Colorado "Stop The Steal" Protests Steadily Dwindling

Numbers insufficient for revolution at the Colorado Capitol yesterday via SkyFOX.

David Mullen of the Colorado Springs Gazette reports:

About 70 demonstrators gathered Saturday near the Colorado State Capitol to protest what they alleged was fraud in the presidential election.

Calling themselves the Colorado Election Integrity Project, the group waved “Trump 2020” banners and held up signs reading “Stop the Steal” and “Masks, Tyranny, Corruption + Vaccine = Death” and “Biden Stole America” signs…

“We’re just trying to say that we don’t believe we’ve had a free and fair election … but what we want to do is we want other people to be aware of that, and that’s the purpose of why we’re here today,” said Matt, one of the organizers for the demonstration. He declined to give his last name.

Although polls show that a solid majority of Republicans across the country have bought into the fictional narrative of a stolen election, there appears to be a gap between the certainty expressed by the Fox News Newsmax faithful that the election was stolen when asked by pollsters and the willingness to actually come out and protest to that effect. On the weekend after the election, several hundred “protesters” more interested in openly carrying guns than protesting in the right city gathered 90 miles south in Colorado Springs. Two weekends ago, a hundred or more showed up in Denver in support of the well-short-of-a “Million MAGA March” in Washington, D.C.

Yesterday in nice weather in Denver, Trump got “about 70”–definitely headed in the opposite direction of whatever “popular uprising” Donald Trump imagines is happening right now. The more bitter and threatening Trump becomes on Twitter over the unambiguous results of the election and his self-immolating baseless legal challenges to the democratic process, the fewer MAGA diehards turn out to protest the following Saturday. At least in Denver.

“Our long national nightmare” could still end in a bang or a whimper.

But on the ground and in the courtroom, it’s looking more like the latter every day. And, well, that’s good news.

  1. Multiple choice: Is "Masks, Tyranny, Corruption + Vaccine = Death" an example of:

    a) Common Core

    b) The "New Math" from decades ago

    c) An "algorithm"

    d) Euclidean geometry

      1. But Karen just told me Republicans can't do arithmetic. Probably true, since they believe that if you subtract from your income it goes up. At least that's been their tax policy since Reagan.

  2. On our regular "standing protest" intersection at Alameda and Wadsworth, a lone Trumper stood yesterday, waving about six giant flags. (Some were attached to poles or something- I don't know how she did it.)

So there was this short middle-aged woman, no mask, standing there waving all of these Trump flags, yelling incomprehensibly at the passing traffic, which wasn't honking or up-thumbsing in support. I actually felt kind of sorry for her.

    1. No protests in Wray (we did have a Trump parade the week before election) but apparently hope springs eternal with the MAGA crowd. This, from the bulletin board at our local grocery store today:

      1. I wonder when the sign was made.

Delaware certified votes on November 5. 4 more states certified on November 10, and two more on the 11th.  If I count right, 28 are done, and 5 more will join them tomorrow.

I'm not certain which date would be considered the Electoral College being counted … States vote on the 14th, the results have to be sent to the Vice President by the 23rd, and the votes are opened and tallied by the new session of Congress on January 6.

        1. The bulletin board is outside and it looked pretty fresh. I’m pondering putting my own version up next to it! You only have to spend 10 minutes with any coffee klatch in town to realize they all still hold the notion that ‘it isn’t over yet’.

          1. Consider something like this, Michael (without the quotes):

“The election was supposed to be rigged and stolen. But Trump’s people screwed it up.”

Do they mask up in the coffee klatches (except when drinking of course)?

            1. They’re so incompetent they couldn’t steal an election while holding all of the levers of power!’  RE: masks. There is practically no masks being worn here. Many businesses have a notice on their door that because of HIPPA laws they are unable to force you to wear a mask.  <sigh>

              1. HIPPA

That's how they pronounce "hippo" south of the Mason-Dixon line. HIPAA is the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, although when people reference HIPAA they usually mean the HHS administrative regulation regarding privacy of medical information.

                Two points are germane:

                1. I have no doubt that "HIPPA" appears in all the notices you referenced.

                2. Unsurprisingly, there is nothing whatsoever to the idiotic notion that the HIPAA privacy reg does what these buffoons say it does.

              2. Well, be careful. You take care of yourself in FreeDumb territory.

I was thinking of listing #s on your counter-sign:

28 states certified election results as of 11/30/20 (16 Trump, 11 Biden, 1 mixed (ME)

__3__ audits completed in Georgia, (1 audit, 1 recount)  Michigan, Arizona. Wisconsin recounted.

quotes from top GOP leaders about it being over, count ballots, move on, congratulate Biden on win

(Romney, McConnell, Porter, Blunt, Bush, all Lincoln Project)

Are there any conservative religious leaders urging country to make peaceful transition to Biden?

Any applicable Bible quotes? I wouldn't know.

Facts may not move these people. Maybe acknowledge loyalty and disappointment of Trumpers, then facts, then urge acceptance.

                1. …and AZ just certified – while Rudy is over at the DoubleTree (with new hair dye and still looking for his warm cookies) giving testimony (not under oath) to some whack-a-doodles. This is all just too delicious.  I’m now inspired to put something together for the bulletin board!!!
