  1. President Trump, trailing badly in the polls, floated the idea of delaying the November presidential election:

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???

David Plouffe: “The line between autocracy and democracy just become threadbare. Every GOP leader and candidate needs to be asked to respond to this desperate attempt to cling to power.“

      1. Isn't it unlikely that this will clear the PA district and State Supreme courts to get to the US SCOTUS before this fall? Or did you mean that it is headed for the PA state SCOTUS?

    1. The Tin-Pot Dictator-wannabe doesn't want to give up the job where he does not take responsibility for anything, nor care about the people hurt most by his actions.

The perks are just too enticing:  unlimited pardon power, immunity from prosecution, and a phalanx of toadies ready to fulfill his every whim.

Now if he can just get rid of that pesky ol' election that threatens to put the kibosh on his dreams, all would be right in TrumpWorld.

    2. When he realizes he can't move the date and no viable way to mess up the landslide against him he'll resign so there is no ignominious defeat and Pence can pardon him.

      1. Squirrel.

        Pay attention to actual news:

GDP down 10% in one quarter (30% – yearly)

COVID ramping up in states and areas with air-conditioning and anti-masking.

        Election disenfranchisement.

        1. More real news:

          1.43 million new jobless claims

“dueling speeches on the Senate floor appeared to be aimed at setting up political blame as Congress remained on the cusp of failure to reach a deal as expanded jobless benefits for some 20 millions Americans were poised to expire Friday.”

          1. The "investigation" into the e-mails is alive and well thanks to far right wing whack job Tom Fitton and his Judicial Watch group.

Why, if you read Fitton's b.s., and I got another fat envelope full of it yesterday, you'll know that the Mueller investigation "completely cleared" Trump of any Russian collusion in the 2016 election.

One gets on real interesting mailing lists by subscribing to National Review and Mother Jones.

        2. And, this happened after an unprecedented Trillions of dollars were thrown at the economy during the second quarter.  We're now facing a $4 Trillion plus FY20 budget deficit.

          1. You know if he should get re-elected, Trump will ask Congress to enact a new chapter to the bankruptcy code to allow the federal government to get relief.

  2. From Salon: Just the opinion of two psychiatrists and a clinical psychologist. Probably worth noting.

Would-be dictator Donald Trump would be unstoppable in a second term. That must not happen

…As mental health professionals, we cannot remain silent. Trump's authoritarian presidency is a national emergency.

Donald Trump is a malignant narcissist with antisocial proclivities and a core sadism. It is this combination of psychopathology that leads him to be intensely attracted to the powers of a dictator. Indeed, Trump has proven repeatedly that he wants America to be an autocracy, not a democracy. He has systemically and purposefully guided our country toward dictatorial rule during the past four years. He has frequently embraced, admired, complimented, envied and even fawned over autocratic leaders throughout the world.

Donald Trump in a second term would be unstoppable. And America might be changed forever.

    1. Nominee for this year's Darwin Award.  It is just a question how many others might give him some stiff (pun intended) competition.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, GOP mask skeptic who tested positive for virus, says he’ll take hydroxychloroquine

  3. A bit of good news from Denver (my emphasis):

After responding to a link on a webpage and filling in a survey on working as an elections volunteer, I got this email yesterday

Thank you so much for your overwhelming response to our recruitment survey in the first week we have already over 500 responses.  This is amazing!  We are currently going through the responses and starting to do initial placements and we are hoping assignment emails will start going out mid-August.  Please stay tuned for more information.

    Thank you!

  4. Another whack job Trump nominee gets the hook — from the GOP chairman!

The Senate Armed Services Committee canceled Thursday's confirmation hearing for Pentagon policy chief nominee Anthony Tata, who's under fire for once calling former President Barack Obama a "terrorist leader," among other controversial statements.

It is unclear whether the hearing will be rescheduled or if Tata's nomination will be withdrawn. A statement from Senate Armed Services Chair Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said the committee didn't have enough information to hold the hearing Thursday.

  5. Holy Crap — Even the Federalist Society founder is calling Trump a Fascist

Trump Might Try to Postpone the Election. That’s Unconstitutional.

He should be removed unless he relents.

    By Steven G. Calabresi

Mr. Calabresi is a co-founder of the Federalist Society and a professor at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law.

I have voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including voting for Donald Trump in 2016. I wrote op-eds and a law review article protesting what I believe was an unconstitutional investigation by Robert Mueller. I also wrote an op-ed opposing President Trump’s impeachment.

But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.

  6. Caption this. The Twitter thread photoshops are fantastic.

Notice how short-fingered vulgarian's  fingers were awkwardly lengthened after the image was finished.

The author of "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?", and the woman who said, "I freed a thousand slaves – I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves." (Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman) weren't bloody likely to lay hands in blessing on Donald Trump.

  7. Checking a variety of the prediction sites, and was stunned to read The Economist's Model conclusion:

Right now, our model thinks Joe Biden is very likely to beat Donald Trump in Colorado.  9 electoral votes

Chance of winning  the most votes

Joe Biden  Democrat  better than 19 in 20  or 99%

Donald Trump Republican less than 1 in 20 or 1%

    Predicted popular vote share

    Joe Biden  52-61%

    Donald Trump 39-48%
