GarCo underscores luv of natgas

  • by: westslope smitty

Judy Jordan, Garfield County Oil & Gas Liaison, was shown the door today by the three-R’s of the County Commission.

Ms. Jordan was a break from the county’s usual industry hacks; she actually recognized fossil fuel development’s impacts and encouraged commonsense measures to mitigate damage to public health, county infrastructure and environmental integrity.

Little surprise, since GarCo’s John Martin, Mike Samson and Tom Jankovsky have time-and-again demonstrated their allegiance to the oil/gas industry.  Other GarCo employees have been on informal “notice” since Tresi Houpt lost her re-election in Nov 2010…

  1. I can’t say enough nice things about Judy. She has always demonstrated enormous courage in working to do what was right for Garfield counties’ people and its’ environment. Fairness was the balance point that she seemed to steer toward.

With Judy gone, the “Benzene Boys” will have the run of the court house in “Gasfield county” once again.

    tragic.

  2. a Garco resident claims that Judy has not been fired…only suspended without pay for a week . Does anyone have an update?

Stay tuned …this could get interesting.

      1. but, to segue –

Other GarCo employees have been on informal “notice” since Tresi Houpt lost her re-election in Nov 2010

Do you know what the hell that means? I was just going to let that claim go unsubstantiated, but, I couldn’t.

Are they on notice of being fired?

Are they on notice that their hair is too long?

Have they been notified that Tresi lost her election?

Have they been notified that those damn, socialist, commie, pinko, regulatory viewpoints won’t be toller’ated no more?

Or, are they just…on notice, you know, informally (wink, wink)?

          1. However, I’m familiar with their regulations, their budget and the impacts of the oil and gas industry in the county. Also familiar with the politics of the county.

My question was, what does putting people on informal notice mean? It is a vague statement, tacked on at the very end of a diary, that reflects an opinion not backed up by anything.

            Thanks for answering it.

              1. I’m slow.

Do you mean that by firing Judy Jordan the county has signaled to other employees that the industry point of view takes priority under the threat of dismissal?

I’m not by any means an expert on employment law, but being an at-will state, the county has the ability to dismiss whom they please. Should they = different question.

It sounds like the industry and the citizens were disappointed that Judy was let go. The telling point will be who replaces her, assuming her appeals don’t go through.

  3. a suspension is now, in fact, a firing. I got an e-mail from Judy stating she had received the termination letter.

    and for Car 31:

If you do not live in one of Colorados’ impacted communities it will be difficult for you to understand the pervasive influence of the “Oily Boys”.

Anyone who questions what they do or challenges them in any way becomes a target. You will be shunned by the business community..insulted and called “terrorist”, “anti-American”, and a host of even more colorful epithets.

You will be vilified by people who have never met you, uninvited to social events…and if you happen to be a county employee and stand up to them like Judy did…you will be fired.

Everyone in Colorado (or anywhere else, for that matter) should spend some time in Garfield, LaPlata, Rio Blanco, or one of many counties being impacted by drilling for natural gas. Take a stand against the industries’ heavy-handed operating policies. See how you are treated.

When Tresi Houpt lost her commissioner seat in the “Red Tide”, everyone who had been working to implement a measure of equity to life in the gaspatch recognized that Garfield county was once again under the complete control of the Texans, Okies, and Canadians who came here to steal our natural resources.

Since they don’t pay the severance taxes they are supposed to, and their operations are subsidized by taxpayers…it amounts to theft, IMHO.

Judy…you are a hero to many people in your community and elsewhere. Thanks for tolerating all the abuse you have taken on our behalf. Good luck.
