My Ken Buck Conundrum

  • by: Tom

As a Weld County resident, I’m torn about the senate race.  While I think Ken Buck would make a horrendous senator, I already know that he’s a pretty terrible district attorney.  If Buck wins this election, he’ll be one of a freshman class of republican senators destined to be known as ineffective extremist clowns.  If Buck loses, he’ll continue as the legal authority that literally holds the power of life and death for me and the rest of my fellow residents.

I don’t want the guy to be my senator, but I really don’t want him to go on being my district attorney.  Sure, I’ll vote for Michael Bennet and celebrate if he wins.  I’ll probably have to down a few on election night to steel myself for a few more years of Ken Buck’s anti-immigrant conservative grandstanding.

  1. Being a rapist lover is one thing in his sought after position, quite another in his current.

So if you care about admitted rapists running around free as birds… vote for a different DA.

Rough position for you.  Of course, I don’t have to deal with him once he fades back into the woodwork.

  2. But when Bennet wins we will welcome you to the Democratic “Sancutuary City” of Denver where your chances of seing Buck are less likely than seing a Chupacabra.

  3. He can only get re-elected to one more term as DA in Weld.  That is, unless Sean Conway’s stooges on the County Commission decide that 3 terms ain’t enough, like they did in 2007 (deciding that 2 was not enough).

OK. Sorry.  Our problem in Weld really sucks, but I have sworn never to vote for Ken Buck ever.  Not even half way.

      1. You might have just given progressives a reason to vote for Ken Buck. I’d love to see him overhaul Denver. Maybe after he’s done in the Senate. The only think better than that would be President Ken Buck…

        (chill out, it’s a joke)

      2. but if he loses the Senate race, he has zero futrue in Colorado politice, because he becomes Beauprez 2.0: a joke, a candiate who ran a terrible race and blew the Republicans’ odds (maybe Beauprez would never have won, but by running such a bad top-ticket race, he may well have discourages R turnout, to the benefit of J.Salazar & Perlmutter).

So I really think if he loses, his next obvious job is in private practice, which means his next job is outside Weld, because at some Denver 17th Street firm, he can earn >$200K.

        1. that a loss in this election will pretty much disqualify Buck from seeking any other higher office.  He has already set his sights higher than the state legislature, so we probably won’t see him settling for becoming Scott Renfroe 2.0. His lack of fundraising ability and scorched earth tactics with the statewide republican establishment hasn’t made him the kind of friends that will help push him to a statewide or congressional seat.  Private practice or think tank sinecure seem like his only options.

Too bad Weld Democrats have so much trouble fielding DA candidates or we wouldn’t be in this mess

          1. Appointed a judge next time there’s a R President or Governor. But he may have to wait a while, and he’s already 51 yrs old; if Obama is re-elected in 2012, he’ll likely be too old in 2016 for a federal judgeship (not too old to do the job, just too old for a President’s preference, since the parties like stacking the bench with younger nominees).
