Our “2012 World’s End COP* cruise” still has a few select January berthings available for ports-of-call in . . . lovely South Carolina and spectacular Florida!
. . . while you’ve still got time.

…or just don’t watch TV, you’ve probably seen a commercial in which a young woman procures climbing equipment with her Citi Bank credit card. The last scene is a rather breathtaking view of her standing percariously atop Fisher Towers in Utah. The scene is equally breathtaking for exploding into a verse from a song that goes “Somebody left the gate open.”
That little snatch of song intrigued me, so I tried to find out who it was. I haven’t followed music closely in about 25 years or so, so in another time I probably would have asked my daughter. She was a lot more current on the music scene; had a subscription to Rolling Stone and everything. But I can’t do that anymore, so I had to turn to Teh Google.
What I found was an extraordinarily talented woman named Laura Pergolizzi, originally from New York, who now performs in and around LA under the name of L.P. Forgive me if you know this already–I’m completely out of touch.
She’s not exactly a newbie. She’s recorded a couple of albums going back to 2001, had a song covered by Rhianna, and had one of her tunes (“Wasted“) used as the theme song of the cable TV show “South of Nowhere.”
Here’s her song, “Into the Wild,” that’s used in the Citi Bank commercial.
Here she is live in the vocal booth covering my favorite Roy Orbison tune, and absolutely knocking it out of the park.
And this one, for its name alone, ought to appeal to MOTR.
There’s a lot of great stuff on her YouTube channel. I wish I could post it all. I really like her.
Your curious mind comes up with some awesome intel… Great find.
