The Science Says Everyone Needs a COVID-19 Booster Shot—and Soon
The example of Israel clearly suggests as much. Because it was the first nation to mass vaccinate its population, scientists around the world are paying close heed to events unfolding there. The government began rolling out the first doses in January and by July had achieved two-dose immunization of 58 percent of its population over 12 years old. Though an estimated 1 million adults still refused vaccination, the government eased nearly all behavior-restricting regulations, including mask-wearing.
But by July the Israeli miracle sobered up, revealing that fully vaccinated people were protected against severe disease and death but not necessarily against infection. In early July, the Ministry of Health announced effective immunity among the fully vaccinated had dropped to 64 percent, from the 95 percent level measured two months previously. Then, on July 17, the ministry reported a surge in breakthrough cases involving the delta variant. Most cases occurred in people either who had been fully vaccinated more than four months previously, indicating the waning immunity problem, or who were just completing their shots in July, too recently to be completely effective.

He’s still beating that “anti-Big Tech” drum in his weekly constituent letters, but trying to seem moderate and touting bipartisan bills with Democrats. But when he hits up his presumably unhinged donor network, he amps up the crazy, and somehow neglects to mention working with Democrats at all.

Today (Sunday) is Colorado Day. Which is <1/50 of a national holiday.
Eight years ago this morning we had the fortune of gathering for a very special Colorado Day. The opportunity to not only fly the hemp flag for the first time over a state capitol, but to celebrate a young man's journey one-year anniversary of being 'seizure free'; a life made possible thanks to a hemp plant, a mother with a heart and the drive the size of Pikes Peak, a group of brothers committed to the industry and a state with the gumption to be the first legal state in America.
All that, and a (then) Congressman, Jared Polis, who believed in our industry enough to take the fight to the House floor just over one month prior, setting the course for a national pilot program.
This young man has been an inspiration to so many. Watching him jump the steps at the capitol that morning, smiling, interacting was a real blessing. It was a moment when just one of the many benefits of the plant went from intangible to tangible.

What the effin’ heck is this annoying “google snippet preview” icon (purple circle with a white symbol that looks like an overhead view of Starship Enterprise flying towards 2 o’clock) that appeared on this site yesterday, without any notification or announcement (… WTFF?), and now follows me around constantly when I’m signed in (stays in the lower left hand of my screen everywhere I go)?
And, more importantly, how the hell do I disable it!!? — Completely! Permanently!

The Google Snippet preview is a tool that properly should only be used when writing a diary. It allows the writer to specify how the diary will show up in Google Search results.
It has to be a mistake to allow that icon to follow every Pols reader or commenter, not just diary writers. It can’t be disabled in one’s Pols profile- I checked.
My guess is it’s yet another tool to allow Google to track what we read and write, and so to customize the ads that we see. For example, when I comment about right-wing violence or white supremacy, suddenly my ad sidebar is filled with camo clothes, menacing neck gaiters, and inquiries about whether I think that Trump is President. If I type something about being female, I get girly clothes and makeup ads.
It appears to allow me to edit the Google preview for any post I comment on- for example, I just edited the Weekend Open Thread Google Snippet to vjkfchjcjkgv and then back to
