  1. Another day, another disgruntled Trumpican, one who lives in a fantasy world. He doesn't need a trip to Disney to grieve a loss of the good ol' white days.  All he needs is a mirror.

Disney World superfan says company’s 'woke' decisions ruining guest experience

VanBoskerck, a Christian Republican from North Las Vegas, Nev., cited the new policies that he said permit cast members to display tattoos, wear inclusive uniforms and display inclusive haircuts. He also said Disney was taking a "woke scalpel" to areas of the park like the Jungle Cruise.

The park got rid of Trader Sam, the "head" salesman of the jungle, from the attraction's final scene amid cultural sensitivity changes, according to WDW News Today, which reports on Disney park news.

"The next time I ride Jungle Cruise I will not be thinking about the gloriously entertaining puns of the skippers, I will be thinking about Disney’s political agenda," VanBoskerck wrote.

The opinion piece also notes changes to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and statements from the company that it must change Splash Mountain because of its association "Song of the South," a 1946 film that some say depicts negative cultural stereotypes.

    1. Victimhood seems to be taking over the Trumplican© Party as the status du jour. Of course, if I were taking it in the chops with increasing frequency like the Orange Horde is experiencing, I might feel like a victim, too.

      😁

    2. All theme and amusement parks have histories of sexism and racism. They all exploit their workers, too. They mirror the laws  and cultural mores of their times and places.
One of  my earliest summer jobs was at the old Elitch Gardens, rolling hot dogs and cotton candy for the munificent sum of $2.50 an hour. Girls could only  work concessions. Boys operated the rides. It was company policy. People regularly broke bones at the Fun House. No rides were handicapped-accessible. The KkK rode the ferris wheel in robes in an intimidating  display in Cañon City in 1926.

In terms of content and imagined journeys for viewers and riders, Elitch’s and Disney all have reflected their societies. The crows in “Dumbo” were racially stereotyped. Walt Disney himself was an unapologetic bigot. The “Song of the South” on the Jungle ride celebrated a society built on forced labor.  Girls were princesses to be rescued, never heroes. Heroes were white males.  Gay folk were invisible.

Still, these places also reflect the best hopes and aspirations of their societies, too. I remember the “It’s a small world” ride, the earworm  song and multicultural singing robots in the old Disney World. ( OK, they were  kinda creepy, too). But Van BosKerck would probably call that a display of “Woke Globalism” today.
The World’s Fair celebrated globalism, envisioned urban planning and a more egalitarian society. Van BosKerck would have hated it.

And the point of visiting a theme park is to have fun, spend time with your friends and loved ones, spend money, eat junk food, get sick and terrified and thrilled on rides, have near-death experiences on roller coasters, and incidentally, reflect on one’s world and imagine a better one.

  2. Just one day into her race for California Gov., Caitlin Jenner has won the political imbecile of the year award.

She fired off a Trumpian tweet accusing Gov. Gavin Newsome of appointing District Attorneys who are soft on crime.

Ahh, DAs in California, like Colorado, are directly elected by voters.

    1. Sadly, the stoopid runs through this extended family.  I remember Kim Kardashian publicly contemplating running for mayor of Glendale, until she found out Glendale…doesn't have a mayor.

  3. Geeks and Nerds of the Intertubes, please help. Dave T8, looking at you. And Psuedonymous, if you're around still.

Just before Trump left office, huge amounts of  ip addresses suddenly became available. They are owned by the Pentagon, but registered to an obscure Florida company. Washington Post had the story.

What I want to know: Is this an ominous predictor of takeover by Russian hackers? Is it bizniz as usual on the Internet? Good guys or bad guys or neither?

Internet language makes my eyes glaze over. The same thing happened with Erik M's story about the latest GOP conspiracy theories. When he talked about "smoothing it with a polynomial", the article was over for me. The difference is, I know they're lying because of the context: Grand Junction, GOP, Sheronna Bishop, etc. I think even Boebert mentioned the "algorithms" as a reason why Biden didn't win the election.  So I won't even try to understand that story because I already know they're lying.

But help me out with the suddenly available Pentagon IP addresses.
