  1. Placeholder because I don’t want to  see davebarnes’ first random thought all weekend.
Watching the Olympics parade of nations, I’m struck by how many countries I’ve never heard of.
Nauru. Djibouti. Kiribati. Tuvalu. And there is a refugee Olympic team.

    1. The most fun opportunity around these parts today is the “Gym and Pew-pew show” . It starts about 5 pm at the Two Rivers Convention Center.

      Should be a hoot!

        1. Partly, the reason I won't be attending is just that. There isn't enough Milk of Magnesia or Pepto Bismol in the world to quell that revulsion…plus, I don't actually live there.  I would probably walk across the street to yell at and defame those two examples of Trumpvermin, but they aren't worth driving to see.

I think my son and granddaughter will likely attend. He lives only blocks away. I hope a big crowd shows up. It could turn into quite a melee.

          1. There was nothing in this morning's Sentinel about Gym and Salmonella Sue and I didn't see anything all week (although I admit I don't watch the local news) so I don't know how things will turn out at  Two Rivers. Are they keeping it quiet on purpose?

    2. kwtree — I knew 3 of the 4 nations because a workmate went to Nauru for a short-term Peace Corps volunteer tour, and stopped in Fiji to do something at the US Embassy “on the way.” One embassy, 4 countries,

All I knew about Djibouti was it was a nation somewhere in Africa, and subject to cultural humor based on KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty.” [apologies to all those who get an earworm from that reference.]

      1. Frank Zappa's "Sheik Yerbouti" went there. According to Wikipedia: "Zappa appears on the cover in character in Arab headdress, and the name, meant to resemble an Arabic transcription (Djibouti is an Arabic-speaking republic in Africa)" is pronounced like KC's Shake Your Booty.

        1. Djibouti is the former French Somaliland and later used the name Territory of the Afars & Issas before independence from France.

The French Foreign Legion maintains a presence. The US, China, Japan, and Italy also have bases there.

    1. Hadn't heard of Itchy-O, so went and checked them out.  Video on line of them performing at Meow Wolf makes it look like the fever dream of the wish of my high school band's drum section.

      1. In a way, they kind of remind me of the Dixie Dregs, format wise. The Dregs perform much more traditional riffs and melodies with much more traditional instruments. They perform fairly short instrumentals with no vocals. I think they occasionally display a vocal track…but not often.

          1. I dunno’.  I’ve never met him — the one time we had arranged to meet for drinks, I went and he stood me up, something about “just remember[ing]” he needed to wax his surfboard that day? [. . . You still owe me, sucka’!].

If he has, I wish him well [. . . but, you still owe me!] — we should all be so lucky as to get free of our little cages someday.

            1. Same. He said he was going to meet us at the last Pols meetup, and then had an unlikely story about a friend with a dog just happening to show up at the same venue, so he chose the friend with the dog. OK. . . .

I do hope he is well and will grace us with another MADCO beat poetry post.

              1. I commented about six months ago that Madco was rarely posting.  He replied to the effect that he was developing other interests. As far as I know, he is alive and well.

  2. The Frito Lay strike is over!  The Union won a 4 pct wage hike over 2 years and a guarantee of at least one day off a week.

Back to scarfing!  Bring on the Ruffles!

    Solidarity forever (burp.)

  3. Gettr: where lame white men go to talk tough about strong women (and get hacked).

1: MyQevin™ doesn’t have the testicles to post this on Twitter (because Nancy has them in her purse).

2: I don’t think Leader means what you think it means when it’s used to describe MyQevin™

  4. Parasol Patrol pwned Westboro Baptist Church again in Arvada today.

WBC threatened to picket three Arvada churches which they thought were too LGBTQ – friendly.

As usual, they were blocked by more tolerant community members, including the Parasol Patrol, which follows the WBC around and blocks the public’s view of their anti-gay vitriol.

If you like that, may I recommend Westword’s Top 5 times Fred Phelps and WBC got owned.
