What you can do to fight for progress this week (July 6)

In 2021 in Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis and the progressive majority in the Colorado General Assembly set out to keep the promises they made to voters in two successive previous elections. The result was historic progress on some of the most important issues facing our state. From confronting man-made climate change to reducing the cost of health care and prescription drugs, we showed the whole nation what it looks like when progressives articulate a clear vision and then take measurable steps toward achieving it.

The result is tangible progress that everyone in Colorado can see for themselves.

The voters of Colorado are thrilled with the results. New polling released this week from our partners at Global Strategy Group demonstrates clearly that Colorado voters are paying attention to what’s happening at the state legislature and strongly approve of this year’s historic session. In fact, despite endless political attacks from the far right, support for the progressive agenda and the leaders fighting for it has increased since the 2020 elections. Voters overwhelmingly approve of the job Gov. Polis is doing to crush the pandemic, and trust progressives to handle the issues most important to Coloradans.

Take a moment right now to read Issue 5 of the PNC/GSG Rocky Mountaineer, the latest research on the state of Colorado politics. Forward this message to your friends and colleagues, and while it’s important to not get complacent, take some pride in the accomplishments made by Colorado over the past few years.

The mapmakers want to hear from you! Colorado’s independent redistricting commissions are launching their tour of the state to learn more about the communities of interest that deserve a voice in Congress and at the state capitol in Denver. Throughout July and August, they’ll hold hearings in every part of the state, and it’s your chance to tell these commissions about what makes your community unique and cohesive. In many other states, the redistricting process is fraught with political conflict, but we’re trying to do it differently in Colorado this time. The result depends in part on your participation, so if you haven’t already please check out the schedule of upcoming commission hearings and make your plan to attend in person or virtually.

Thanks very much for everything you do. Here are just a few more great ways to get involved for the week of July 6:

Senators Hickenlooper & Bennet: Letter to Urgently Pass Democracy Reform Legislation

Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet have both signed on to S.1, the “For the People Act” to end voter suppression, end unfair gerrymandering, remove dark money from politics and provide other essential reforms to make our voting system truly represent the people. Both Senators are passionate supporters of the bill–but both stop short of stating they will push to remove all obstacles in its path, including the filibuster. Please sign this letter stating both our support and our sense of urgency.

League of Oil and Gas Impacted Coloradans: Financial Assurance Webinar Part 2

Join LOGIC for part 2 of our 3 part series of webinars leading up to the Financial Assurances rulemaking hearing at the COGCC. Part 1 covered oil and gas revenue. This part will start delving into the costs associated with plugging and abandoning the wells in Colorado, the shortfall in revenue to do this necessary work, and a beginning loom into the potential solutions. This is a potentially $8 BILLION problem in Colorado alone, and the State desperately needs to address this problem head on. Join us to learn more about the scope of this issue and what we can do about it!

When: Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30pm
