  2. Trump’s New Company Is Planning For His Possible Conviction (Or Presidential Run)

    The future is unclear for Donald Trump. On the one hand, a grand jury has already accused the Trump Organization of committing a series of crimes, and rumor has it that more indictments are coming. On the other hand, the real estate tycoon might run for president again in 2024. 

    His new venture, the Trump Media and Technology Group, is planning for both possibilities. Buried in an 86-page merger agreement released last week, the Trump Media and Technology Group said the former president’s position and ownership would be structured in order to maintain continuity at the company if a “material disruptive event” were to occur. The document goes on to define a “material disruptive event” as one of two things: either Trump (a) running for office or (b) being personally convicted of a felony.

    I’m A Twenty Year Truck Driver, I Will Tell You Why America’s “Shipping Crisis” Will Not End

    My prediction is that nothing is going to change and the shipping crisis is only going to get worse. Nobody in the supply chain wants to pay to solve the problem. They literally just won’t pay to solve the problem. At the point we are at now, things are so backed up that the backups THEMSELVES are causing container companies, ports, warehouses, and trucking companies to charge massive rate increases for doing literally NOTHING. Container companies have already decreased the maximum allowable times before containers have to be back to the port, and if the congestion is so bad that you can’t get the container back into the port when it is due, the container company can charge massive late fees. The ports themselves will start charging massive storage fees for not getting containers out on time — storage charges alone can run into thousands of dollars a day. Warehouses can charge massive premiums for their services, and so can trucking companies. Chronic understaffing has led to this problem, but it is allowing these same companies to charge ten times more for regular services. Since they’re not paying the workers any more than they did last year or five years ago, the whole industry sits back and cashes in on the mess it created. In fact, the more things are backed up, the more every point of the supply chain cashes in. There is literally NO incentive to change, even if it means consumers have to do holiday shopping in July and pay triple for shipping.

    This is the new normal. All brought to you by the ‘experts’ running our supply chains.

        Funny, neither of my postings above mention the problem is rooted in union issues? It appears we can lay this at the feet of the modern financial constructs.

        Time to impose some holistic thinking into our system.

    Justice Clarence Thomas and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. questioned Stone about unusual aspects of the Texas law that allow any person, anywhere to sue someone who helps a woman terminate a pregnancy after six weeks and without a personal connection to the abortion at issue.

    “Usually there’s an injury to the individual” that permits a person to sue, Thomas noted. “What’s the injury?”

    Stone said an individual could experience “extreme moral or psychological harm” after learning that a friend had chosen to get an abortion in violation of the law.

    2. Looks like the money shot in that exchange came from Texas's lawyer. Ol' Clarence's participation is noteworthy in that he usually says nothing at all during oral argument. Here, it appears he was lobbing a beach ball to counsel, under-handed, hoping the lawyer would make a point about standing. The point, of course, is that federal constitutional rules governing standing in federal courts do not apply in state courts, and that the question of whether the statute violates some standing requirement of the Texas constitution is a question for Texas state courts, not SCOTUS. Judging by that limited excerpt, the lawyer whiffed spectacularly (not that it'll make any difference to the outcome of the case).

     * Trump and his supporters at the White House refusing to do anything effective

     * the aftermath among politicians and election officials

    Here’s hoping they eventually do a story on planning and financing of the Jan. 6 demonstrations, the investigation effort, the prosecution effort, the guilty pleas and verdicts, and how those involved were sentenced.

    3. AND the Donks are paying $9 million of his remaining $9.7 million salary for this year. It's pretty clear they're closing up shop for this season. Miller ain't happy, but it's a nice deal for him. He's going to a legit contender and will be playing alongside the best D lineman in football.

      Meanwhile, the Donks are looking at an ownership change followed by a tear-it-down-to-the-studs retool. Gonna be a long decade.

        2. The team isn't an estate asset. It's been owned by a trust since well before Pat Bowlen died. It's no secret that the NFL has long been displeased with that arrangement.

          There was a probate proceeding in Arapahoe County District Court aimed at blowing up the trust (in part) that was scheduled to go to trial this past summer. The case settled at the eleventh hour. The terms are confidential, but word around the campfire is that a sale will occur before next season. We'll see, as there's litigation pending in another Colorado court to determine whether the Estate of Edgar Kaiser has a right of first refusal.

          As an NFL exec, Elway is dumb as dog shit. However, he remains much beloved by fans. Any new owners may well keep him around for public relations purposes, but no way he'll have any say whatsoever regarding football ops.
