Today (Saturday) is International Firgun Day
I had to go look it up … and appreciate the reference. Fortunately, there are a few people around me who are masters of expressing firgun … makes for a very pleasant group of friends.
Lauren Boebert is one of the 4 COVID FRIENDS in a short animated cartoon found on Digby's Hullabaloo.
The Republican Accountability Project puts her in lofty company: Tucker Carlson, Madison Crawford, MT Greene, and Boebert. 165+ thousand views on Twitter since 3:30 pm yesterday so far.

AOC's Cuba tweet draws fiery response from Florida Dem – POLITICO
I guess those people don’t know that there was an executive order on President Kennedy’s desk, that he didn’t get a chance to sign, rescinding the stupid embargo.
Folks always want to simplify. In fact both can be true – the embargo is a disaster for the Cuban people, and the ruling authoritarian regime is also a disaster. If we went back to the pathway that Obama began with Cuba (too late in his administration), we could improve the lives of the people (who shouldn't have to literally pay with their lives because of Cuban AND US policy).
I visited Cuba a year and one-half ago. The island nation deserves so much more from their leaders and from the world. The culture is rich with art, music, and many other talents, and the people are hugely industrious. Cuba has never had the opportunity to fulfill its potential. They came close through revolution but authoritarian governments are never the answer. Pay attention, Trumpidiots.
Wholly agree, realist. My youngest son and I spent ten days there under a travel visa through the Kansas Wheat Growers Assoc. The Cuban people are amazing; much of the practices of organic food production came from there (from sheer necessity). Beautiful city gardens. Incredible food. Reefs that are pristine, thanks to the fact they aren’t dumping the latest whiz bang Monsanto/Bayer/DuPont chemicals on their land so it can runoff into the sea. You’re right, Obama and Papa Frank had the right idea – if our slave-era Electoral College hadn’t installed the loser of the 2016 election we might have fixed things by now.
Yes, both are true. The embargo was an economic disaster for the Cuban people, forcing many to prostitution as a way to put food on the table.
But Cuba created many of its own problems; their long anti-LGBT policies, which still have the force of law, are a prime example. In the late 1970s, when I ran Women in Transition House in Denver, a lesbian couple stayed in WIT House for some months. Zaida, a Cuban lesbian, had left her country rather than face being detained in the "gay camps", which were still a thing then.
I hope to visit a free Cuba some day. Meanwhile, Playing for Change's version of "Guantamera" offers a glimpse at this gorgeous and important culture.
Multiple U.S. administrations bear responsibility for the situation in Cuba. The former Castro, and now Canel, dictatorship might have fallen decades ago were it not for both parties wanting to curry political favor with the Cuban exile community in Florida. Thus, the continuing embargo and lack of economic engagement, except for Obama’s limited opening.
Agreed. Hard for our ongoing embargo to have the desired effect when most of the world ignores it. But it makes for good politics for the GOP in FL, the actual fate of the Cuban people be damned.
Wonderful.
Today (Sunday) is National Daiquiri Day
This is a really exciting development in Pueblo. I guess #PewPew was too busy grifting to attend the groundbreaking of the biggest deal to happen in Pueblo in some time?
Kudo’s to the Polis, Hickenlooper snd Ritter Administrations that have been laying this groundwork for ten years.
Colorado Democrats have a lot to be proud of today.
‘Pueblo is the steel city of the future’ as EVRAZ breaks ground on $500 million rail mill
Yes, this is good news, but others paid the price for the steel industry's past excesses…I think of all the kids in Pueblo who were exposed to toxins playing on the huge slag heaps, or who grew up with elevated blood lead, the folks who had their yards excavated and replaced or lost their neighborhoods when the Superfund site was declared, the people who died early from preventable respiratory diseases.
So yeah, more power to Pueblo. And thanks to all who (involuntarily) gave up their lives or health so that we could make steel smarter.
Agreed, all similar to the coal industry, the health issues of Globeville residents from the SunCorp refinery. Inner-city kids exposed to BTX from internal combustion engines and lead paint – pipes. Glyphosate. HFCS.
We have a lot of fixin’ to do.
Speaking of Two-gun Tootsie; did anyone else see Megan Schrader’s column in this morning’s Denver Post? She put up a list of people she thinks would serve CD3 better: Edward Dutton, Don Coram, Bob Rankin, Tim Foster, and Janet Rowland. I know CD3 can only be tilted so far left. But I’m curious what folks who live thereabouts think about her picks. https://www.denverpost.com/2021/07/16/lauren-boebert-anti-vaccine-tweets-colorado-covid-19/
I don’t know anything about Dutton. I believe Coram and Rankin to be not crazy but Repub through and through.
I simply don’t see Tim Foster wanting that seat. If he does, it is probably his for the taking. He has godlike qualities around these parts.
Janet Rowland?
Aaaaauuggghhhh!!!
😉
What Duke said.
I don't know Dutton and never heard of him before the Post's mention. Coram, Rankin and Foster would be good replacements, but not one of them is near crazy enough for today's GOP in Mesa County. To beat Boebert, it would have to be done in Mesa County no matter how redistricting ends up.
How Schrader could put Rowland into the company of Coram, Rankin and Foster is beyond me. She's no improvement over Pew Pew and I can't see her running against her new BFF.
Did Schrader talk to anybody with a clue about Mesa County politics?
I swear Duke and I have not discussed this. We posted separately. Great minds think alike.
All true…😁
Can I just say I appreciate your great minds even when they DON'T think alike?
😎👍
Now I remember why Rowland rang a bell! She helped Beauprez get his ass handed to him when he ran for governor against Ritter. Wow, am I glad that clicked into place. It was bugging me.
Rowland is Pew Pew with working brain parts and without the gun prop. She's scary.
She was the one who went off on a rant about same sex marriage leading to beastiality.
