    1. But, but, but…. the six year old girl COULD have been packing, right?

The get-out-of-jail-card for the police is "In my professional opinion, the six year old could have been reaching for a gun."

        1. And in defense of Voyageurs point, he could argue that NOT hand cuffing the six year old was expressly going against the Department policy of maximal escalation during stolen car stops.

If the un-hand-cuffed six year old had grabbed a police officer's gun and shot him, then the officer could be fired for going against policy. I mean, do you get out of jail free if you say "In my professional opinion, six year olds are unlikely to go for a gun."

      1. Not anymore:

Colorado Passes Landmark Law Against Qualified Immunity, Creates New Way To Protect Civil Rights

“Qualified immunity means that government officials can get away with violating your rights as long as they violated them in a way nobody thought of before,” explained Institute for Justice Attorney Anya Bidwell. “And that means that the most egregious abuses are frequently the ones for which no one can be held to account.”

    2. Joy Reid, who went to Montbello High School, and lived in the Aurora area as a teen, covered the  story, too, on her new primetime show, “The Reidout”.

  1. The magnitude of the spread and devastation of coronavirus was the unintended consequence of a partisan political election strategy.

Public Health vs. Politics: White House Scrapped Nationwide COVID-19 Testing Plan to Hurt Blue States

there was an additional calculation, which was expressed from one member of Kushner’s team to someone that we interviewed, which is that this was mostly affecting blue states. And if a political argument was needed, they could simply blame those Democratic governors for the spread.

And so the national testing plan was abandoned.

    1. @kickshot: some recent reading has revealed that it wasn’t just the Obama administration that left detailed handbooks on how to deal with pandemics. The Bush administration left similar stuff for Obama. Trump trashed everything.

Also noteworthy is that Trump recently moved the presidential portraits of G.W. Bush and Clinton to a seldom used room in the White House that is basically a storage room right now. Obama’s formal portrait has yet to arrive.

        1. To get an idea of Dump's artistic repertoire one need only visit any high school bathroom for a sense of the level of wit and wisdom Dump is capable of.

    1. Reminds me of when Joaquin Phoenix showed up on Letterman in character for a movie that Letterman did not know about.  Later, it became part of the movie promotion

What if the entire Trump campaign and presidency is just that? Whether or not he expected to win, he was and is convinced that being President is easy. Anyone can do it.

In his case it’s about later promoting his own tv channel, and of course, emoluments, and the after party where he gets his own tv station, and cult followers and anuitized income streams from the business side of his operation.

The guy mentioned says “…TikTok stuff is a subject where, as I said on Monday, Trump is right on the merits!”

But almost all social media platforms can sell user data and most do. They can share it with whomever they choose. So Trump would be just as right to seize FaceBook or G-mail or  or  or

      1. …and he can get the Reverend-the-Junior Falwell to be a contributor via satellite from his party yacht.  It's the contemporary version of Epstein's island. <sigh>

WWJD? (not the white one; the dark-skinned one who didn't speak English).

He'll dupe a couple of million MAGAts to send him $20/mo to defend their Freedumbs – and the crime family will laugh all the way to the bank.

        1. Jr. Falwell ISN'T a Reverend.  He got a religion degree from Liberty University (would LOVE to hear professors' opinions of how the evaluated the son of the founder and President of the University).   Then, he went down the road to U of Virginia Law School.  Graduated, came back to join a firm — which immediately became the LU's legal counsel.  Then joined the Board.  Then mourned his father's death, and was named President.

The other son, Jonathan is the Reverend, who actually got a seminary degree and is running the Liberty Road church.

So Jerry just needed to be as honest and ethical as a typical attorney. And now, just as honest and ethical as the board makes him be as President.

  2. Yesterday in Lakewood (vicinity Union and Cedar) about 50 protesters held up signs for “Black Lives Matter”, to the enthusiastic honking and support of most passing motorists at rush hour.

A youngish Latino-Asian man thanked me and the others for standing up, saying that he knew that his generation has a good example, and will be the example for others. He was registered to vote  – I asked, of course.

You can follow the group at Facebook – Interfaith Demonstration Justice for Black Lives. @LakewoodforJusticeEquityDiversityandInclusion · Community
Locations will vary – partly to cover more ground in Lakewood, partly to baffle the disruptors. So far these have been pretty mild-mannered; The “All Lives Matter” folks tend to wear clown anarchist masks, and yell obscenities from passing cars. Thankfully, they’re few and far between.

    1. How come there’s nobody holding a “Dump the Trump” sign?

Few years ago, I HAD to flip off some good old boys; and I do mean OLD; who were picketing an office building on Union a few blocks north of this location. Must have been an ob-gyn in the building who performed abortions because their signs were about “protecting unborn babies” and referred to the building.

      1. Message discipline – the event’s organizers asked us to limit signs to “Black Lives Matter”, or the names of those killed by police,or, since it’s an interfaith event, how their faith manifests equality and justice. EX: the “We Believe” sign pictured here:

        1. Haha

Like the saga of the engineer and the physicist who are taking a drive through the countyryside when they come around a hillside and find a flock of sheep grazing.

The engineer says "Look! There's a sheep that's been shorn!"

The physicist says "Well, on one side anyway."

      1. That is one corner of a 4 corner intersection. Each corner had 10-12 people, with folks moving around.

I counted 38 total – the event’s organizers, who kept track of all latecomers as well, counted at least 50. But there will be another event next Tuesday – drive by and count for yourself.

And if you decide to bellow “All Lives Matter!” at us, be prepared to be met with a smile and a friendly wave.

        1. What?  No one will shoot at me?  Definitely, I prefer the the Jeffco "wave at folks who drive by" approach to the Aurora "blockade a major highway and shoot any motorist who tries to use it" approach.

          1. VG: you need to get out more. Oh, Lakewood has its occasional issues, especially in the neighborhoods along Sheridan. Or along West Colfax, known to some as "Lakewood's smelly armpit."

In general, Lakewood is a nice, quiet, peaceful town where the cops seem pretty mellow and oriented towards doing their jobs for ALL citizens.

    1. It might be possible that the Lincoln Project will miss a beat in this part of their campaign.

Lincoln Project video editor is out over crude tweets about female anatomy

      Also:

Last week, the Daily Dot resurfaced tweets from Howe that defended Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

And Wilson just keeps giving to progressive politics:

Bush latest Ferguson protester with political success

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice

      1. Darren Wilson has now been exonerated three times — by local authorites, by Obama’s justice department under Eric Holder and again by a new local DA who ran on a pledge to reopen the case.  Michael Brown resisted arrest after stealing from a convenience store and tried to take Wilson’s gun away.  Wilson shot him in self-defense — a fact proven by physical evidence including gunshot residue.
The arc of justice has now cleared officer Wilson three times.
far ftom a racist, he was a hero given an award for saving a two year-old black boy shortly before Brown attacked him.

      2. The people running the Lincoln Project are some loathsome sacks of shit and entrails. No room for debate there. However, the enemy of my enemy is my temporary ally of convenience.

        1. Damn straight, Genghis.  Lady Liberty fought shoulder to shoulder with Joe Stalin to beat Hitler!

You understand what the Denependents of the world do not: this game is played for keeps.
