According to a new poll from Zogby, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain (yes, that Herman Cain) has emerged as one of the top two choices for the Republican nominee for President.
Seriously. Here’s the odd news:
Herman Cain trails only Chris Christie as the top choice among Republican primary voters in the race for the 2012 Presidential nomination. Mitt Romney ranks fourth, but voters see him as the most likely nominee by a wide margin over the rest of a 13-person field.
One-half of GOP voters say they would never vote for Donald Trump, and more than 30% say they would never vote for Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul.
These results are from an IBOPE Zogby interactive poll of 1,377 Republican primary voters conducted from May 6-9.
This can’t be written off as a complete outlier, either, because the high negatives for Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and friends is consistent with other polls of late.
We’ve said before that it’s going to be extremely tough for Republicans to defeat President Obama in 2012, but if the GOP ends up with Herman freakin’ Cain as their nominee, we might as well just skip the election and jump straight to Obama’s second term.

only surpassed by his craptacular pizza. We should be so lucky.
that something as “Italian” as pizza was associated by his company’s name with organized crime.
In 1994.
How much are you going to laugh when pizza costs $20/slice because all the pizza joints have to shut down? Huh? That is such basic econ I’m surprised that even you libs can’t figure it out. When there are one tenth the pizza joints, pizza will cost ten times as much. Duh!
Healthcare mandates are going to kill small business in this country. Next thing you know, all our pizza will come frozen from Canada, eh?
Canadian Bacon on our pizza?
on foreign and exotic Hawaiian pizza.
had to have Spam™ on it.
By the way, pepperoni is as Italian as Godfather Pizza’s Herman Cain, apparently:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02…
But, since pizza as we know it didn’t exist before tomatoes were brought back from South America, I refuse to allow pepperoni’s upstart origins in the U.S. to lessen my experience.
It’ll still be a Repub and Americans are starting to gag at even the thought of those things.
Your choice: a black man for POTUS.
Question: Have we seen Herman Cain’s long form birth certificate?
Question: Would Southern Republicans’ heads explode?
Question: Can an old fart born in 1945 get elected?
Question: Will this–“Some interpreters take this to mean that Cain was literally the son of the serpent in the Garden of Eden.”–cause problems with Evangelicals?
Question: Will this–“Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City”– cause problems with the Tea Party nut jobs?
Question: How can Newt Gringich support someone who has only been married once?
Is this an actual poll or one of Zogby’s infamous “interactive” polls which are only slightly more predictive that reading chicken entrails?
But if you dig polls, this one does seem to line up with others out there on everybody else. FWIW, Cain did “win” the GOP debate. Since no one else was there, I doubt that’s a huge indicator, but of the everybody-else-set he suddenly stands out.
So sudden positives for Cain at the small fish side of the pond and negative trends near the big fish may very equal a poll that looks like this.
he was the barely least worst among 5 guaranteed losers (one w/ singular highest Google results tied to lubed fecal matter).
It was Faux “news” reporting their straw poll (show of hands) results from select debate watchers. It’s all so wrong on so many levels to be cited as remotely relevant.
Ron Paul made the most sense and gained a little money bomb from his performance. Paul’s retort to Wallace’s question on the good Dr.’s legalized drugs stance was golden.
Thanks for reiterating my point about the debate and following up with a slightly incorrect point.
I didn’t even see the Fox poll. I gathered he won from every other news source and a bunch of watch parties. I didn’t watch the debate.
And since we’re talking primary, why wouldn’t you think Fox news viewers had any connection with the rest of the GOP? I’ll wait for that explanation. I bet it’s fascinating!
Do you have any arguments about my point, or are you just complaining that Fox exists and has stupid debates? I agree, but it’s kind of obnoxious to put it here. Start a thread?
the GOP is going to take Condaleeza Rice out of mothballs and run her in 2012.
There’s exactly one thing I like about Ms. Rice: She served when the President of the United States requested it, then immediately and gratefully returned to her job in education, and has shown little interest in politics since.
Vote for Cain, he’s Abel!
who could give you a button or piece of lit and call it the mark of Cain.
constipated man, his name was Cain – he wasn’t Abel…
You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to be able to say that. 🙂
and that accusations of tea party racism are well supported.
http://www.oliverwillis.com/20…
The problem with Cain is not that he’s black. It’s that he’s a fucking idiot.
I NEVER wanted to have.
Thank you for vindicating everyone the left has called racist.
But we’ve come to expect that from you. Seeing you try to be witty is like watching a penguin try to fly.
Where, oh where is David Chestnut? Now, he could be witty.
