Last year I stumbled into an evening presentation by the California Book Club on the history of Woody Guthrie and his role in Los Angeles-area politics.  It was a great evening opening up a chapter in history I missed somewhere along the way.  This story just makes my love Woody more:

            1. Tulsa is about to find out why I call T***p,  the Orange Destruction. Tulsa is going to ignite. There is no leadership to stop it. The president is inciting violence.

  4. Juneteeth celebrates the day in 1968 when Donald Trump graduat ed from college with a proven IQ of 19 points.  It has declined steadily every day since.

    Very few people know that.

  6. Seven years ago, Juneteenth 2013, at 9:13pm ET the US House of Representatives approved Polis Amendment 37 to House language that would, for the first time since 1933,  legalize the cultivation of hemp by farmers in states where it was a legal enterprise. Jared would make the case with a hemp flag in his hand, made in Colorado.  Two weeks later we would fly that same flag over the Capitol. 

    As a contrast to this occasion, and the utter stupidity of white folk, I had the misfortune of walking across the Capitol grounds earlier that day and ran across one of the Koch-funded Tea Party events complete with headliners Steve King, Louis Ghomert and Rafael Edward.  Gohmert and  King were whipping the crowd into a frenzy over the reportedly 11 million illegals in our country (with shouts from the crowd that it was twice that many). Not to be outdone, Rafael took to the podium and had the crowd in a trance as he talked about the evil Democrats and the 'Gang of 8' in rather unglowing terms. (Marc Rubio is not a popular figure with this crowd). 

    There was an abundance of 'God Bless You!' and 'Do I hear an Amen?!?'. And Gohmert's speech was complete with a call to de-fund SNAP because, you know, that's exactly what Jesus would want you fine white people to do. 

    If the Republican party has any questions as to why they may no longer be a functional, national party all one has to do is stand in the middle of this crowd and observe. 

    Lindsay Graham quipped the same day that if the Republicans can't find a way to build a bridge to the Latino community they will be in an unrecoverable death spiral. After standing amongst this crowd today, I couldn't agree more Senator.

    1. Speaking of hemp, which leads me to marijuana, there is a petition underway in Lakewood for a ballot initiative to legalize retail sales, that I think could be sold from medical marijuana dispensaries.

      I signed it earlier today…anything to stick it to the radical right wing religionists at Colorado Christian U. whose influence has kept retail pot sales out of Lakewood, and the tax dollars going to other jurisdictions.

      Disclosure: I have never directly smoked anything and never will. Signing is a freedom and liberty thing for me.

      2. I did my share of weed in college but it has probably been 40 years since I blew it.  In quantity, it gives you shit for brains if I judge from a few of my over indulging friends.  As a general rule, it is better to legalize and regulate things like drugs and prostitution than to try prohibition.  So, yeah, you did the right thing in signing — and not using.
