  1. Not Colorado, but neighboring New Mexico.

    TheHill.com
Trump on Roswell: 'I won't talk to you about what I know about it, but it's very interesting'
When asked if he would declassify the information he’s referring to, Trump said: “Well, I’ll have to think about that one.”

  2. Ah, the ultimate narcissist — if he doesn't know something, nobody could have known it either:

"I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous," Trump said. "It's actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it." –– Donald J. Trump

    1. “I did something good:  I’ve done more for Taco Bowls than any other American President.  That’s important!  But nobody knows that.”

      That Guy

    2. The National Weather Service has issued a Tweetstorm Warning for… the entire United States, including parts of Alabama * Until 1000 PM EDT on June 21st. * At 1400 PM EDT, a severe news report capable of producing a Category 6 tweetstorm was located in the New York Times, moving rapidly across the country, …TWEETSTORM SOURCE….The usual.  IMPACT…Expect damage to mobile homes, roofs, vehicles, sensibility, decency and lives. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. This clusterTtumper will produce widespread significant damage. Do not wait to see or hear the Tweetstorm. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building; and turn off all media for the next 48 to 54 hours. God have mercy on your souls.

          1. Meanwhile . . .

(yes, this is an actual quote, from an interview yesterday with a WSJ reporter)

Trump: “Yeah. After the helicopters came over, the hats went up, the general said, Sir, Are you ready? I said, I’m ready. And he led me to a ramp that was long and steep and slippery. And I said, I got a problem because I wear, you know, the leather bottom shoes. I can show them to you if you like. Same pair. And you know what I mean, they’re slippery. I like them better than the rubber because they don’t catch. So they’re better for this. But they’re not good for ramps. I said, General, I got a problem here. That ramp is slippery….

So I’m going to go real easy. So I did. And then the last 10 feet I ran down. They always stop it just before I ran, they always stop it. So, I spent three hours between speeches and saluting people and they end up, all they talked about is ramp. … If you would have seen this ramp, it was like an ice skating rink. So I’m the only one that can happen. But the church is an interesting thing. I mean, here I spent three hours on stage, the sun pouring in and I saluted 1,106 cadets, and that’s not easy. Even the general said, That’s amazing. Other presidents would never have been able to do it. Because usually they do the first 10. They do 10 honor rolls, and then they go home. I stayed there for hours. And what do I do? I get publicity about walking down a ramp. And does he have Parkinson’s? I don’t think so.

            1. Bloomberg weighs in…

The Road to Racial Justice Runs Through Tulsa

So even as Trump straps his political life to the backs of Confederates and segregationists, something good can come of his visit to Tulsa — if more Americans talk about Greenwood and the injustices it represents, and if we turn that dialogue into concrete actions in our own lives and communities, including exercising our power at the voting booth.

That’s the path we must walk, together, to finally redeem the true promise of Juneteenth.

              1. Last year I stumbled into an evening presentation by the California Book Club on the history of Woody Guthrie and his role in Los Angeles-area politics.  It was a great evening opening up a chapter in history I missed somewhere along the way.  This story just makes my love Woody more:

‘Racial Hate’: A famed folk singer, Trump’s dad and angry lyrics at a Tulsa landmark

“One of the signs that will greet President Trump on Saturday in Tulsa reads “This Machine Kills Fascists.”
It’s affixed to a guitar on a huge mural painted on the side of the Woody Guthrie Center, just six blocks from the arena where Trump is holding his first campaign rally during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In 1950, Trump’s father was Guthrie’s landlord in Brooklyn. Guthrie didn’t think much of Fred Trump when he wrote these unrecorded and unpublished lyrics, which were found in the Guthrie Center’s archives in 2016 by Will Kaufman, a professor of American culture at the University of Central Lancashire in Great Britain.

                I suppose
                Old Man Trump knows
                Just how much
                Racial Hate
                he stirred up
In the bloodpot of human hearts
                When he drawed
                That color line
                Here at his
                Eighteen hundred family project

The Trump development was called Beach Haven, a public-housing project for veterans built with federal loans. As a Merchant Marine, Guthrie qualified to live there.”

            1. Tulsa is about to find out why I call T***p,  the Orange Destruction. Tulsa is going to ignite. There is no leadership to stop it. The president is inciting violence.

  3. Juneteeth celebrates the day in 1968 when Donald Trump graduat ed from college with a proven IQ of 19 points.  It has declined steadily every day since.

    Very few people know that.

  4. Seven years ago, Juneteenth 2013, at 9:13pm ET the US House of Representatives approved Polis Amendment 37 to House language that would, for the first time since 1933,  legalize the cultivation of hemp by farmers in states where it was a legal enterprise. Jared would make the case with a hemp flag in his hand, made in Colorado.  Two weeks later we would fly that same flag over the Capitol.

As a contrast to this occasion, and the utter stupidity of white folk, I had the misfortune of walking across the Capitol grounds earlier that day and ran across one of the Koch-funded Tea Party events complete with headliners Steve King, Louis Ghomert and Rafael Edward.  Gohmert and  King were whipping the crowd into a frenzy over the reportedly 11 million illegals in our country (with shouts from the crowd that it was twice that many). Not to be outdone, Rafael took to the podium and had the crowd in a trance as he talked about the evil Democrats and the 'Gang of 8' in rather unglowing terms. (Marc Rubio is not a popular figure with this crowd).

There was an abundance of 'God Bless You!' and 'Do I hear an Amen?!?'. And Gohmert's speech was complete with a call to de-fund SNAP because, you know, that's exactly what Jesus would want you fine white people to do.

If the Republican party has any questions as to why they may no longer be a functional, national party all one has to do is stand in the middle of this crowd and observe.

Lindsay Graham quipped the same day that if the Republicans can't find a way to build a bridge to the Latino community they will be in an unrecoverable death spiral. After standing amongst this crowd today, I couldn't agree more Senator.

Here are a couple of photos from that day.

    Merika….<sigh>

    Rafael signing memorabilia:

    1. Speaking of hemp, which leads me to marijuana, there is a petition underway in Lakewood for a ballot initiative to legalize retail sales, that I think could be sold from medical marijuana dispensaries.

I signed it earlier today…anything to stick it to the radical right wing religionists at Colorado Christian U. whose influence has kept retail pot sales out of Lakewood, and the tax dollars going to other jurisdictions.

Disclosure: I have never directly smoked anything and never will. Signing is a freedom and liberty thing for me.

      1. I did my share of weed in college but it has probably been 40 years since I blew it.  In quantity, it gives you shit for brains if I judge from a few of my over indulging friends.  As a general rule, it is better to legalize and regulate things like drugs and prostitution than to try prohibition.  So, yeah, you did the right thing in signing — and not using.

        1. We are finally having these public conversations about the roots of this War on Colored People because the citizens of Colorado said 'enough' via Amendment 64 in 2012 – and the dominos began to fall:

Library Of Congress Highlights Racist News Coverage Used To Justify Criminalizing Marijuana A Century Ago

The Library of Congress (LOC) is documenting racist depictions of marijuana in early 20th century news coverage that helped to drive the criminalization of cannabis, highlighting sensationalized articles about the plant that the federal research body says effectively served as “anti-Mexican propaganda.”

  5. Anybody heard from RepealandReplace lately?  I miss him.  He used to spell me at the hard but necessary job of keeping kwtree chained in the basement.

  6. I guess, in America, if you’re white enough, then no one looks at your birth certificate, and even entitled birther Slovenian porn stars get to celebrate the day without any reservation? . . .

Melania Trump Posts Juneteenth Tweet And Gets Dragged For ‘Birther’ Past

The [entitled birther Slovenian porn star] was lambasted for previously accusing President Barack Obama of faking his birth certificate.

    . . . Is best.

Next up: Ivanka welcomes in their annual celebration by lighting the family’s traditional Juneteenth Shabbat candles …

    1. It seems to me that showing she was reading TO someone would have made it … IDK…. more human?  Even with social distancing, there could have been a Zoom audience of a few kids.
