1. Regarding the last line of this article: "And we' re as proud of Simone Biles as we are weary of dumbass Texas Republicans." 

   The last two words should be edited to — "Texans".

      1. It is true, V. The Lone Star State has produced some really great folks. Why,  the musician bonanza alone is worth their statehood.

         But I certainly understand Blackies' comment. It seems something happens to them when they leave Texas. Texans who don't own ski boots or an ATV and a rifle can be pretty nice. I think the elevation adversely affects them when they get here.

         I had the advantage of living in Tejas on and off (my Mom moved there in the 70s.)

         When you are in Texas, they are pretty normal…they just believe with all their heart that the greatest benefit available to a human being is to have been born in Texas.

         1. I grew up in New Mexico, and can still remember the childish glee of learning that one of the Territorial Governors expressed an opinion of Texas …. one I liked so much, I memorized it and know it to this very day…

            "Poor New Mexico.  So far from Heaven, so close to Texas."

      2. Willie Nelson concert to cap voting rights march, rally at Capitol in downtown Austin

         Music legend Willie Nelson will perform Saturday morning at a voting rights rally at the Capitol, lending his name once again to the side opposing Republican efforts to pass legislation affecting the way Texas conducts voting and elections.

         Nelson's concert will help cap a four-day voting rights march that began Wednesday morning with a Georgetown-to-Round Rock leg, then picked up again Thursday morning with about a 10-mile walk into North Austin that was joined by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the political activist and former Democratic presidential candidate.

         Patterned after the Selma-to-Birmingham trek in Alabama that helped define the civil rights movement in 1965, the march will end at the Capitol for a Saturday rally scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

2. Ken Paxton sets an extremely low bar for professional and personal behavior. His Deputy just proved that no matter how low you think the bar is, someone can always slither under it.

   1. Wondering if the deputy is a relatively long-term employee, or if he is one of the ones replacing the seven high level employees who were whistleblowers last fall.

      all seven employees who brought forward the allegations have either resigned, been placed on leave or been fired.

      The senior staff members have accused Paxton of serious crimes, such as bribery and abuse of office, related to his relationship with real estate developer and investor Nate Paul. The seven staff members reported Paxton's actions to law enforcement after they said he used his office to step in with Paul's legal affairs.

      1. He is an absolute, complete, political hack. He graduated from law school in 2017, where he was the president of the Federalist Society. He clerked for a Texas Supreme Court Justice (also Federalist Society). He was recently promoted to Deputy Attorney General of Legal Strategy.  Was probably on Trump's shortlist for the federal bench, if not the Supreme Court.
