      1. “Enough?”, apparently. . . .

. . . I mean, have you ever met any cephalopod so devoid of awareness that it would write the same tedious, inane “today is …” dreck day after day after day??

        1. That is an interesting interrogative.  But, I was just gonna go all English teacher on ol’ dave.

          My point is, it should properly be;

          “Awareness of Cephalopods Day”.

          Just sayin.

          1. Also much much better than running a foot through the garbage disposal, or picking your nose with a nail gun, or, god forbid, ever suffering through another four interminable consecutive days and nights of an insufferable Yevrahevets flame war thread . . .

. . . You’re saying that there may be some kind of low-bar requirement here for lack of imagination and tedious inanity, maybe buried somewhere in the fine print?  Well, that would explain a few things . . .

      2. Cephalopods are thought to be the most intelligent and developed invertebrates, and may be sentient beings.  And unlike humans, they don't have to pay to live.

    1. Great to see your re-emergence, Powerful Pear. I've missed reading your perspective, even if skews widely apart from mine.

And a $12.56 minimum wage (for "full time" @ 2000 hours a year) would be relatively close to a poverty wage for a small family.

Prior to the start of the pandemic, Colorado’s child poverty rate had reached its lowest level since 2000 at 11% compared to the national rate of 17%. The federal poverty level for a family of four is $25,750 annual income.

          1. It was the 10 years (the Reagan era) when the minimum wage was fixed at $3.35 that put us behind and Republicans in Congress have fought tooth and nail against raising it fast enough to catch up. It needs a great big bump to get it where it would be if it hadn't been for Ronnie and his "trickle-down" theory.

    2. Huh…looks like the recent rains have the moron bushes blooming again.

Yes, PP. It is good news for Melissa…and Dylan…and Michael…and Rodrigo…and Helen …and hundreds of thousands of other Coloradans.

But, of course, it's those "other" Coloradans you have a problem with, isn't it?

      1. Next up: blossoms of the rare Carnegie bush?

I think we can assign Turd Blossom to Ron-Loren Hanks. KBB is no George W. Bush and Ron-Loren is no Karl Rove, but Cinderalla’s shoe kinda fits…

    3. Welcome back, Roger……

Isn't the Washington Examiner that newspaper owned by Rev. Moon's Unification Church? Inquiring minds want to know.

          1. Washington Examiner still has a few good moments, but not as many as the former, also Anschutz owned, Weekly Standard ran by Bill Kristol and the now-retired Fred Barnes. I subscribe to both it and National Review to see what the right is thinking (note I’m not referring to the far right wing).

I get Mother Jones and Hightower Lowdown for the more or less moderate left. Jim Hightower has his moments, but can be a hardcore spendthrift progressive at times. Mom can be pretty good, especially David Corn.

  1. Blowman,
The Feds have a minimum wage, the State can have their own minimum wage and the same for a city.

Your friends at Progress Now, touted the greatness of increasing the minimum wage, it’s what Melisa demanded.

If Melisa is employed she is likely making much more than minimum wage. However her circumstances have probably not changed from four years ago because of inflation, just as you cited in your response.

Government wage and price controls will never advance an individual’s economic condition no matter how many times you read Marx or listen to Bernie.

    1. “…probably not changed from 4 years ago”.

You have data to support your supposition? Likely, your wild ass guess is wrong.

You make a number of statements that simply have no basis in fact, but that isn’t surprising.

Minimum wages protect workers from those who would exploit them. An anecdote:

Years ago, while filling my truck with fuel, I was approached by a man who exited a pickup truck with Texas plates, who had noticed my company name on the door. The conversation went like this..

He…”Hey…what you paying your help around here?

Me…” I pay my guys well. My pay scale is near the top, locally. ” (As I recall, I was paying carpenters $20/hr. about then).

He…”Whooee.. I ain’t paying any where near that. I just get me some of them wetback boys (his words). They’ll work for $5 an hour.”

He walked away, muttering and shaking his head.

      1. $5 per hour for unskilled labor beats $5 per day in Mexico, which is why there is an immigration problem. Immigration really needs a big overhaul instead of being just a political pawn. Hopefully I’m not the only one who noticed how all the talk of “immigrant caravans” by Trump ended after the 2018 mid-terms.

With all the continuing blather, since the 2020 election, from the far right about “open borders,” I haven’t noticed a whole lot of such talk from the Chamber of Commerce types, some of whom want that cheap labor.

    2. That’s why it’s called a minimum wage, Roger. That makes it a floor, not a celing. Please note that your stated $12.56 Marxist government amount generally prevailing wages in our free market economy. It’s how that equation works in a tightening labor market..

Yes, states can (and have) set minimums higher than a federal minimum (currently set by Congress at $7.25)

      Good to have you back.

    3. If Melissa (. . . it’s always just one imagined and/or charicaturized person, isn’t it? — all that’s ever needed to prove a simpleton wacko nutter FOXer’s rule . . .) is already earning more than minimum wage at some other part-time, no-benefits, dead-end job, then why you makin’ the special visit here just to mewl and bitch — [Roger, Roger, Roger] you ignorant slut?

. . . I guess you’re worried that objecting to all these laws and regulations takes up too much of the valuable time of your favorite GOPer legislators; which could be better spent leading “Fuck Biden” cheers, concocting or spreading the latest baseless conspiracy fictions, and scamming mileage to prop up their failing minimum-wage-paying businesses?

      1. I guess the upside is Roger and his ilk have finally stopped talking about Linda?

Linda Taylor … had as much in common with a typical welfare rule breaker as a bank robber does with someone who swipes a piece of penny candy,” Levin writes. Yet “Taylor’s mere existence gave credence to a slew of pernicious stereotypes about poor people and black women.”

  2. Spammers are getting more sophisticated. The two latest spam diaries, ostensibly about UK immigration and Pennsylvania primary elections, are both actually spam diaries. The internal links go to commercial sites.

    1. “Spammers,” indeed.  But, I see no evidence that Roger’s “getting more sophisticated.” . . .

. . . on the contrary, it’s the same old regurgitated blather. More likely he just recently found the lost post-it-note, containing his passwords, that had slipped underneath the naugahyde barcalounger?

(. . . then too, it could just be that autumn is the time here in Colorado when we see fungi popping up all around?)

    1. Hmmm, first screedings on minimum wage, and then into Haitians and CDLs . . .

. . . So, still unwilling to pay enough to attract qualified citizen drivers, Pfruit??? . . .

      1. “Regurgitated blather………”  Hmmm.

Have a nice day, Diogenes. Keep on it out there, with your lantern, looking for that honest man (or woman).

      2. You know how conservatives are, Dio…Constantly Heaving Bullshit.

I am trying to ignore them, but they are like deer flies. Not much of a bite, but VERY annoying.

        1. "Not much of a bite, but VERY annoying……."

Nice one. First part describes you. I never find you annoying, just humorous, sort of a far left version of Moderatus.

          1. Consistently Half-assed Blabber…? Is that better?

What did you say your name is?

            Completely Helpless Buffoon?

You see, whoever you are, this is the second time you have butted in on an exchange I was having with someone else. I asked you politely to butt out. But, typically, a Mr. Know-it-all like you can’t resist…even though you rarely have anything to say that is relevant or inspiring.

I thought perhaps you noticed that I have assiduously avoided the reply buttons following your name. However, you seem unwilling to follow suit. So I will press you once again. If you have something to direct at me…do so. Please refrain, however, from using conversations I am having with others to interject your “conservative” tripe. And I promise to refrain from directing any comments to you, or really, mentioning your acronym at all.

It is called “de-escalation”…what do you say? ..let’s try it..

            Whoever you are.

  3. Colorado visitor John Eastman got more attention.  This time, it was on Digby's Hullabaloo:

    The coup lawyer’s extremist past

It mentions the NYT story … but then points out Eastman's past did not get full mention, and Digby is nothing if not thorough at finding and telling "the rest of the story."

Eastman is anything but a “little-known but respected conservative lawyer.”

He has a decades-long history leading hate groups, especially those against LGBT people. He is the chairman of the “National Organization for Marriage,” a highly funded group opposing marriage equality

Wonder what Ganahl will say about recruiting such a fine Republican attorney to be the voice of conservative scholarship.

  4. Paging Kristi Noem…

    1. Bilions Hidden Beyond Reach

The files detail more than 29,000 offshore accounts, more than double the number identified in the Panama Papers. Among the account owners are more than 130 people listed as billionaires by Forbes magazine and more than 330 public officials in more than 90 countries and territories, twice the number found in the Panama documents.

    2. Just another day in anarchocapitalist paradise for SD, which essentially created the malevolent consumer credit system from whole cloth. Of course, people are way too preoccupied with Noem’s shtupping of that odious trumpanzee and providing ham-fisted nepotism for her idiot daughter to give a fuck about falderal like this.
