        1. According to CNN, Chris Christie is “Senior campaign staff” for Trump. How’d I miss that? I thought he was still NJ Governor, but apparently, he left in 2018 to become a lobbyist.

Christie will have the same comorbidities as Trump: heart, weight, stress, but probably not have a team of 11 physicians attending at his COVID bedside.

  1. Headlines this morning:

Colorado Sun:  Cory Gardner takes offensive, levels attacks in first U.S. Senate debate against John Hickenlooper: The Democratic rival attempted to ignore the broadsides from his GOP opponent but defended himself against ethics charges

CPR:  Hickenlooper, Gardner Spar Over Character, Policies At First Debate

Denver Post:  Gardner, Hickenlooper face off in a fiery first U.S. Senate debate:  Senator came out swinging; Hickenlooper kept the focus on health care

KUNC: Gardner, Hickenlooper Clash Over Pandemic Response, Supreme Court Pick In First Debate

Stories I've read make it sound as if everyone survived the hour, no blinding insights or extravagant blunders from either candidate.  Anyone think the debate influences the course of the campaigns?

    1. Hick could shoot someone in broad daylight in the middle of the 16th St. Mall and I will still vote for him.

Because if convicted, Polis can always appoint a successor.

    2. I guess Gardner is taking his cue from what he saw on Tuesday night in Cleveland. When down this low, all you can do to your opponent is attack, attack, attack.

    3. No. From what I saw of the debate, Gardner was only playing to his Fox News watching, conspiracy-theory-gobbling base. He gave them their red meat ration. It won’t make any difference in the election, and he knows it. He was just going through the motions….attacking Hickenlooper for the same things he does-accepting lavish donor perks and being in hock to special interests.

When asked by moderator Henson about his allegiance to Trump, Cory said “Colorado this, Colorado that” about 6 times and didn’t answer.

Hick was…Hick, a little disheveled ( how many times did his handlers adjust his tie and hair to get just the right level of I-don’t-give-a-heck crookedness and wisps sticking out?), bragging about environmental achievements he fought or reluctantly embraced, bragging about Colorado’s cannabis-boosted economy he also fought or reluctantly embraced, and advocating to keep the ACA as is or with a “sliding scale public option”.  But we’ll take a Frackenlooper if we get to keep our health care and reproductive rights.

Hickenlooper will get almost all of Colorado’s Democratic votes, plus enough Democratic-leaning unaffiliated votes to put him cleanly over the top.

And I, like most progressives, will vote D down the ballot, and plan on battling Hick another day.

      1. Hickenlooper will also get some Republican votes.

Not every Colorado conservative is “married” to Donald Trump, Ken Buck, Jeff Hunt, Patrick Neville, “pistol packin’ mama,” and the gent who is one of Trump’s biggest US Senate enablers.

        1. Correct, CHB. There also will be a significant number of undervotes by Republicans disgusted by Trump, Cory and Calamity Jane but who can't quite bring themselves to vote for Democrats. I'll take it.

            1. @ R & R: Jeff Hunt is one of our local, hard core, Christian nationalists. He heads up the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University.

                1. I try to be more “diplomatic,” shall we say. However, I did refer to “Christian nationalism.”

Part of the origin of yet another anti-abortion initiative; # 115; on our upcoming ballot is probably CCU.

    1. I'm all in favor of Cephalopods becoming (more) aware. I figure the octopi (wrong, but becoming popular), octopuses or octopodes have substantial thinking skills now, and could become an excellent successor or (if we are lucky) companion species.

  2. A general appeal from a group I support with time and money: the Denver Urban Debate League:

    Judges Needed for October Competiton

We need DUDL Community Members to help us judge speech, debate, and congress for the 2020 October Competition. All rounds will be held online, and at different times throughout the week. No experience necessary! We will train you on how to judge online speech and debate. Keep in mind that all volunteers will be required to complete a background check before judging synchronous rounds.

  3. When Narcissists Get Sick..

"Should a narcissist have major surgery, a car accident where they are hurt, or develop cancer" survive covid "then their journey with the illness will be the subject of equally grandiose boasts. Either their operation will be the most complex, their cancer rarer, their chemo more gruelling, or "their survival more miraculous than anyone else’s, ever! In addition, they will be able to recount exactly how many times they “died” in the table."

My question yesterday about what happens if Dump shows up in a cape and a zorro mask at the next debate may not be too far-fetched.

  4. NC Democratic Senate candidate Cal Cunningham is now apologizing for inappropriate texts to a woman who is not his wife.  God damn it.  This absolutely risks our ability to flip the Senate.  What the hell is wrong with these politicians??  I want my $1,000 back that I donated to his campaign.

    1. What the hell is wrong with these politicians??

Well, they're politicians which means they have big egos and oversized senses of self importance.

I agree that this puts majority control at risk.

But all hope may not be lost. If the past four years have taught us anything, it's people will vote for some of the most distasteful politicians in the running if they perceive an important enough incentive. (Think about those evangelicals 4 years ago who voted for the pussy grabber.)

      1. "What the hell is wrong……"  It's a malady common to male politicians of both parties, but more Republicans, in which they have a tendency to figuratively "step on their things" 'cause they can't keep their pants zipped up.

      1. At least he didn’t invite you to a fundraiser at his country club, take your check, launch into some xenophobic or racist harangue, and then expose you to COVID-19.

  5. I liked today’s quote.  I heard enlightenment defined as:

“Doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons without regard to personal consequences.”

Easier said than done but shifting the focus from the ego to the universal frees the mind to see new possibilities in the moment.

  6. Consider how things go if the bloated one "dies" and two days later walks out of the hospital?  His cult will go wild.  This obviously means he does not get to go to autopsy.

      1. How about this? Get on YouTube and pull up some Native American flute music by Alice Gomez. Her music label is/was Talking Taco Music from San Antonio, TX.

For your liquid refreshment, as you listen, carefully try a Polish Luau, a mix of vodka and Hawaiian Punch. I say “carefully” as it can sneak up on you quickly.

          1. You’re welcome. I bought “Flute Dreams” in the late 2000s from the gift shop at the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum in Dolores (formerly known as the Anasazi Heritage Center). I recommend a visit to both the Museum, currently have to call regarding access, and also the National Monument.

Canyons of the Ancients, a national monument of the original BLM (Bureau of Land Management), is a nice complement to Mesa Verde National Park and the Ute Mountain Tribal Park.

If one wants to get a feel for that part of the country; from a mystery novel perspective; try books by the late Tony Hillerman and his daughter, Anne Hillerman. All are set on the Navajo Reservation. Tony got awards from the Dine Nation in recognition of the accurate ways in how he portrayed the Nation.

  7. Cheerful viewing  for this Sunday morning:

Jamie Harrison absolutely crushing sniveling sycophant Lindsay Graham in Saturday night’s SC Senate debate. Start at 17:11

    1. Blanche looks listless and fidgety. Reminds me of that scene in 1992 when Daddy Bush was caught looking at his watch when Bill Clinton or Ross Perot was in the middle of a long-winded answer to a question.

  8. Dump's hospital videos and pics doctored.

WaPo: How the White House is trying to convince America that Trump’s illness isn’t a big deal

They didn't quite hide the cough well enough:

That awkward transition is evidence to experts of the use of Adobe Premiere’s “fluid morph” tool, a nifty bit of software that allows video producers to hide cuts. There are a number of examples on YouTube of the tool at work, such as this one. It uses software to create a transition between the end of one segment and the beginning of another but, as with any algorithm, it’s not perfect.

    1. Makeup would be really unsanitary. The hairspray and “do” will go next. No COVID Ward would allow these. I don’t think he’s coming back to White House tomorrow, with a cough, periodic dips in oxygen saturation, and obvious brain fog.

I’ll save my thoughts and prayers for the long suffering nurses, doctors, and other medical personnel that have to tend to $rump’s selfish, disease-ridden body.

  9. Trump, in control of our nuclear arsenal, is now on three drugs — Dexamethasone that is known to have potential psychotic side effects, plus two other drugs that have unknown side effects because they are so new, and have never been given together to any other single human being.  😱

  10. Is anyone monitoring the Q channels? Do they think that $rump was taken hostage by the Deep State? How is Miss Boebble head making sense of her idol’s incapacity?
