Colorado Pols Gathering in Denver - Diary # 2

  • by: Aristotle

Alright everyone. We have decided on holding a Pols meetup in downtown Denver on Saturday, November 20. (Ralphie and Ellie are currently organizing a West Slope gathering in Grand Junction on Saturday, December 4, but this will be just about the Denver meetup.) We need to decide a couple of other things.

I think it should be in the afternoon – say, 2:00 or 3:00. Downtown is a nightmare to get around if you’re driving (although you can park at the Broadway & I-25 station and take RTD or the light rail from there), and all the restaurants and bars are going to be jammed by 5:30, maybe earlier. (There’s a Nuggets game that evening.) If you all agree, that’s the time I’ll make the reservation for.

Also, I want to put up a poll for the place. We have ahttp://www.wynkoop.com/ lot of nominations for the Wynkoop (close to light rail [route X on weekends] and 16th Street shuttle, big, was founded by the governor elect); the Cheeky Monk (the best beer selection, not far from the other end of the 16th St. shuttle and the Broadway and Colfax buses, cozy), and the Falling Rock Taphouse (good beer selection, a bit further from the light rail but not too far, someplace new).

So please vote! I’ll take the tally tomorrow morning at 9:00 as final. In the meantime, if anyone feels strongly about the time, please comment now.

UPDATE: The votes are in and we’re going to the Wynkoop! I have posted a new diary in which I ask you to indicate if you’re planning to attend.

Thanks for helping with the planning, and thanks to Ralphie and Ellie for organizing a gathering for our West Slope friends.

Where should we meet?

    1. central location, great beer, plus Beej will refuse to set foot in there in order to maintain his ideological purity.

Whats not to like about Wynkoop ?

          1. But that doesn’t mean the votes from Boulder Polsters will show up any time before Sunday. And even then, many of the votes will be missing. This ain’t over yet!

            1. So we can come in at the last minute, when a candidate is strapped to the tracks and the train is about to come and the villain is getting away and all hope seems lost… HERE COMES THE CAVALRY!

Are you finally coming to one of these things? I’d love to meet you.

  1. I voted for Wynkoop on my husband’s recommendation and because it’s the only name I recognized.

Either 2-3:00pm works for me. Not like I’m going to have other plans! 😉

I’m very excited about meeting you guys.

    1. It is refreshing to this daughter-of-the-south (OK, not the south but a border state that was awfully close to the south) when people use y’all correctly.  Hold your head high and say “y’all”!  This language needs a second-person plural (but not yooz).

  2. Wynkoop’s ideal. It’d be great if the Hick himself were there, even though he doesn’t own it anymore. And thanks for the early hour. Us old folks, you know, have to get back to our McGyver reruns.

I’ll be the one blocking the door so Emerald can’t flee–and H can’t get in.

And I promise to watch my pottymouth. Unless the Warrior or BlowJob is there. They’d better bring  “protection”, ’cause I’m going to bend ’em over a pool table. (And paddle them. You thought…? Eewww.)

P.S. Do we bring our stage names, or do we out ourselves?
