A Quick Word About Decorum

(“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”  Since I am the soul of decorum at all times, I accept that challenge and hereby warn you #*$*#($*&@! to clean up your mother@!@#%& acts!  That didn’t quite come out right, but anyway, the Pols injunction to “Be Excellent With One Another” is worth remembering here. – promoted by Voyageur)

This is Colorado Pols. This is a political blog that’s open to all who care about Colorado politics. It allows people to post anonymously and the site’s administrators aggressively protect the registered users from outing. Because of all these factors, discussions often grow heated and many have degenerated into juvenile name calling pissing matches over the years. Such is life here on Pols, and as one who has done his fair share I wouldn’t go around telling anyone else not to do that.

However, I’ve noticed lately that things have started sinking to lows I haven’t seen since I first made the scene in the Spring of 2006. Namely, certain participants have gone beyond simple name calling and degenerated into gross sexual innuendos. (I may be using the wrong word, but the old mental thesaurus is down.)

Seeing as this is unusual for Pols (unlike the rest), I’m calling on all the regular participants to please stop going there. It’s going to be a hot two weeks, and I’m sure we’ll all getting into a lot of arguments, but let’s keep this just a bit above the gutters, please?

Thank you.

                    1. Making the same pompous ass statement 100 times doesn’t mean you’re not a pompous ass.  It just means you’re a repetitious pompous ass.

OVer and over and over again, you remind the rest of us mortals that we’re unworthy of your greatness.

We can just live with that.

                    2. I know, I know, Voyageur: you’ll say BJ drives you up the wall so much that you can’t help yourself.

But I wonder: If BJ didn’t exist, perhaps you would have to invent him.

As a way to excuse your tween language – this from a guy old enough to have served in ‘Nam.

                    3. You demand that all posts be especially respectful in language — like when you call other posters “numb nuts.”

How could I have forgotten that rule;-)

                    4. This is a case of the rare exception proving the rule.

In any case, your reply was unresponsive: you’re certainly old enough you ought to be able to think/argue on a higher plane.

                    5. Have a lovely afternoon & evening! 🙂

NB: I don’t consider vulgarity particularly ‘refreshing’….speaking of stale, this diary is a day old, let’s get out of here, eh?

                    6. I do want to note that the author of the diary specified he didn’t object to even grossly insulting language, such as the “blow job” parody on bjwilson’s name.  But it was the graphic description of sexual acts, in excruciating detail, that ruined our buzz, too much “ewwww ” factor.  The post by Froward that prompted Ari’s diary had just such a all too detailed description.

Anyway, you’re a good man, SL, even if I do trash you from time to time.

                    7. we’ve had a number of polsters like bj in the past. They usually tire after a while and go away, although most of them had the depression of the GOP’s misfortune as an added incentive to finally give up on us.

Anyway, I for one enjoyed the relative quiet when those polsters were gone, and plan to do so again when beej inevitably tires of Pols. No need to invent him since his kind finds this place sooner or later.

                    8. If you’re a Beej and Colorado Pols didn’t exist, you’d have to invent it, eh – in order to have something to rail against. 🙂

Although, Ari……I’m not so sure exactly how much ‘depression of the GOP’s misfortune’ will be abroad in the land on the morning of 3 November.

Think we Dems gonna get our clocks cleaned unfortunately…

    1. I think it’s still OK to call someone “Blowjob,” it’s just being suggested to maybe not describe blowjobs in quite so much detail. It’s starting to sound like Bob Saget in “The Aristocrats.” That’s how I read it, anyway.

      1. Calling beej “blowjob” falls under name calling, not gross sexual innuendo. Some virgin eyes might not be able to distinguish the difference (and some would be hypocritical to complain about that, given that they’ve engaged in the exact same behavior with the screen names of others), but you read me correctly, sxp.

              1. that’s a pretty good comparison to how mature the entire comment from him was. But the irony of him screaming at me about Buck’s misogyny and then calling me that was just too rich for words.

Some folks aren’t as good as walking the walk as they are at talking the talk, you know?

                  1. Middle of the Road really believes he is superior to us poor hicks in the sticks.  The elitist rant about how cool they are.  Gosh I guess I should take my writing as seriously as Middle of Nothing.  “I’m such a cooler writer than you that I am entitled to hold you in contempt because like I told you I’m really cool”.

Buck has repeatedly shown to the voters of this state that he has a big problem with his attitudes towards non-white men.  Not even this demigod of writing can spin that one way.

            1. Home Sweet Gilpin

If you think I care one way or the other Middle Of The Bullshit what your opinion of me is than you are as big a delusional narcissist as I guessed you were.

Gilpin might be a rural county but I think of it as a crown jewel of the Front Range forests.  The Gilpin forests are in really healthy shape heading into the winter and the beetle flights were mild all summer long.  This photo was taken from the top of Tremont Mountain in Golden Gate State Park.  The view of the Continental Divide from 10,00ft is unmatched.

            2. Lost Lake Indian Peaks

The photo was taken at Lost Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness.  Lost Lake is the next drainage over from the Corona Bowl at Eldora Mountain Resort.  The chutes are right above my head and bracketed by the trees.  Right Chute is 40+ degrees and Left Chute is even steeper with a choke point.  It’s a place where you drop in when you want to do something really fucking gnarly and dangerous.

Little Lord Fauntleroy of the Road would be airlifted out in a body bag if he ever tried to follow me down one of my lines.  My aspirations to ski the backcountry well into my 60’s is something little mister superior writer will never understand.

            3. San Juan Mountain Goats

These goats were in Twin Lakes Basin below Windom and Sunlight in the Needles Mountains near Durango.  You take the narrow guage train from Durango to a drop off point called Needleton and then hike up to Chicago Basin.  From there you have access to four 14er’s (Eolus, North Eolus, Sunlight & Windom).  I thought of being in the Twin Lake Basin as being before the Throne of the Mountain King.  It was a reverent visit and I bagged three of the four in a single day and did about 7,000ft of vertical that day.

I have news for those who think I get anxious about not receiving approval by that literary mistro Middle of the Bullshit.  Sorry but I have too much fun outdoors to fret about what some anonymous prick thinks about my writing.  Only really fucking assholes would take anything on this forum seriously.

              1. I’ll put you out of your misery.  I was trying to stay out of this thread, being an offender.  I think everyone’s enjoying watching you make a fool of yourself, but MOTR is a woman.

                Sorry for spoiling the fun.

                1. She lives in a mountain town. I won’t name it since Pols has clamped down on revealing info that polsters have freely given, but GG could take the main road through his county straight to her town. (Well, with a couple of left turns, but the highway name, if not number, remains constant.) Although I didn’t see him say so outright, but GG seems to assume that MOTR is one of us Front Range heathens.

                    1. get a few minutes to catch my breath every couplke hours and see what’s up on CP. Hope you’re having the same MOTR.

                    2. off in November so trying to get everything wrapped up. I like to travel worry free. 🙂

                    3. because I called you out about your hypocrisy over Romanoff.

I might be clueless but at least I’m not a self absorbed elitist like MOTR.

                    4. but I’ve been places you’ll never see.  Popping tight turns in the trees on a perfect powder day is about as close to Valhalla as I’ll get in this lifetime.

Do you really think that I care whether an anonymous Internet dick is either male or female?  Personal opinions by Internet bloggers is about as important in life as a fart in the wind.  It’s just a joke that smells bad.

I might be clueless but I cranked out a damn snappy set of photos that I’ve never seen you do.  I’m technicolor compared to your drab black and white snottiness.

                    5. Your opinion is like a fart in the wind.  It’s a joke that smells bad for about a second then dissipates forever.

                    6. Decorum and proper conduct are based on standards of behavior. When dealing with a snotty concern troll like MOTR the usual reply is to tell them to go fuck themselves which in this case would be difficult since she doesn’t have a dick even though she is one.

I did a photo essay instead to highlight how insignificant personal opinions are by Intenet bloggers and how run of the mill your supposedly superior blogging skills are.  You’ve never put out anything like what I did in this diary.  It was artistic and caustic at the same time.

I call this one “Living the Dream”

                    7. MOTR did the concern troll outrage when I used the term misogynist do describe Buck but he has repeatedly shown that he holds women to a lower standard.  Womens equality is not on his radar.

Any woman who votes for Buck is a Judas to her gender.

                    8. of subtlety and irony. I didn’t read the exchange you refer to and don’t care to. I’ve known MOTR since I’ve been on this site and have no doubt if you two were arguing, she was right and you were wrong.

                    9. but you know I’m wrong.

If this was Introduction to Logic 101, you would flunk the course.

“I don’t like you so you are wrong because only the people I like are right.”

                      Really?  That’s your argument?

How does you liking or not liking me have anything to do with proving or disproving the arguments in this instance which you freely admit you haven’t read?

I’m not wrong about Ken Buck and his positions regarding women.  Ken Buck is no friend of women and has shown no inclination that he will further womens equality issues.  There are actually examples cited in the news where Buck doesn’t believe that women deserve equal protection under the law if they have had a legal abortion.

If this concern troll wants to stick to discussing the issues, decorum says that I should confine my comments to the validity of the arguments.  If she wants to use my name in her posts to boost her petty image of herself then I am free to use the full force of my creative capabilities to express in the most direct manner possible my dissatisfaction with her posts.

                    10. I don’t think it is possible to be subtle on a site like this when there are so many jackasses claiming to know who is good and who is bad.

It is like showing you my best photos.  Do you really think I would display my best here?  That is like throwing pearls before swine.  They are fine photos but their beauty is wasted on slobs like you who are only interested with being a mean sorority bitch. The fact that I don’t express subtlety in my posts doesn’t necessarily mean that I am incapable of it.  I might just choose to be sledge hammer direct because it about the only way to break through these veneers of arrogance and at some point start a real conversation.

          1. And I’ve made it a personal point to avoid calling beej by that name. And I try to avoid name calling in general, although sometimes someone does something that I consider to be really offensive – namely, state their opinion that some Americans aren’t worthy of their Constitutional rights, as beej and others have done on occasion – and I find that I give in to temptation then. But “blowjob” is too easy.

You might think that indicates and inability to debate above the belt, and you may be onto something, but there are times when you get angry and it’s healthy to unload that anger in the source’s direction. And when said source has proven to be ignorant, insensitive, and an all around asshole, then such a reaction is entirely warranted IMO.

As I said in my diary, I’m calling for folks to keep it just above the gutter. I won’t ask for everyone to climb some ivory tower of sorts. It ain’t gonna happen.

            1. that we should attempt to stay outta the gutter not move into an ivory tower as well. I agree that there are times that overwhelming anger at the ignorant shit bj spews can only be expressed with some of our more colorful words.

Describing sex acts seems a bit much though.

            2. As I said in my diary, I’m calling for folks to keep it just above the gutter. I won’t ask for everyone to climb some ivory tower of sorts. It ain’t gonna happen.

You know me well enough by now to know I’m a lover not a fighter.

If only we could keep the fightin’ above the belt, and the lovin’ below the……ah, never mind!! 😉

  1. I read this a couple of hours ago, and thought it seemed like a bit of an over-reaction to some recent playful ribbing.

Then I read the Fox News Poll thread, and I now agree fully. Regardless of someone’s greater point, comments don’t have to include a heaping dose of douchbaggery.

  2. I appreciate conflict.  But I have been turned off by the graphic details of something being in someone else’s mouth that I and others have been subjected to of late.  If we can’t self-regulate either ColoradoPols will need to step in or people who might otherwise contribute will just leave.  I hope the self-regulation works.

  3. when reubenesp called me a nazi sympathizer? Or when I was called a socialist/communist for calling for a communal sense of respectful debate?

I’ve been called a lot of unpleasant things here, and that’s why I took some time to get away from here. I came back to find that the venom spewed to opposing ideologies had gotten worse.

I’ll say that this is a bipartisan issue, and there are a few that go beyond criticising policies and go for personal insults because they have no intellectual response.

I’ll also admit to past harshness, but I’ve come back to trying to find honest debate. Given many comments of just the past few days, I’m not holding my breath.

  4. …and yes, I did use a crude sexual comment to call out H-man for his constant shilling for Buck (and others.) But I confined it to one use, and the only one obsessed with it was Libertad, who made it his sig line for some strange homoerotic reason.

But like everyone else here, I’ve been the recipient of enough other insults, particularly from Libertad. But I’ve never gone off in a huff and stopped posting because of it.

No one else on this site should as well.

I’ve got no problem calling a profanity cease-fire on Pols, but I will respond in kind to anyone who goes after me. I expect the other regular Polsters to do the same.

What’s a better way to bring up the conversation on this website? – write better posts. Libertad and BJWilson83 (Among others) seem to be using autofill scripts to post the same tired crap over and over again, without backing any of it up.

    1. Though the horsies will still beat your egg sucking Raiders twice on their way to their third straight 8-8 seasons.

        Colorado, the

TABOR state, where mediocrity remains an impossible dream.

  5. As a casual visitor, and infrequent poster, I come to Pols to learn from people who know more about Colorado politics than I.

Lately, a diary about an interesting topic may have 300 posts, but 280 of them are 2-3 pollsters carrying on like pre-teens (I know you are, but what am I…)  Getting useful information or opinions means wading through so much vitriol and personal attacks that I am tired of the thread before I learn much of anything.

We can all disagree about politics, but let’s put the childish personal attacks aside.

    Except for BJ.

    He deserves them.
