Questions for Congressman Jared Polis

  • by: DavidThi808

At 7:00pm tonight so get those suggestions in quickly.

Update: It was a really good interview and Jared answered in detail about the last 2 weeks (and a lot more). I’ll try to get this posted by tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you for the suggested questions (some were used).

  1. You’re the one interviewing him. So why not just make up your own list of questions and post the diary when you’re done? I don’t know any other “journalist” that asks others to do his homework and then ignores 90% of the suggestions.

  2. Is he voting for or against the tax “compromise?”

If he’s voting against it, did he fight against it when the Rules committee met (which they’re probably doing as I type this)?

      1. We’d like to resolve the inconsistency between the report by the National Journal that he argued in favor of the compromise, and his statement that he joined the voice vote against it. We relayed the report from a liberal blog that could be considered refuted by Polis’ statement, but the National Journal story is more credible.

Thanks as always for these, Dave.

  3. David is not a “journalist” in the sense he does this for a living. If a professional journalist would conduct him or her self in such a manner I could see where this would be inappropriate. Professional journalists get paid to conduct interviews and “do their homework”. David does not – he does his interviews as a service to the Pols community to provide relevant content on elected officials  and their views on the issues of our day. I feel soliciting input from our community in the process of citizen journalism is perfectly acceptable.

Love ya MOTR, but gotta disagree with you here.

That being said, I do have a question for Representative Polis:

The housing crisis continues to be a drag on economic recovery. Tax credits which are now expired seemed to have created a bump in the market, but the latest news is not good. The U.S housing market is on track to lose $1.7 trillion in value this year, compared with $1 trillon last year. In Nevada, 67 percent of homeowners are “underwater”, i.e owe more than their homes are worth. (source: Zillow.com)

Would Rep. Polis support “cramdown” legislation allowing bankruptcy judges to adjust the note value on loans or make other mortgage modifications?

    and a followup:

What is Rep. Polis’ stand on proposals to alter or eliminate the mortgage interest deduction (MID) as part of a deficit reduction strategy?

    1. I planned to use all of your question. I got in half and when you listen to the recording you’ll understand (I hope) why I went in another direction part way through.

I then went to a new question because I had limited time.
