Jean White Appointed To The 8th Senate District
Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp issued the following statement on the appointment of Jean White to fill the vacancy of outgoing State Senator Al White.
“I would like to congratulate Jean on her appointment to the 8th Senate District of Colorado. The Senate Republicans look forward to working with her on the issues of streamlining burdensome regulations and getting government out of the way so employers can begin getting people back to work.”
Jean White is an entrepreneur with over two decades of business experience. She and her husband have operated several full service ski shops, a bike shop, and a mountain lodge.
Jean and Al White have been married for over 30 years and live in Hayden. They have two children, Devin – 31 and Jenna – 26.

I don’t know which is more surprising, Jean’s appointment or a diary by Lauren Bacall promoted to the front page.
Definately the latter.
You know I like to creep around Pols, especially when my district is involved:)
Sending creepy and vaguely threatening letters to vacancy committee members is apparently a poor strategy.
Lynn Bartels always gets it wrong too. I think this allegation of “threats” is hilarious. Pretty sure you heard that one from lynn too. The company you keep.
It will be interesting to see how Jean transitions from wife of to senator.
Apparently she’s qualified because she’s followed Al around for 10 years and knows where the pencil sharpeners are.
So the White’s say they “live” in one-half of their Hayden duplex…such a sacrifice to keep their residency in the 8th, when they have a charming place in the Denver area that they actually call home.
The fix was in on this since before Xmas. The GOP just gave the SD 8 seat away. Good job guys.
by the way I’m told the “process’ was total bullshit. Some woman from Jackson who didn’t even show up got 3 votes. Probably could have propped up my dead grandmother and she would have garnerd a few. Just as long as McConnell didn’t win, and White did.
and there was no “fix” with them. I’m sure Jean impressed them in the interviews. She’s visited every town in the district many times and cultivated a lot of relationships. She’s intelligent and she knows how to campaign and raise money. I would have been happy with her, or Bob.
Politics 101
He thinks the big problem for the state is balancing the budget, apparently clueless that the state budget HAS to balance, and does every year.
He’s a tea party sloganeer. That’s it.
Isn’t it possible that votes for other candidates were due to other factors, such as them being better qualified or not waging bizarre letter writing campaigns?
No, it must be a vast conspiracy perpetuated by… someone… who’s just too scared of Bob’s true conservative values.
Maybe if the tea party crowd could tone down their hostility and paranoia towards everyone they could fare a little bit better in situations like this.
If there were no hostility and paranoia, then there would be no Tea Party
Always works in politics
Got three votes! The process was a sham, folks, and if you had been there you would know that.
They took a series of 6 “secret ballots” and the voting changed each time. Bizarre. And yes, the woman from Walden who was on the ballot courtesy of Jack Taylor didn’t even show and she got 3 votes. Then it changed, each round, until they “magically” got to the result they wanted. The whole thing was rather pitifully orchestrated.
…when you allow your party to hold secret votes.
At least on the Democratic side, when someone attempts to hold a secret vote, someone else can drag out the party rules and use them as a bludgeon.
The GOP just loves secret votes…until they don’t like the results.
I’ve already said much on the topic in prior threads and there’s no need to Monday Morning Quarterback… that said…
…Senator White, I’m always available to help with anything that will benefit the great people of SD8
I’d vote for you
Rumor or inside info?
Indy – you’re very kind… I would love to run, but I will not be contesting SD8
Lauren – yes – Bob McConnell is my friend and he has left the GOP, citing their lack of commitment to fiscal conservatism – I’m doing my best to convince him to become a Democrat, rather than become Independent – I have sent the announcement I received to ColoradoPols if they’d like to publish it
