  1. Never seen the Carolina Blues video: Waaaay too much Popper, not enough Chan.

BT on the Fourth at Red Rocks is a great experience. Been attending it since 1995 or 96 — when the show was broadcast on the radio. The band will be playing, and the fireworks will start across the city, drawing random loud cheers from the top rows. If you’re really lucky, Bandimere will have its own display right over the ridge.

    Happy Fourth, all.

  2. Here’s hoping that on Day 143 of broken promises from Pols, the answers to Mailbag No. 2 get a little Independence Day.

This is one of my favorite songs, but I’m not sure who does it better — songwriter Dave Alvin or his buddies in X.

    “Whatever happened darling, I apolgize.”

    1. My sources tell me that Governor Hickenlooper stopped in at the Lion’s Lair after the 5/26 set by John Doe (of X, one of his favorite bands), in order to say hello to Doe.

  3. (. . . and may I add here also, by extension, its inhabitants . . . )

It was not given to you by your parents,

It was loaned to you by your children.

We do not inherit the Earth from our

Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children

If the white man wants to live in peace with the Indian, he can live in peace….Treat all men alike. Give them all the same law. Give them all an even chance to live and grow.  All men were made by the same Great Spirit Chief.  They are all brothers.  The Earth is the mother of all people, and all people should have equal rights upon it….Let me be a free man, free to travel, free to stop, free to work, free to trade….free to choose my own teachers, free to follow the religion of my fathers, free to think and talk and act for myself, and I will obey every law, or submit to the penalty.

Heinmot Tooyalaket “Chief Joseph” Nez Perce
