2. In an announcement with political overtones, The Colorado Sun's article on COVID-19 infections has at least two  "duh … " statements.

   Dr. JP Valin, chief clinical officer at SCL Health, told Colorado Public Radio. “Ninety-five percent of the patients who have been hospitalized since February are unvaccinated.” …

   Doctors in hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in the state can’t recall a single death of a vaccinated person.

   Still, health officials are struggling to convince some groups to get the vaccine, particularly younger people and minorities.

   1. Mesa County is a vaccine disgrace. The local rag, aka the Daily Sentinel is either more incompetent than usual or the publisher is practicing see no evil.

      Front page today: the local ice arena has new owners. An update on a cops vs. city dispute over pension funds. A fluff piece about local farmers markets.

      Buried in the briefs at the bottom of page three is this item:

      “In Mesa County 100% of Intensive Care Unit beds are full, 100% of ventilators are in use and 99.1% of all hospital beds are full. Those numbers were reported Thursday evening on the Mesa County Public Health Department data dashboard for COVID-19, which tracks hospital capacity, among other stats. Additionally, Mesa County now has 31 residents hospitalized with COVID-19 and two more deaths were reported Thursday, bringing the total to 232. Also on Thursday the county reported 89 new COVID-19 cases and a two-week case count of 734.''

      WTF, Sentinel! If that “brief'' isn't your above-the-fold story on Page 1, what would it take?

      Several weeks since our GOP commissioners proclaimed their “freedom to choose'' policy on virus protections such as distancing and masks, along with getting, or not getting, vaccines, the vaccination rate is 37 percent. A teenage girl died of COVID last week.

      Meanwhile, the National Junior College World Series wraps up its week-long run tonight or tomorrow night with 10,000-plus fans at the ballpark amid no restrictions. Country Jam, which draws 25,000 or more fans daily in four-day run, starts later this month in western Mesa County.

      As for me, I'm staying home until next week when I join my husband camping on the Grand Mesa, safely vaccinated and distanced.

3. The Redistricting Commissions (both congressional and legislative) are now taking public comments as the staff is preparing their initial maps. If you wish to comment see here: Commission website
