    1. “The demographics race we’re losing badly,” said US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”

That was 2012. Little did we know the Yugest angry white man generator ever known to mankind was lurking just around the corner.

  1. September 17, 1862 – American Civil War: George B. McClellan halts the northward drive of Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army in the single-day Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest day in American military history.

        1. If Barnes' inane declarations about potato day, artichoke day and other dumbass commercial promotions fill your heart with joy, Corkscrew, you are in a distinct minority. Most polsters are thoroughly sick of his stupidities.

        2. I have to agree with V on this one.😲😲🤫 Davebarnes’ inane “today is” posts trivialize what should be a political blog with serious issues to discuss. It gives the impression of “ a show about nothing”, to borrow the Seinfeld show description.

They probably do amuse some of those of davebarnes’ age and gender.  The rest of us, not so much. And they are pinned to the top of the daily thread, every fricking day. Since Dave is a moderator and starts the daily thread, he gets the first pinned post every day, of course. The gigantic egotism of that practice speaks for itself.

It’s getting harder for me to recommend that new readers check out Pols, when I know the first post they’ll see is something silly and relevant to nothing anyone cares about.

    1. McClellan won because through a stroke of luck he got a copy of Lee's orders in advance.

And McClellan was so afraid to take any risks, he turned what could have been an overwhelming victory into a bloody brutal slugfest that he won – barely.

      1. At least, the resistance seems to have forced the Barnesdance to turn from his beloved dumbass commercial promotions like Potato Day to oddball anniversaries of real historical events, like the 127th anniversary of Henry Clay's hernia.  That's progress, I guess.

  2. “Over 100,000 Americans are currently hospitalized with Covid-19, and over 1,000 people are dying every day.

“..over 98% of them have one thing in common: despite the ready availability of Covid vaccines, they chose not to get them.”

Forbes – freakin' pro-big government commies, anti-liberty obviously.

Chamber of commerce and 'the street' should be in favor of vaccines and vaccine mandates.  Capital is worthless without labor and consumers.

    1. I have no idea where Forbes is getting their data.

      CDC says:

The current 7-day moving average of daily new cases (146,182)

Hospital admissions:  "The current 7-day daily average for September 8–September 14, 2021, was 11,165. "

Hospital occupancy:  CDC's daily average 9-9 to 9-15 is 88,506.

      Deaths:  1,448  Current 7-Day Average

One study making comparisons between vaccinated, partially vaccinated, and unvaccinated is here:  https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/pdfs/mm7034e5-H.pdf

      Their numbers for deaths are:

      Died total: 207 (0.5)   vaccinated: 24 (0.2) partially vaccinated:  7 (0.5) unvaccinated: 176 (0.6)

It is noplace close to 98%.

    1. California tried … and triggered a Proposition campaign (The labor legislation known as Proposition 22) …. and the Proposition now has been deemed unconstitional.at a trial court level…. appeals will continue.

      1. Unfortunately, the California legislature didn’t factor in those gig workers who want to be self-employed. The number included consultants of all kinds, other contractors, writers, etc.

Myself, I’m a consultant in several business areas. While 95% plus of my work is pro-bono, I would object strenuously to someone trying to make me an employee of another person or company.

  3. Speaking of COVID, this was included in an email message to Club 20 members this morning, regarding Club 20's recent Fall Conference in Grand Junction:

We were made aware that the myColorado contract [sic] tracing app indicated that there were COVID positive individuals in attendance both Friday and Saturday of our event. As such, we would encourage anyone exhibiting symptoms to get tested per CDC guidelines.
