Ballot Returns for 2021 Are Not Great

The Colorado Secretary of State’s office released updated ballot return numbers for the Nov. 2, 2021 election today. You can see the full report HERE.

With one week to go until Election Day, less than a half-million Coloradans have already cast their ballot. As you can see from the chart below, this is a slower rate of return than in previous odd-year elections:

Among the more interesting pieces of information in today’s report is that voters in Denver don’t appear to be all that enthusiastic about voting in 2021. Denver County and Jefferson County often go back and forth in terms of total number of active voters in Colorado; right now Denver voters are returning ballots in numbers well below Jeffco, El Paso, Arapahoe, Douglas, and Larimer Counties.

Thanks for the heads-up! My own ballot is languishing on a table at the moment. Time to get that fucker filled out, signed and in the drop box.

It's plenty easy this time around: mayoral, city council and BVSD races with clear choices; hard passes on all 3 state issues; and a not-so-hard pass on ranked choice voting for future mayoral and city council races.

    I hope you’ll consider voting Yes on 301 to protect the conservation easement on the last large urban open space in Denver (and currently within the budget of the city to acquire as park space using Measure 2A park acquisition funds), and No on the developer-funded ($340,000) 302 which exempts PHGC land from the definition of a conservation easement in conflict with state law.
    
    If you do Facebook, Brother Jeff Fard will be discussing today at 2pm why those two votes are critical for the city and the neighborhood’s health.
