Granite State GOP Prez Debate Open Thread

  • by: Colorado Pols

Confesses the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza:

The first Republican presidential debate of 2012 is just hours away – 9 p.m. [EST] on ABC (or WMUR if you are in New Hampshire) to be exact – and we are, admittedly, a little too excited.

Alrighty then.

  1. That is how I heard Newt’s threat to take down Romney described yesterday. My popcorn is ready. If Newt does not come through I might cry.

    1. … & if Perry did, Romney would not have “won” Iowa (if he did at all).

I think the tea party, by alternating their support among idiots & losers while edging out more heavyweight folks (Daniels, Barbour, etc.), assured Romney has no serious competition. The tea party has to be the most self-defeating movement I’ve ever seen.

      1. Daniels would have been formidable, not so sure about Barbour.  I still honestly believe that the serious republicans are waiting it out until next round in 2016.

        1. Haley would have blown it with some racist remark that would make “weird uncle” Santorum’s sound almost, naw it would not. Santorum is as racist as all the republicans. Haley is old school Mississippi racist. He is ignorant of how damned racist he is. And, he cannot grasp how much of a Southern racist he is either.

  2. adoption by gay couples.  First Santorum said it was a state issue, then in almost the same sentence he said it is a federal issue and the US Constitution should be amended to mandate that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

    1. How the right wing Tea Party types strictly construct the 10th Amendment, then clamor for a federal mandate defining what marriage is (either statutorily or by constitutional amendment) to impose that mandate on the individual states.

Same goes for the proliferation of federal anti-drug legislation to justify the failed “war on drugs” policy.

  3. The reason none of them are really attacking Romney is that he has become the alpha male.  He is the winner and the rest of them are scared and do not want to risk not getting sweet spots in his administration.

    over and out.

Newt? He said “I am going to tell mommy.”  He has asked the tv stations not to run negative ads.  I bet that has romney shaking in his boots…except doesn’t he own tv stations?

  4. TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH!  Freedome to marry whom you love, nah–not so much.  Look, get a contract, like you would with your plumber, and call it good.

  5. Liked it when Newt said if he wasn’t at the debate tonight he would be home watching the college basketball playoffs.

Don’t worry Newt, you’ll have plenty of time to watch the college basketball playoffs in March since you’ll have been long gone from the race by then.

    1. Actually more entertaining than last night.  There was a lot of direct engagement.  Santorum and Gingrich got in some good blows on Romney.

      Paul was a non issue.

Perry and Huntsman as marginalized as ever.
