Donovan Officially Announces Campaign Against Boebert

  • by: Colorado Pols

State Sen. Kerry Donovan (D-Vail) filed paperwork on Wednesday to become an official candidate for Congress in Colorado’s third congressional district, which is currently represented by freshman Rep. Lauren “Q*Bert” Boebert (R-ifle).

Today, Donovan made the news, uh, super-official with a video announcement that included a not-so-subtle jab at Q*Bert:

“Real toughness isn’t something you wear on your hip. It’s what you get done for people…

…I’m a rancher, an educator, and a state senator. And I’ve been able to get things done, like expanding rural broadband and cutting the cost of health care, because I’ll work with anyone, regardless of their party…

…At this extraordinary moment in our history, we need to work together to fix what’s been broken. The last thing we need are people in Congress who talk tough and stoke division and fear.”

  1. In addition to the usual policy debates and affiliation choices, will there be contests to help determine which candidate is TRULY a representative of Colorado?

I’m thinking it may need to be a pentathlon — any suggestions for events?

    • target shooting
    • hay bale stacking
    • cross-country horse ride
    •
    •
    1. Do you have any idea how offensive that comment is to people (like me) who live in CD3? None of those events are representative. It does explain why so many people who live in CD3 think that the front range is clueless about the west.

      1. You do have a point, . . .

. . . but, I can’t imagine that there are that many front-rangers much more clueless about CO-3, and its congressional concerns, than Boebert?  Q-bie kinda’ seems like proof enough that being clueless is not a considerable problem or barrier for many out west . . .

        . . . IOKIYACO3er?

        1. #PewPew should go all Joanie Ernst in her next ad, throw them little nuggets on a grill and feed the masses at her next town hall.

At the risk of alienating CK (not on purpose) all of the aforementioned activities are real things in the failed 51st-state plus a few additions:

          *Snipe hunting

          *Rattlesnake Roundups

*spotting a Prairie Chicken in a mating ritual

          *The prestigious annual watermelon slaughter

      2. She did not win Garfield county.

CD3 is home to many wildly intelligent and sophistcated people. But they are outnumbered.

Oh, yeah..we have more than our share of gunheads, but it is the influence of tradition and the Oily Boyz money that did as much as anything to get her elected.

      3. Ckonola:

Did you watch the Donovan announcement advertisement?  What is Donovan doing except for showing off a particular narrative of her living in CO-3?  What is the purpose of her comment about people having strength on "their hip"??

After living in Colorado for 29 years and being adjacent (NM and UT, with trips in for school competition and vacations) for more, I would agree with the Denver Post description of CO-3:

The district is red-leaning, and it covers nearly half of Colorado’s land mass, including western and southern Colorado, and 29 of the state’s 64 counties. It’s also diverse, with wealthy ski towns like Aspen, giant swaths of agricultural land and public lands, and middle-class cities like Grand Junction and Pueblo.

      4. hmmm….I don't think so…I am a solid Democrat who loves target shooting…I used to ride a lot until horses became too expensive to keep…I stacked hay once…never again…but shoveling coal, is a favorite during the Fourth of July festivities…So…yes, we are somewhat civilized around here…there are many on the Front Range who have no clue as to how we live, work and play on the West Slope…

    1. I’ll support Satan himself against two-gun Tootsie in a primary or general.  But center-right though I am, I’d go with Kerry in a Dem primary.

Lemme know when she opens a campaign fund.

    2. this guy is NOT whom we need…he is a grifter along the lines of Boebert…there is more about this guy that seems to be hidden than visible…but the stench of the republican party, wafts around him like the trump stench wafts around qbert…

Kerry Donovan HAS a record of good governing while serving in the State Senate…She is a KNOWN quantity, with experience, and she really is a very smart person….there is no question as to who would be better for CD3 than Kerry Donovan…

  2. This is a great ad. I think Kerry would be a great candidate for CO-3. I spend a lot of time there as my family has property there and I have several other friends and family members in CO-3. Remember it is not an overwhelmingly conservative district and may be less so after redistricting.

What I like about the ad is it actually touches on many issues that people care about in the district. Rural healthcare is a challenge so is rural broadband, farming/ranching issues and much more.

Qbert is going to keep piling on the scandals and the crazy so this is a real opportunity for someone with a solid record to come in and offer honest, sensible leadership that the western part of the state needs.
