  1. Putin is arresting children, as Russia erupts in street protests against jailing Navalny, Putin’s opponent.

My SPECULATION ( all caps just for you, Dio), is that Trump consulted often with Putin about how to become a dictator for life. He followed most of Putin’s advice, but couldn’t ever actually  “Lock him/her up!” So it stayed  a rallying cry. Had he been re-elected, I think we would have seen Trump’s opponents and journalists suffering mysterious falls from skyscrapers, and odd poisonings from unknown substances.

    1. ya. I think that it is safe to assume that the alone time that dump and putin had together was for the tutelage of one djt. But I also think that dump had an innate sense of how to (at least) get started on the road to insurrection. He had a ton of experience inside and outside the law in governmental manipulation and not all of his exposure was at the NYC level.

I blv that the push to autocracy mostly came from outside (Bannon played a role, for sure … Stone, Miller and Manafort too) and appealed to his narcissism to such a great degree that he could not resist.

Eventually he had other friends in high places (DOJ) coaching him and helping him.

There is more coming. Hopefully the article of impeachment can be expanded and/or amended as we approach the trial.

      1. I don't think FDFQ is as smart as Nixon. The influence of his lieutenants on Trump was even more profound than Haldeman, Erlichmann, and Mitchell had on R Milhouse Nixon.

Miller, Bannon, Navarro, Conway, Mulvaney, Kushner, et al…all enabled the Orange King for their own reasons. All need to face the music.

        1. The basic problem with electing almost any (successful or otherwise) CEO into a government job is that corporations are run pretty much like a dictatorship.  Rare is the corporate culture that promotes consensus or humility from its executives.

They are treated like coddled rock stars/athletes/royalty.  I’m happy Elon Musk and Steve Jobs are/were geniuses at what they have done.  If either had entertained thoughts of becoming president, it would have scared the bejesus out of me.

  2. a political site “Born to Run the Numbers” creates an integrated economic measure for Presidents.  “The idea is to demonstrate whether the country is better off economically now under Biden than it was when Trump left office.  The data are: the unemployment rate, the Dow-Jones Industrial Average, the Consumer Confidence Index, the price of gasoline, and the GDP.

The measure generally is reset at the beginning of each President.  Here’s their summary (with my emphasis):

using January 20, 2021 as the 0 baseline, the measure declined from 55 at the end of the Bill Clinton‘s presidency to 8 by the end of George W. Bush‘s presidency; improved under Barack Obama from 8 to 33; and declined under Donald Trump from 33 down to the 0 baseline.

Seems to be some sort of trend here.

    1. Yep, Dems get elected to shovel out the elephant poop every 4 to 8 years, get the economy back on track, then Repugs swear they’ll do better next time, get elected, and the cycle repeats.

P.J. O’Rourke is the Cassandra of our age: Republicans are the party that says government doesn’t work and then they get elected and prove it.

  3. Poor Jenna.  Fewer and fewer rubes are swallowing the #ProsperityGospel bs.

    #MoreBeatitudesLessLeviticus

      1. A fine Christian young lady sociopath so bad at her job that she got fired mercy was bestowed upon her by Ben “Kill ‘Em All and Let God Sort It Out” Kuck?

BTW, after a local Colorado paper revealed that Trump lead lawyer Jenna Ellis had gotten fired after just a few months as an assistant DA in Weld County, Colorado, I did a little digging around, and two people familiar with the circumstances of the firing told me Ellis was dismissed for forging a defendant’s name on a plea agreement.

This would normally get a lawyer permanently disbarred, plus quite possibly put the ex-Esquire in question in the hoosegow for a little stretch, but nothing like that happened to Ellis, because according to my informants her boss decided it would be wrong to so cruelly abort the nascent career a fine Christian young lady like Ellis, just because she made a little mistake.

        1. If only lawyers were disbarred for serious screw-ups, but in practice the only thing that'll get somebody tossed out of the burglars' union is stealing the clients' money. Don't do that, but everything else will be swept under the rug.

  4. Fight over the rules grinds the Senate to a halt, imperiling Biden’s legislative agenda

Schumer needs to model mcconnell's behavior and get the timing of his pleas for fairness straight.
mcconnell argues for fairness when he is in the minority.
schumer argues for fairness when he's in the majority.
schumer has such a permanent loser complex that he can't manage the ascent to power.

Get rid of schumer and start getting work done before manchin and hick switch parties.

  5. Initial impression of Biden administration is that they came in with specific goals and executed the first few days flawlessly even down to putting the VOA Trumper on administrative leave so he couldn't show up at the office.  Looks like the plan is to pay him through May so he can't sue then show him the door.  This kind of detail in planning and execution is mighty impressive after four years of burn it all down bumbling.  I am also pretty sure that this administration knows exactly who they are dealing with in McConnell.  They harbor no illusions that he will deal in good faith.  It's like all the mistakes and lessons they learned in 2009 are being used to chart a different and specific course.  Won't take two years to get COVID stimulus passed.
