  1. Is it a foreboding that all 4 NFL playoff games this weekend were won as time expired, with razor thin margins? I see our 2022 elections exhibiting a similar tendency.

We just have to make sure the refs are impartial…but the GQP has other ideas.

  2. R.I.P at age 88 (per Yahoo News yesterday), Don Wilson, Tacoma, WA.

Wilson was the last surviving original member of The Ventures, the greatest instrumental rock band in history. The Ventures have sold over 100 million records; served as a model for many subsequent acts; and are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Wilson stopped touring in 2015, but continued to record with the band. I still have some Ventures records.

  3. Washington Post does a retrospective about Denver turning back and refusing the Winter Olympics of ’76.  The story behind the 1976 Denver Olympics that never happened

Disciplined messaging in that day’s “social media:”

Led by state Rep. Richard Lamm, the Citizens for Colorado’s Future successfully portrayed the Denver Games as an unwieldy fiasco that would overwhelm taxpayers, damage the environment and bring more sprawl to an area many in the state thought was growing too fast. They typed brochures, handed out leaflets and visited VFW halls and Kiwanis Clubs, talking about overpopulation and Olympic budgets filled with hidden costs, always asking the same question: “Who pays, and who profits?”

“It was the harbinger of what would happen” in future elections, said Steven Katich, a Lamm staffer who was not part of Citizens for Colorado’s Future. “The Olympic thing was the first time for us that the establishment order had been upset.”

  4. Here's hoping the Jan. 6 committee competes a thorough investigation. I would expect they will identify several individuals who could be charged with seditious conspiracy by the DOJ. I would optimistically expect that the 14th Amendment, Section 3, would be applicable. (I'm not a lawyer)

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.
