December 2, 1859 – Militant abolitionist leader John Brown is hanged for his October 16 raid on Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
But did they serve him French toast as a last meal?Absolutely nobody wants to know.
Another arcane fact about John Brown: He was my great-great-great-great-grandfather. Although there is possibly an adoption in that line. It is unclear if his son was the biological father of my Great-great-grandmother Leona, of if he adopted her after marrying her mother (Leona was born out of wedlock), but he is the only known father to her.
Elisabeth Epps is running for State House 6 ( Aurora, N Cap Hill, S Park Hill, Lowry). I’m excited to support this brave activist.
Steve Woodrow ( D) is the incumbent. Don’t know if boundaries have shifted post -redistricting, but they may have.
Woodrow was drawn into another district, I think HD-2.
HD6 has no party of Aurora in it. The new HD6 is between Colfax and 6th Ave from Broadway to Quebec and then on the east side of Quebec, it’s Colfax to Mississippi up to the eastern Denver County line.

I never thought I would be saying this but thank God for TABOR.
I actually live in this district. I think we need to be careful on Epps’ goal of ending bail — too many violent crimes are being committed by dudes who were simply released in states that have gutted the bail system. I’ll be backing the far better qualified Katie March, a veteran legislative aide to two House speakers. And I can actually vote for her.
Considering the state of the city center due to the pervasiveness of homeless encampments, open-air drug use, petty theft, trespassing and the seeming inability to the City to curb any of it (non-prosecution of petty crime and the lack of bail have been contributing factors) Epps might have some issues with her messaging.
Now if she get bold and proposes some solutions such as increased state funding for addiction treatment, crisis intervention teams, and the elimination of single family zoning statewide (my favorite far-out goal) maybe she can get some traction. But I think a candidate that pushes the increased public safety route will carry the day.
No country makes more solar panel cells than China.
Boy, I really am way outside the loop these days. I don't know any of the current Denver legislators any more. I barely know who my own are. (and it'll be a new State Senator next year since I was cut out of my previous district)
The biggest mistake Democrats are making (in my opinion), is they are running on a list of issues. While Republicans are running on their philosophy (which also lets them avoid their issues).
Most people don't vote based on issues, they vote for the person that resonates as being more like them. Or that they're the kind of person they want making decision for them.
To quote Simon Sinek (awesome video), Martin Luther King didn't say "I have a 20 point plan," he said "I have a dream." Spewing out what the infrastructure plans deliver is not the route to victory. Painting a picture of where we are taking the country, and that the infrastructure plans are helping us get there, that's the route to victory.
So each time you see a Democratic candidate speak or you receive their emails, ask yourself, are they discussing a plan… or a dream.

No, no, no! That’s a list of specifics. It needs to be something like (this is not great) “Have the uber rich pay their fair share to benefit you and your children.” That’s a dream.
Yeah, the Republicans are really good at this kind of messaging.
Also, they have a very-well financed propaganda network to coordinate and spread the word.
Problem => Solution
Solution => Benefit
