Today Bill Ritter’s gubernatorial campaign launched its first radio ad, promoting Bill’s story and accomplishments. The Ritter camp followed their first media buy with a press release, contrasting the positive content featured in Ritter’s ad with the negative components of Bob Beauprez’s initial radio purchase. The announcement presented an opportunity for Bob’s camp to take the higher ground by responding to the ad with policy rather than rhetoric. Instead, the Beauprez “newsroom” responded with the predictable.
As expected John Marshall, Beauprez’s campaign manager, affirmed the Ritter campaign’s comments by immediately turning negative. He attacked not only the content of the ad, but also the source of its funding. Marshall labeled the ad as an attempt to “rewrite history,” and the same article on the Beauprez website claimed it to be “misleading.” Of course, Beauprez and Marshall make no mention of their own attempts to discredit Ritter through ads that grossly misrepresent the truth. How can Bob still wonder why Holtzman’s “Both-Ways” label has been so popular?
Beauprez also went after the integrity of those funding the ad, attacking both labor union donor committees and treasurer Mike Feeley. Beauprezforgovernor.com called for Ritter to refund the labor union contributions, and in today’s Denver Post Marshall asserted that Ritter should publicly fire Feeley. However, these attacks on the rectitude of those supporting Bill’s campaign are almost laughable coming from Beauprez, which has received substantial contributions from both Tom Delay and Randy Cunningham.
Is the Beauprez camp so desperate that they must resort to such hypocritical allegations?

In a word…YES.
