  1. Unfortunately her long battle with cancer is coming to an end.

I can think of no other person who better exemplifies the qualities of strength, compassion, and a lack of resentment we should all strive for.

My prayers are with her and her family and friends.

    1. The authors took great offense at the fact that a woman who was gravely ill with cancer and knew her husband was cheating on her occasionally acted in an un-saintlike manner.

Screw them and the horse they rode in on.  She was a great lady who leaves this world a better place for her journey amongst us.

  2. From Politico:

“The deal also includes a payroll tax cut for workers in 2011 – trimming the Social Security tax rate by 2 percentage points and saving $1,400 for a family earning $70,000.”

    Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/s

But as ColoradoPols pointed out yesterday:

“Democrats wanted the continuation of an Obama-era tax break known as the Making Work Pay program, but Republicans have proposed swapping it out for a payroll tax holiday…”

And as Pam Bennet pointed out on this blog yesterday:

    “Deal Defunds SS

The more incredible part of the Obama tax cuts for the ultra wealthy is the start of defunding social Security. The so called payroll tax is what funds social security. Obama is purposely defunding ss. Which is what the Republicans have long desired. The one tenant of the Democratic Party, social security is now on the table for destruction.

SS is self funding, by cutting the funding the R’s can “privatize” it.”

    This is not good folks.

Extending Unemployment Insurance benefits can be easily passed as a separate House Bill in this session of Congress and sent to the Senate, without a vote on the Obama-Republican tax deal.  Finding the money to pay for UI is a far better option than the current “deal.”  Republicans will fillibuster it only at their peril.

    As Bloomberg reported yeserday:

“Republicans, who will control the House in January, can’t eliminate or change the law without agreement from the Senate and Obama.”

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/

As Wellington Webb once famously said, “I don’t negotiate with a gun to my head.”

By Nancy Pellosi telling Republicans to stick it, she will have set up the Republicans for defeat and send a stong message to Obama.

    1. It’s rumored that the shortfall from the tax holiday will be compensated into the Social Security fund from the general budget.

If it is, not so bad as it could be.  If not, VERY BAD.

But I have to agree with you that Republicans wouldn’t have suggested it without an ulterior motive; in two years when the payroll tax holiday expires, they want to be in the position to extend it and look good to voters – but without compensation from the general fund, thereby depleting Social Security and fulfilling their predictions.  (Gotta love self-fulfilling prophesy…)

  3. I hope you can all join Scott and I at 8 Rivers Modern Caribbean tomorrow night at 7:00pm for our CNBC Watch Party for “Marijuana Inc”.

If you can’t make be sure to check out the program http://www.cnbc.com/id/39617671/

We now return you to your political arguments! LOL

  4. What better way to take on his arch-rivals than with an apology?

(BTW, I may need to steal the image of ORANGE MAN as a new avatar for the other websites I frequent…)

  5. Texas teabaggers oppose Jewish Speaker of the House, claim to have Jewish friends in now-extremely-familiar defensive move:

“When I got involved in politics, I told people I wanted to put Christian conservatives in leadership positions,” he told me, explaining that he only supports Christian conservative candidates in Republican primary races.

“I want to make sure that a person I’m supporting is going to have my values. It’s not anything about Jews and whether I think their religion is right or Muslims and whether I think their religion is right. … I got into politics to put Christian conservatives into office. They’re the people that do the best jobs over all.

Cook insisted he is not prejudiced against Jews:

“They’re some of my best friends,” he said of Jews, naming two friends of his. “I’m not bigoted at all; I’m not racist…My favorite person that’s ever been on this earth is a Jew,” he said. “How can they possibly think that if Jesus Christ is a Jew, and he’s my favorite person that’s ever been on this earth?””

          1. How do you tell the difference between a Texas teapartier and a typical Texas Republican?

ANd the bartender said- “Don’t care  – get the helloutta my bar”.

    1. while I really love my favorite person on this earth ever, I just don’t think he’s really cut out to be the kind of great representative I need right now.”

      and, later,

“Just because he’s God doesn’t mean he’d be a great Governor of Texas.”

  6. boyles attack on the constitution of the united states continues IMHO.  The active duty colonel scheduled to go to trial next week is being supported by boyles who is calling on his listeners to flood Congress with calls and letters of support.  The colonel claims that he must have proof that the President is a “natural born” citizen before he will obey orders to deploy overseas.

Susan Green, who was fired from her column writing duties at the paper which dares not speak its name, followed a flame thrower who claimed that Obama and Coulter should be carried off in cuffs….Susie never said a word suggesting that boyles and his nutty friends were out to undermine the discipine of the military…etc….just beamed at the attention…

boyles’ contempt for his audience is barely concealed.  he can feed them any crap and they lick it up….ditto, now, for Susie.

    1. …already posted before here:

      http://coloradopols.com/diary/

And the military justice community knows all about Boyle’s sedition that all a disobedient military member has to do is lobby Congress:

      http://court-martial-ucmj.com/

It doesn’t matter for LTC Lakin and his pending reduction to PV1. The Military judge already ruled at the Article 32 hearing, and she declared this birther stupidity to have NO BEARING ON THE CASE.

This Blue Falcon is going to lose his rank, his retirement, and spend some time in Eastern Kansas breaking rocks, mowing grass, shoveling snow and beaten up (on occasion) by the other inmates.

I might have to try and call in to this asshat…
