Today is Curmudgeons Day.
Good morning to me and Bob.
Ken Buck is out of the GOP Senate primary! Who becomes the front-runner now? I think Darryl Glenn carries just the right amount of "look at me I'm like your friendly neighbor" but also "bro Q*Anon has some really good points" to win that primary. (Obviously Bennet is still the front-runner of the general election.)
How many people do you think have told Qbert she needs to run? Colorado Dems need to do all they can to help make her the face of the Colorado Republican Party.

They do have a former politician with past experience at the position available. He also assiduously kissed Trump's ass every chance he got. You can't ask for a better qualification for the Republican nomination then that.
Lyn Bartels has an excellent article in the former Colorado Statesman: The biggest lesson from the election? Americans need to learn civics
Great piece.
The state can start with a mandated semester-long class in civics for eight-graders and a second semester for high school seniors. Nobody graduates without both, and neither is to be watered down by inclusion into “social studies,'' whatever the hell that is from district to district.
It would be a start.
Perhaps also the G.E.D. curriculum??? . . .
I mean, ya’ never can tell . . .
Those would be good curricular modifications, Gertie – I’d also like to see American and World history cover the modern era – postWWII to the present. As is, history classes at all levels obsess over America’s first 200 years, and barely touch on the issues, movements, and people that actually shape our lives today.
Another path to getting widespread basic civics education among adults would be to expand citizenship options for immigrants- Biden’s proposed 8 year path and reinstatement of DACA protections are hopeful developments. The citizenship test is no joke- I’ve helped people to prepare for it, and it is rigorous. A “lite” version to get a taste for it is here.
While we’re dreaming, every new state or Federal legislator should be required to pass the same test. 🌝
You almost had me — right up until “Bartels” . . .
. . . but, still, probably good to hear that post-Williams that it might be possible to recover some small bits of lost cognitive function.
Poor educators, I guess someone’s gotta’ take on the societal burden of offsetting FOX-GOPer wingnutter messaging and mis-information. We obviously can’t count on their elected officials to change that, or start becoming responsible . . .
The narrative that lets Republicans look themselves in the mirror each day
Good article in the Post today about Hickenlooper being involved with 15 other senators to try and find some common ground. This is what he ran on so good to see him back it up with cooperative actions.
