UPDATE: The Grand Junction Sentinel’s Charles Ashby:
When confronted Saturday about the statement, Bradford said the station quoted her out of context.
It’s pretty much an exasperating spiral of nonsense at this point, folks.
—–
We’ve definitely entered the loopy, denial-ridden “I really wish we could change the subject” stage of the Laura Bradford saga, KKCO-TV Grand Junction reported this weekend:
Bradford says. “Both of those officers lied. They lied at the time, they lied on the ticket, they lied on their report, I don’t know why. That’s for the Police Department to settle over there. But it was frustrating for me to not have the support of my caucus at the time I needed it the most.”
Rep. Bradford denies stating publicly that she would leave the party, and lays that blame on a media feeding frenzy. “A reporter, when I was walking down the hall, shouted at me, are you thinking of all your options, well certainly, they inferred party change, I never spoke the words, that the party change was on the table.” [Pols emphasis]
She adds, “My principals and values are Republican. They haven’t changed in the last day, they haven’t changed in the last week they’re not going to change.”
Bradford says she announced she would run for re-election last November, and those plans haven’t changed…
So, the first thing we feel confident saying is that Rep. Bradford has now absolutely burned any bridges she may have had in reserve with the Capitol press corps–since she, with this denial that she ever threatened to disaffiliate from the GOP over her supposed “mistreatment” by fellow Republicans, has basically called them all liars. Like Charles Ashby of the Grand Junction Sentinel, who reported over and over that Bradford had threatened to leave the GOP–is Bradford saying Ashby invented the statement that she was “95%” decided to do this?
That’s a pretty serious thing to accuse a reporter of, folks.
Lynn Bartels of the Denver paper reports again today that Bradford promised her paper a decision by one week ago last Friday on whether to leave the GOP–and spoke in clear terms of “how unhappy she was” with GOP leadership. The fact is, every media outlet in the state reported that Bradford was considering leaving the Republican Party. These reporters did not make up the words that came out of her mouth, or the context in which those words were offered. And to try to deny it after it was so widely reported is just patently ridiculous.
And while we’re on the subject…“both of those officers lied,” Bradford now says? Because we thought that one of the officers had lied, and the other officer “came forward” a few days later to “tell the truth” about what happened? That’s what Denver Police Department spokesman Matt Murray said in his bizarre press conference, announcing their statements for days that Rep. Bradford had invoked legislative immunity were based on lies that one of the two cops corrected. So does this mean that the cop who “exonerated” Rep. Bradford was lying too?
Seriously, folks, this is a very troubling, if a bit incoherent blather of denial after the reality of the last two and a half weeks. What will this woman expect her constituents to believe next?

Whew, that’s the not-so-lovely Miss Bradford. The citizens of Mesa County, even those with which I heartily disagree most of the time, deserve better. Will the R’s primary her with someone better? Who knows. Will the D’s put up a viable candidate? Sadly, I have my doubts.
There’s a lack of leadership from all GOPs involved. I agree with you that she should be primaries, but I think she should’ve been asked to step down, too.
The writing here has been excellent, poking Bradford’s story with the right amount of intelligence and exasperation!
I’m pretty sure there is going to be an announcement soon about a D running against Bradford.
Good luck.
District 54 became even more Republican in the last redistricting.
If you want to get rid of Bradford, find an R to primary her.
A Democrat, no matter how well-funded and aggresive, would be extremely lucky to get within shouting distance of 40 percent in the general election in the new District 54.
The party would be better off with a candidate in District 55, where incumbent Ray Scott might not be eligible to run.
Any D that runs in that district better have some strong ties to the country club R’s (who are mostly moderate) and a good base of disillusioned R/U’s. Otherwise, he/she should reconcile themselves to getting a protest vote but not getting elected.
Those who say 54 has gotten even more R-like are correct. There are no Country Club Rs in 54–they all live in 55.
Dems having a better chance in 55.
the shovel away from Bradford.
but also about her words after the incident, publicized around the state. Reminds me of the saying about your word being your bond. Amazing that she seems to believe that she can just bury all this in rewritten history.
The real Laura could hide only so long. She gets some pressure on her, and she blows up.
Because of recent actions, interviews, and behaviors by Rep. Laura Bradford, she’s displayed every symptom and fulfills every definition of suffering from a serious addiction. She’s now become mentally deranged. She should be asked to resign immediately, or, we, the people, should force her into a recall decision and remove her from office by reason of incompetency.

until November anyway.
Best to find somebody to primary her. You can’t replace somebody with nobody.
I understand. I’m sure you’re more well-versed regarding this subject than I.
She’s burned many bridges and has some detractors in the local Republican party. There’s a primary coming; that’s the best time to get rid of her.
you need to cut Ms. Bradford some slack (God knows everyone else has, and there’s no doubt she expects it) . . . she was probably a little drunk when she gave those earlier quit-the-GOP interviews. It just wouldn’t be right to take advantage of her . . . play your part and enable, please.
