Unlike Boyles, right-wing Christian radio host Enyart apologizes for being a birther

  • by: Jason Salzman

KHOW talk show host Peter Boyles, you recall, didn’t flinch when Obama released his birth certificate last month, saying he had no intention of backing away from the story.

But Bob Enyart, who hosts “Bob Enyart Live,” weekdays on Colorado “Colorado’s Christian Station,” KLTT 670 AM, gave up on birtherism after the Presidential announcement.

Enyart disagreed with those who said President Obama’s birth certificate was not valid, and he apologized to his audience for his “erroneous thinking.”

Conspiracy theorists should look to Enyart for guidance here. He saw evidence and changed course. How do you like that?

Then, in an admirable piece of self-reflection,  he looked deeper, and he reasons that the entire birther discussion was a distraction from the real issues.

I can’t agree with what he sees as the real issues, but he’s entitled to his view, which is, in part:

In the big picture, I regret that I did not stay more focused on the eternal moral issues, which of course include the fundamental issues of government that God will bring up on Judgment Day….

…[S]ince I cannot believe that God is going to care, neither about where Obama was born or any other leader who has advocated the killing of the innocent, therefore I am going to get beyond this distraction and focus more on what matters eternally!

I think this means we won’t be hearing Enyart talk about birtherism anymore. But his Personhood-Amendment crusade? It doesn’t look like its going away, does it?

  1. Boyles has said for quite a while he believes Obama was born in Hawaii, but he says it almost as an aside. Despite his belief, he does nothing to challenge birthers who call his show and will always pivot to more sinister conspiracies like Obama’s alleged Connecticut SSN, lack of release of college records and other perceived inconsistencies about his early biography. Boyles now goes as far to say that Obama’s “Dreams of My Father”, with the specific exception of Obama’s Hawaiian birth, is all fabrication.

The release of Obama’s birth certificate doesn’t really change how Boyles runs his show. He can now parade so-called computer experts who argue the PDF file released to the media is a forgery. Boyles’ shtick is basically “Gee wiz, I’m the most computer illiterate guy in world, but it sure sounds like you know what you’re talking about.” Thus, another conspiracy can be added to the list without Boyles technically agreeing with it.

Boyles may be many things but he is not stupid. He must have recognized a long time ago the shear improbability of Obama being born anywhere other than Hawaii, and he has to know that the released birth certificate is genuine. But he also knows what a potent issue birtherism and the broader effort to delegitimize the Obama presidency is to his radio show. Thus, he won’t let his personal beliefs get in the way of pimping to his audience a most conspiratorial and cynical form or talk radio.

No “erroneous thinking” when it comes to Peter Boyles and birthers. He knows exactly what he is doing.

  2. .

is that I was told that from as far back as I can remember.

Next strongest: a newspaper account from 1881 or whenever reporting my birth.

I have a “birth certificate” stamped with my tiny footprint.  Looks authentic.  But nowadays, something like that could be forged for less than $5,000.

    ……………

I don’t understand how the document recently released and referred to as a “birth certificate” of Obama’s holds any sway.

The printing does not square with the green watermark.

It was printed the week before it was released.

It proves nothing other than the fact that the government of Hawai’i is in the hands of Obama supporters.  But so what ?

There are newspaper reports from 1961 announcing his birth.

There’s no evidence he was born in Kenya, just raw speculation.

If Occam is consulted, there is no controversy left to wonder about.

    ………. ………….

but here’s the bottom line: It was up to Hillary, and then up to McCain, to challenge his bona fides, before we ever even got close to election day.

Failing to demur, for whatever reason, they decided this issue for us.  Move on.  Next ?
