Peter Boyles Begs "Big Liars" To Back Away From The Brink

UPDATE: The Colorado Times Recorder has more from the same bombshell interview:

“Patrick, please quit this! I want you to quit it, I want you to win! People showed up on January 6th because they were lied to! Donald Trump lied to them. The people around Donald Trump told lies.”

Conservative radio host Peter Boyles’ frustration was unmistakable as he pleaded with state Rep. Patrick Neville (R-Castle Rock) to stop promoting the Big Lie…

“You will lose because you’re saying crazy stuff,” said Boyles. “Middle of the road voters are going to run from you like a striped-ass ape. [Pols emphasis] I mean, why support the amendment about fraud when you say there is no fraud? Listen, I want I want you to win.”

—–

Denver’s conservative AM talk radio scene isn’t normally what you’d call a home for rational discourse about the issues, particularly not after the recent slide by the Republican Party into increasingly bizarre conspiracy theorizing and militant radicalization during the Trump years. 710 KNUS in particular has developed one of the worst reputations for sleazy-trending-seditious rabblerousing in recent times, hosting members of the fascist Proud Boys and having to let go a producer who led a double online life as a straight-up Hitler-loving Nazi.

Rep. Patrick Neville (R).

Having necessarily explained that context, there’s a lot of discussion today about an interview yesterday morning conducted by longtime 710KNUS shock jock Peter Boyles, who we have criticized in this space for many years for his regularly offensive on-air antics, positively begging Republican Rep. Patrick Neville to see reason and give up the fruitless quest to prove the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump. Against Neville’s relentless adherence to discredited Trumpian talking points about the election, Boyles responds with sincere dismay we did not expect. There’s a lot in this interview to note, but by 26:15 Boyles is landing what we can only call knockout blows:

26:15 BOYLES: Patrick, I have no idea what to say. I love you. I want you to win. But you, the seeds of your destruction are within this kind of nonsense, it truly is. [Pols emphasis] And I don’t know what to say. I mean I really don’t know what to say. You’re a good man.

NEVILLE: Well what I want to say is we’re trying to make it easier to vote, harder to cheat and I think in Colorado we actually have Jena Griswold is trying to perpetuate…

BOYLES: Yeah it’s her fault. Let’s blame Jena. Let’s blame Jena for the vote and let’s blame Jena for Tina Peters. Let’s blame everybody else but taking a hard look at yourself…

Boyles’ unconcealed anger that Pat Neville is still obsessed with the results of the 2020 election might come as a surprise when you consider that a majority of Republican voters actually agree with Neville. But a short while later, Peter Boyles, the right-wing radio host we have lampooned and vilified for a wide variety of very good reasons, laid the hammer down on Neville better than most liberals could manage, exploding the gap between the Trump base bubble and the majority of voters Colorado Republicans will face in the fall:

27:20 BOYLES: Voters are concerned because they were lied to. And that’s the crux of it. That’s the truth of it. The lies that were told. I have no answers. [Pols emphasis]

NEVILLE: I disagree. I think they’re actually bringing up some legitimate issues and [inaudible] sunshine on all this…

BOYLES: Nothing zero has been proven. All the lawsuits, the recounts. Nothing’s been proven and you will destroy the chances the Republican Party has to change the face of this state. And I say it to you with kindness. What you are doing, and Dave’s doing and others are doing, you’re gonna destroy this state. [Pols emphasis] Any opportunity in nine months from now, in the November elections, because this is going to get stuck in your face by the media, by the Democrats, and by middle-of-the-road voters who think, ‘he believes what?!’

Although Rep. Patrick Neville was on the receiving end of of Boyles’ ire for this interview, as you can see Boyles’ message is not limited to Neville, but also fellow conspiracy theorist Rep. Dave Williams running for Congress in CD-5, and implicitly every other Republican who is still dogmatically working back from their preordained conclusion that Trump should still be President. With Republicans enjoying the usual midterm presumption of advantage against the party in power, the refusal by a majority of Republicans to accept that Joe Biden won the last election and move on to the present one threatens to diminish or even undo those aspirations.

Even Peter Boyles can see it. But Republicans running at every level in Colorado, including the whole pack of U.S. Senate candidates and the putative frontrunner in the gubernatorial race, are powerless to change course. Boyles cringes while Neville speaks not just because of the crazy stuff Neville says, but because he knows who Neville speaks for.

It’s not even Peter Boyles’ Republican Party now, and that is truly a deep decline.

  1. The sad, funny thing is that for all the other thousands of Republican lies that Boyles has been so willing to swallow, he just can’t seem to choke this one down? . . .

. . . and Neville’s like, “Why even bother, now, Peter? — remember, we’re the ones with the guns, and all those fans of lawless intimidation and voter suppression.”

The only difference of opinion between these two is tactics . . .
