AP reports via the U.K. Daily Mail on debate in the U.S. House over the Equality Act, legislation that would establish discrimination protections for all Americans regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identification–a bill that would update federal law to be consistent with Colorado’s own robust anti-LGBTQ discrimination laws on the books for years:

The Democratic-led House is poised to pass a bill that would enshrine LGBTQ protections in the nation’s labor and civil rights laws, a top priority of President Joe Biden, though the legislation faces an uphill battle in the Senate.

The Equality Act amends existing civil rights law to explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identification as protected characteristics.

While this legislation is expected to clear the narrowly Democratic House, the “Q-some Twosome” freshmen Republicans in Congress, Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Lauren Boebert of Colorado, are doing everything they can to fill the debate over protections that are settled law in Colorado with wildly inflammatory misinformation about transgender people in particular:

Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican who’s in the past peddled the QAnon conspiracy theory, said at the morning press conference that allowing trans women to play sports with cisgender women would lead to lost opportunities and even injuries for the latter.

‘Is Kamala Harris going to apologize to the girl who would lose her athletic scholarship to the boy who outplays her? Will Joe Biden tell the parents who gets her skull crushed, how fair that is? Will Nancy Pelosi please explain to our daughters why boys pretending to be girls are leering at them in the girls’ locker room?’ Boebert said.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who also appeared at the press conference, has spent the past day in a symbolic fight with her Congressional neighbor, Rep. Marie Newman, who has a trans daughter.

In a floor speech yesterday, Rep. Boebert warned ominously of girls in locker rooms being accosted by “confused men trying to catch a peek.”

First of all, the reference in this speech to an incident of domestic violence, the details of which we do not know, is hypocritical in the extreme after both Boebert and her husband faced mutual domestic violence charges as documented by the New York Post back in January. It would take more audacity than we possess to go there with that kind of hypocrisy on our own conscience (assuming, of course, the existence of one).

The more important point here, though we’re not specifically aware of Lauren Boebert having run for office on a platform of gutterball transphobia, is that this kind of over-the-top bombast appears to characterize Boebert’s approach to every single issue. There’s no having a civil dialogue about LGBTQ discrimination with Boebert, it’s always going to devolve into a contrarian shouting match defined by the most lurid terms Boebert can reach for. Just like there’s no rational discussion possible from Boebert about climate change. Or tax policy. Or health care. Or guns. Or…well, you know, anything.

If you’ve ever known someone like this, you know how exhausting it can be to deal with.

Now imagine serving in Congress with that person.

    1. What a maroon. This issue is already settled law in Colorado, one of 22 states with a state non-discrimination law and a trans-inclusive policy for high school student-athletes. 

      Who’s going to tell her that you can raise boys to be men and also raise them to be tolerant?

She is becoming the new Donald Trump.  We cannot keep her in the news 24/7.  I am begging that we stop speaking about her, writing about her, or caring about her.  This type of press is worth billions to people like this. Imagine if we never obsessed over Trump on every TV station, every cable station, and every newspaper for five years, perhaps, just perhaps, he would never have been so powerful.  Let's not make this uneducated train wreck of a human important on any level.

    Transgendered people are people and they are here.  Gay people are here, We all know this… no need to have the discussion with people such as Boebert.

    1. With you 100% WLJ, except that this stuff is manufactured for circulation on the dark web. Her based is going to see it, we might as well at least know about it.

      That said, the quality of my reading experience on Pols each day is certainly diminished by the depth of coverage devoted to Q-bert. I'd settle for a weekly brief on her inanity. I don't need it in my feed every day.

  4. I think Rep. Titone hit it out of the park.  The only part of her statement I take issue with is referring to Q-bert as a "leader" when she's just an empty vessel parroting right wing talking points mindlessly.

  5. Exhausting is just the word for it. One has to wonder from looking at her Twitter feed how she keeps herself so amped up and angry about everything from dawn to dusk. She’s an endless font of energy, all directed toward spouting childish insults, lazy “jokes,” and hateful disinformation. She’s not actually a politician at all: she’s just someone who loves to post tired slogans and lazy lies online. Her shtick wouldn’t be any different if she wasn’t in Congress and was just sitting at home all day poisoning her already damaged brain on Facebook.

    Her goal is to wear everyone down so we don’t bother calling her out anymore. And honestly, maybe we would be better off just ignoring her, because what she really wants, what she feeds on, is attention.

      Herein lies the dilemma.  She wants attention, so we shouldn't give it to her and just ignore her.  However, she wants to wear everyone down so we don't call her out anymore. [Emphasis mine].  If we ignore her, she says more incendiary shit and doesn't get called out on it.  Do we ignore her, or call her on her shit and make it our mission to show what a waste of space she is?

      1. I’m of mixed mind about it too, as you can probably tell. I guess it’s a question of audience: It doesn’t do most of us individuals any good to yell at her on Twitter or whatever as thousands of people do every day… that just feeds her – maybe we leave the debunking to the press who can reveal her inanities and lies to the public at large.

        1. I agree that more press for Calamity 
          Jane (or “Pew Pew”, as Michael calls her) is not necessarily a good thing. But consider the nature of her behavior. Reporting is fine but opining has its risks and is of questionable value. Who you looking to convince, I reckon.

          That said, this is a political blog, and our reputation is fairly well anticipated by visitors. This is what we do, so I am not much concerned about covering her here.

At the end of the day, all of this Karen level grandstanding does absolutely nothing for the people of CD-3 and ensures they are at the end of the line for basically anything.  There will be no legislative achievements she can speak of, no constructive work done, nothing that makes CD-3 any better off in any form.

    There will be media coverage of all the dumb shit she says and her wailing against basically everything, but that's about it. Waste of a congressional seat.

  7. I sincerely hope none of those boys turns out to be gay. If that happens, I have little doubt that Boebert and her slimebucket husband would take the kid out back, make him dig his own grave, then beat him to death with the shovel.

    1. One more thing to consider in this perpetual debate on how much press she gets. 

      I don’t, personally, have any control over how much MSM or RWM attention Pew Pew gets. As I said elsewhere, I keep it here, and why not talk about the most interesting thing going on?

      Here”s why I think so. 

      I was thinking about Doug Lamborn. Something I, and apparently most everyone else, seldom do. Lamborn doesn’t seek out attention the way CJ does. And, everyone obliges him except for an occasional piece about what a nothingburger he is in the political world.

      Calamity Jane is different. She is on a mission and coverage of her on these pages, or not, is as irrelevant as an umbrella in a tsunami. Her insanity needs to be monitered, exposed, and given all the rope she needs to hang herself. It is jui jitsu.

      I am as sickened and alarmed by the reality that a person of such low ideals has reached such a position of power and influence. Her voice irritates me as much as the ridiculous bullshit emanating from mouth. Her finger-wagging strut may please her roughneck and gunny friends, but, I find her repulsive…especially when she opens her mouth.

       I truly believe she will self-destruct. Left unreported, her activities are dangerous. We have to watch closely and keep a light shining on her treachery. 

      ps…Not only is Bo Bo the Clown gathering government cheese as fast as she can, I think it is the cameras that inspire her. You don’t have to be big, fat, and orange to be a narcissist. Maybe she thinks there is an Emmy category for her performance.

  10. I remember texting a friend about how I feared the day when Boebert tried to carry out a mass shooting on the floor of the House. And that was weeks before her support for the insurrection, the metal detectors, and all the rest.
