    1. A little closer to home.  Lest we forget…

    2. Far more important than Dave’s latest nit: linda Greenhouse in NYT reminds us that 40 years ago today Sandra Day O’Connor was sworn in as the first woman justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

      1. “Nit” is a very poor word to use in a response to a posting that refers to Native Americans: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Chivington

Damn any man who sympathizes with Indians! … I have come to kill Indians, and believe it is right and honorable to use any means under God’s heaven to kill Indians. … Kill and scalp all, big and little; nits make lice.

        1. Corkscrew, if y ou think the fact that Indians haggled a boat from the slave owning Clark expedition is more important than the first woman on the Supreme Court, then you have nit for brains😈

          1. It's "Gorky", thank you very much. And arguments that depend on twisting names are bullying. F**k off.

For the record, I said nothing about whether your opinion about the historical fact of the day had merit. I was commenting on your use of the word "nit". You doubling down on it does little to impress me.

            1. Why would I want to impress a self-proclaimed nitwit like you, Corkscrew?

Look it up.  Nit picking means seizing small, irrelevant, facts and acting like they matter.

              It’s Dave’s MO.

              An d your’s.

Finally, my dictionary says “Gorky” means awkward or strange. Unless you were named after the great Russian writer, you’re better off sticking to Corkscrew as a nickname.

    1. I believe that is a pretty common sentiment in these parts. Alvas’ neighborhood, I mean.

I keep waiting to see Buffy appear and take out a bunch of them. They are afraid to take him (Fat Donnnie from Q) on for many reasons, I suspect. People like “Blanche” Graham gave his party some seriously bad advice.

Our local crop of conservatives are pretty raw around the edges and humor seems to have left them. The people who threw in with Trump are losers. But, no more so than those who, for whatever reason, did not stop him.

If the Republican party wishes to survive it must amputate the wing of the party that carries the infection…the criminal, racist, disloyal, infection.

The Republican party must do this for themselves and their country.

America will not stand for this.

      1. Colorado Republicans started the road to oblivion back about twenty some years ago when they turned hard right.  First they drove most of the women out of the party, then anyone who was not a believer in shrink government so it could be drowned in a bathtub.  Then fully anti-gay.  When the Koch bros tea party bus drove around, they were with it.  There is no real Republican Party left. There is a facist group and a white supremacist group (which melds in with the evangical group).  I do remember many good Republicans but they are long gone.

    2. 'Twould be truly astonishing if Trump won the 2024 nomination and was able to lose the popular vote for the THIRD time.  He'd be in rare company:  Henry Clay (1824, 1832, 1844); and William Jennings Bryan (1896, 1900, 1908).

    1. My favorite extreme statement — hard to imagine it will be topped in the remaining days:

Conservative radio host and politician Larry Elder said during a July 18 appearance on Prager University’s “The Candace Owens Show,” that an argument could be made in favor of reparations for slave owners whose legal “property” was taken from them after the Civil War.

A Black man telling a Black woman (in a qualified, "only thinking about it" sort of way) that the owners were owed reparations. Apparently overlooking some small details, such as the now understood obscenity of humans as "property" and the economic reality of unpaid labor.  Not to mention that whole "THEY LOST" factor.

  1. I notice Taco Bell has started a series of commercials focusing on disagreements about the nature, identity, if you will, of its new taco/sandwich. Perhaps I am over analyzing this, but it seems almost like they are exploiting the division and confrontation we, as a society, are facing on too many fronts already.

Perhaps we/they should start noticing these things, turn down the confrontation a bit (or as Alan Jackson put it, “turn all the negative down just a tad”), and focus on its great taste , or something irrelevant like that.

    😜

    1. It is not just the Taco Bell advertising tactic.  (strategy?)

Ultimate fighting and most 'major' sports. Grocery stores. News papers (at least they used to – I am not sure there are any two newspaper cities left). The political parties. The Federal Reserve. etc. etc.

Your suggestion is good. But in the case of Taco Bell, all their food tastes the same. It is always jut format, never a flavor distinction.

    2. "I notice Taco Bell has started a series of commercials focusing on disagreements about the nature, identity, if you will, of its new taco/sandwich"

Then next great divide will be deciding once and for all whether it is macaroni and cheese, or cheese and macaroni.

  2. Fat Donnie endorses woman for governor. Jared is nervous. Heidi is excited.

"Of course, having her I think might be better than having your existing governor, if you want to know the truth" — Trump on the relative merits of Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp

    1. thanks, kwtree.
Story suggests that lgbt vets discharged prior to 1998, before DADT, are still ineligible.  I hope we can yet reverse any such remaining injustice for my lgbt comrades from the Vietnam era.
It is well to remember that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Don’t Pursue was not the cause of anti lgbt bias in the military but a strategy to ultimately mitigate it.
As half measures usually do, it eventually gave way to equal access to service. But the harm done to older LGBT veterans remains and time is running out to mitigate it.
Bless Clinton for at least opening the way to eventual equality in the military.
