made it personal. I am the one who made it real.

I didn't mention CHB. No, I am not saddling him with all the ills of the Republican party. He is just the one who always shows up.

  6. Primaries Watch List. The Squad Could More than Double in size. "Summer Lee could be the latest addition to the Squad"

Six progressive candidates to watch. Most of them are running in solid Democratic districts, meaning that if they win the primary, they'll win the district.

A Summer Lee victory (in Pittsburg) would help grow progressive power in Congress, adding to recent wins in this cycle and last.

In addition to Greg Casar’s win (in Austin), progressive immigration attorney Jessica Cisneros was able to force Rep. Henry Cuellar into a runoff for Texas’ 28th Congressional District. Justice Democrats have also backed organizers Kina Collins in Illinois’ Seventh District, Rana Abdelhamid in New York’s 12th District, and Odessa Kelly in Tennessee’s Seventh District in upcoming primaries.

Six new staunch progressives could seriously strengthen progressives’ influence in Congress. This term, progressives were able to have more sway given Democrats’ narrow majority in the House. They’ve used that power to push for more expansive stimulus checks and to bargain for more aggressive prescription drug legislation.

Five women and one man; nice. (Can you make the squad if you identify as male?)

Summer Lee is supported by the Justice Democrats, Sanders, AOC, Emily's List, up against Steve Irwin, a candidate favored by the Democratic Party establishment, who is receiving some deceitful advertising from AIPAC (what a surprise), which is reason enough to vote against him. (AIPAC is the right-wing Israel lobbying group, allied with the Republican Party).

Greg Casar in Austin, already won his primary.

Let's see how Jessica Cisneros does in the primary runoff against Henri Cuellar, who is supported by the Democratic Party higher-ups despite his anti-abortion stance.

    1. Not only that, Park Hill, but when the moderate Dems in marginal districts lose, the shrill voices of the LWNJ should be amplified in the next House of Representatives.

Unfortunately, the GOP has served notice that some of the Squad members along with Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff are going to lose their committee assignments.

No committee work means they will have time to hold press conferences, fund-raising events, and generally make noise.

      1. Unfortunately, the GOP has served notice that some of the Squad members along with Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff are going to lose their committee assignments

…only IF the GOP takes the house and McCarthy is elected Speaker. That’s several big IFs.

2 of the 3 people McCarthy wants to remove are established Democratic leaders. Swalwell and Schiff are hardly “Squad” members.
But we do know whom you personally would bar from the Big Tent if you could.

        1. If McCarthy is speaker, only three Dems will not get committee assignments.

If Jim Jordan is speaker, many more will be excluded.

        2. We need two to three Senators also, in order to bypass Sinema and Mancin.

That's within the realm of possibility. Need to watch: NH, PA, WI, NC, GA, AZ, and FL.

Also, it's probably time to replace Diane Feinstein.

          1. Need to watch: NH, PA, WI, NC, GA, AZ, and FL

Three of those currently are Democratic seats. Come January, NH and maybe AZ, remain in Democratic hands.

Of the remaining races, if the GOP screws up Tuesday and nominates an extremist in PA, we have a good shot a winning there. WI is also a maybe.

NC, FL and GA are lost. Best case scenario:  50/50 come January.

              1. Nothing is lost.

Truth was once a standard held high by our society. I think it still may be by the majority of people, but is no longer aspirational in the GOP.

The Republican brand is damaged. We must continue to speak the truth and be as aggressive in its defense as Republicans are in working to destroy it.

The tradition of portraying all things Republican with the color red needs to change. The GOP banner should be Orange.

      2. "Shrill voices of the LWNJs"? You mean Democrats.

Who's the nutjob? On the one side we have people who advocate shrilly for democracy and expanding the social safety net, and on the other people who are anti-democracy and want to sunset Social Security.

We absolutely need shrill voices supporting:
         – Support for a woman's right to choose
         – Medicare for all
         – Tax increases on the rich
         – Speeding up the conversion to renewable energy

Those are all very popular policies. What's left wing about them?

Moderate Nut Jobs have calm gas-lighting voices, always pointing out that we can't hurt the feelings of the big donors: drug companies, coal companies, or the rich.

        1. "Those are all very popular policies. What's left wing about them?"

Some are, some aren't but that is a different matter.

It doesn't matter. These things are cyclical. It's 1980 again with Joe Biden cast in the role of Jimmy Carter and Bernie Sanders with his free stuff agenda reprising the role of Ted Kennedy.

The Democrats will wander in the wilderness for a decade or so and after getting tired of losing elections, they will detoxify the party and make it a center/left again.

    2. Can you make the squad if you identify as male?

Yes..at least one member, Jamaal Bowman, is male. It’s the policies, not the parts.

I’m glad to see progressives advocating progressive policy in Congress, even if it makes some Polsters uncomfortable. The dirty secret about progressive policies is that they are popular with voters.

      1. I think that "moderate" means "don't say anything to upset them or else the Republicans will abuse you." In other words it's a co-dependency trap. Big clue, they will abuse you whether or not you stay quiet as a mouse.

The Republican Party certainly doesn't speak moderately. They have a brand marketing strategy which they use to juice election turnout. This is very effective in low-information, low-turnout elections.

Democratic Party brand management is horrible.

        1. "The Republican Party certainly doesn't speak moderately"

Absolutely correct. And just because they took a flying leap off the deep end means the Democrats have to follow off the other end of the precipice.

          1. Well yes, aside from the fact that the Democratic Party is FAAAR from jumping off the other end of the precipice. The weird thing is that the left side of the Party is proposing extremely popular policies; it's the moderates who are anti-popular.

It's almost like the moderate Democrats are trying to be old-school  Republicans, catering to the needs of big business and the wealthy. Naaahh! Are they really against the social safety net of Social Security and health insurance.

As for the Republicans, embracing the extremists seems to be working out really well for them.
