Indeed. If we still had Wayne Williams, or, god forbid, Scott Gessler as Sec State, they would have let DeJoy’s instructions to “Get that ballot in the postal mail ASAP!” slide.
They also would be encouraging voter intimidation via open-carrying militia wannabes near ballot drop boxes, allow ominous warnings about ICE and old traffic tickets waiting to jail unwary voters that look “foreign”, and more.
Gessler would have purged a few hundred thousand folks from voter rolls by now. Williams would do the same, but wouldn’t brag about it.
Caldara and the Independence Institute would have likely achieved their goal of defunding elections via huge discounts to the business side of Sec State operations.
And a Republican Secretary of State would still be bragging about how smoothly Colorado elections run and what high turnout we have ( Hello all mail ballot elections, same day registration, 17 year old pre-registration, etc) -all reforms put in place by Democrats and bitterly resisted by Republicans.
Secretary Jena Griswold is doing a fantastic job- as she was elected to do. Not only for Colorado voters, but as a leader on election reform nationwide.
Gessler yes; not so sure about Williams. Would depend, I think, on how much Williams was willing to be a toady for Ken Buck & Kristi Burton Brown.

You're forgetting Mike Coffman, Gigi Dennis, and the late Vicki Buckley in the pantheon of Republican hack secretaries of state.
Donetta Davidson was the only one in the past 30 years who was competent and impartial in that office.

Reminds me of a comment I made here couple years ago; I think about the Senate District 20 election; that I had received enough mailers to wall paper a bathroom. Even Tom Tancredo publicly complained about the waste of paper. I recycled all mine at Lakewood’s Quail St. recycling center.
I heard the same from SD16 residents when I door-knocked for Tammy Story. But the paper wasteage was one-sided from Tim Neville. That's all they saw of him because he was ashamed to show his face around most of the district.
He got smoked by 14+ points.

Example: there are about 34 drop-off stations for ballots here in JeffCo, for about 600,000 people. In Harris County, Texas, thanks to three Trump appointed appellate court judges overruling a district court judge, there will be 1 drop-off box for 4+ million people. This isn't just wrong; it's totally lacking in common sense.
Well, you are right. We will need to unpack the courts faster than most moderate Dems are willing.
No choice, unless you can write voter rights legislation that will survive the Conservative courts. The majority of states actually have right-to-vote clauses in their constitution, and the question is whether the SCOTUS will try to over-ride those.
Put some really good constitutional lawyers on that one, and back up national legislation with state-by-state efforts.
The TX ballot boxes issue is still in courts. Another judge smacked down the Gov's limitation, but of course they're appealing it. Stalling for time, I think, trying to run out the clock so people have as much trouble voting as possiblle. Despicable.
Once again, the correct response to these shenanigans is mockery, against which there is no defense. Poor Republicans, they know they can't win unless they cheat.
