Open Line Friday!

“‘You watch, Rush, do not doubt me,’ he said to me, ‘Obama is setting up riots. He is fanning the flames for riots and eventual violence. That’s all he’s got.’ And now you look, all of this talk about millionaires and billionaires and people not paying their fair share and this relentless assault on achievement in this country has resulted in what? The appearance of a spontaneous combustion of angry white college students who are fed up with all the injustices that this country is famous for. That’s his base. Occupy Wall Street is his base.”

  1. from the ONN

WASHINGTON-According to a Rasmussen poll released Thursday, nearly all American voters share a deeply held fear of botching another election in 2012, with the majority admitting that selecting candidates suitable for public office is something they are just not very good at.

  2. The Search for Bold Leadership

Obama, in contrast, has been content to search, as he recently told Ron Suskind, for the “perfect technical answer” to every problem-policy proposals, like the stimulus or health-care reform, that respectfully weave opposing viewpoints into some sort of pragmatic whole. As president, Obama has assumed the role of the bipartisan realist-the leader who prides himself on seeing the world as it is, with all its political limitations, and doing the best he can within those constraints.

    1. His grip on influencing elections is slipping rapidly as his grumpy old fans die off. Remember how successful he was in first stopping the McCain nomination and then stopping the Obama presidency in 2008?  It’s just going to get worse every cycle for the poor old drug addled blowhard and his army of frightened, bitter old bigots.

“In news sure to inject shock and awe into the Republican political primary season, a Zogby poll released Thursday showed Herman Cain leading the Republican field, topping former front-runner Mitt Romney by an astonishing 20 points. Cain would also narrowly edge out Obama in a general election, the poll found, by a 46-44 margin.”

      1. Then again, like I’ve said here several times, dads with babies are like, my favorite thing in the known Universe.

I don’t even LIKE babies. Geez.

  4. If I had five minutes with Herman Cain, I’d use it asking him to please read this incredible editorial by a Jewish woman about Islamophobia.

Bhuiyan worked arduously, though unsuccessfully, to prevent the execution of his would-be killer, Mark Stroman, a swaggering self-avowed “red-neck patriot.” At his trial, Stroman raised his middle finger at the two grieving widows, whose husbands he had slain.

But Bhuiyan’s compassion, transformed the murderer. “At that time here in America everybody was saying ‘let’s get them’-we didn’t know who to get, we were just stereotyping,” Stroman told a reporter. “I stereotyped all Muslims as terrorists and that was wrong.” Moments before being executed, Stroman said. “Hate is going on in this world, and it has to stop. Hate causes a lifetime of pain.”

I wish Stroman were alive to preach his epiphany to those who are writing, yelling, garnering votes and cashing in on the ongoing smear campaign against all Muslims. Like Stroman, their commentary targets without care for the true nature of those they would harm, or inspire others to harm. Their victims are considered guilty by virtue of being born Muslim.

(But really, read the whole thing. It’s not long.)

  5. Pastor who endorsed Perry on Friday says Romney is a cultist

    By Chris Moody

    Political Reporter

Dr. Robert Jeffress, the influential pastor of a Dallas-based megachurch, offered his formal endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. Friday, shortly before he explained why Perry’s opponent atop the GOP field, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, is a cultist.

Jeffress introduced Perry before he addressed the annual gathering for social conservatives, making a special point to emphasize Perry’s Christian faith–as opposed to Romney’s, who a Mormon, which Jeffress said was a “cult.”

“We understand Mormonism is not Christianity and thus the difference between somebody who’s moral and good like Mitt Romney and a true born-again follower of Christ,” Jeffress said after Perry’s speech, adding that Perry had welcomed his endorsement. “I really think the decision for conservative evangelical Christians right now is going to be, do we prefer somebody who is truly a believer in Jesus Christ, or somebody who is a good moral person but he’s a part of a cult.”

“It’s not politically correct to say, but it’s true. Mormonism is a cult. And for those reasons, besides Governor Romney’s lack of consistency on social issues, I think Rick Perry is the most electable choice among Christian conservatives,” he went on.

  6. Oh Noes, ArapaGOP, say it isn’t so!

If our overlords won’t protect us, who will?

Is it really true that the GOP campaign slogan for 2012 is “Fuck America, Yeah!”

A Bloomberg Markets investigation has found that Koch Industries — in addition to being involved in improper payments to win business in Africa, India and the Middle East — has sold millions of dollars of petrochemical equipment to Iran, a country the U.S. identifies as a sponsor of global terrorism.

Products you might want to avoid:

The most visible part of Koch Industries is its consumer brands, including Lycra fiber and Stainmaster carpet. Georgia- Pacific LLC, which Koch owns, makes Dixie cups, Brawny paper towels and Quilted Northern bath tissue.

    What a corporate culture:

Sally Barnes-Soliz, who’s now an investigator for the State Department of Labor and Industries in Washington, says that when she worked for Koch, her bosses and a company lawyer at the Koch refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, asked her to falsify data for a report to the state on uncontrolled emissions of benzene, a known cause of cancer. Barnes-Soliz, who testified to a federal grand jury, says she refused to alter the numbers.

“They didn’t know what to do with me,” she says. “They were really kind of baffled that I had ethics.”

Koch’s refinery unit pleaded guilty in 2001 to a federal felony charge of lying to regulators and paid $20 million in fines and penalties.

    But wait, there’s more:

Bentu says he felt dismayed because Koch Industries clearly tells all of its employees around the world that integrity is the company’s No. 1 value.

“You feel totally betrayed,” Bentu says. “Everything Koch stood for was a lie.”

Good business is where you find it.

From 1999 through 2003, Koch Industries was assessed more than $400 million in fines, penalties and judgments.

Mere speed bumps when you’re making $100 billion a year.
