The New and Improved ColoradoPols

Welcome to the new and improved Colorado Pols!!!  We’re changing software and making a few other modifications to speed the operation of the site and make things easier for everyone.

The first change you’ll notice is that we are going to a login system. We’re doing this because a login system helps us better control spam comments (for things like Viagra and porn sites) and helps prevent spam filters from blocking legitimate comments. A login system also speeds up the comment process in general and prevents other people from commenting under someone else’s name or ‘handle’; two people can’t be ‘Joe From Denver’ anymore.

We also wanted to add a diary system to Colorado Pols, where people could create their own blog entries. In order to do that, you need to have your own account so that diaries can be organized according to author. If you aren’t familiar with a ‘diary’ system, basically you can now blog your own posts at Colorado Pols, and fellow users can recommend it.

If you wish to comment on any of the stories below, or if you wish to create your own diary and blog a new entry yourself, you’ll need a login ID and password.

If you have consistently used the same username and email address, the conversion process to the new site has already created for you.  To see if you’ve already got an account, click the Forget Your Password?, enter the username/email you have used, then check your Inbox for your default password.

If you don’t have an account – Signing up is easy.  Just click here to create an account.

We’re not interested in trying to figure out who you are, so feel free to make up a fake Hotmail or Yahoo account for your login information. The only reason we need an e-mail address is to send you a login password.

If you do create a dummy e-mail account, just don’t forget your account information. The only way to recover a forgotten password is to ask us to e-mail it to you. Your login information will not be shared with anyone.

Rules for Comments and Diary Entries

1. We’ve always had one big rule: You may disagree, but you may NOT be disrespectful. Inappropriate language and vulgar comments will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal.

2. Attempts to float a negative rumor about a candidate or campaign are absolutely not permitted. If you write, ‘Joe Smith is having an affair with his neighbor,’ then you had better have the proof to back it up. Otherwise, your comment or diary will be promptly removed. Anyone who continually attempts to do this will have their account disabled.

3. As always, press releases are not permitted in the comments section. If you want to post a press release, put it in a diary entry.

Okay, that’s about it. If you’ve got any questions, ask them below. Now get to blogging…

  1. However, you gave me a new user name.  I have always been Roger D, but when I requested a new password you sent one to my email account, but the username was not the one I have always used.

    Is it a mistake?

I don’t want to have usurped someone elses user name

I am still Roger Dalkins (Roger D) despite having you assign me the mysterious user name of DIDREX.

However, I am glad for the new software.  The account and login feature will improve the discussion level.

    Roger D

  2. I basically used two different usernames in the past, usually my own name, but a different, more appropriate username when I was simply promoting my party.  I used the same email address for both usernames.  However, my old email account was discontinued last year but they still forward email to my new email address, which I started using this year.  My comments made using my two different usernames were made under the two different email addresses depending on which email account was active at the time.

My previous comments now appear to be archived but separated depending on which email address was in use at the time, not username, with the username assigned to the comment according to the email address used, not the username used.  Is there a way to correct this and resort and relabel my comments according to the username used originally, not the email address?

If I determine that a different username is more appropriate for a different series of comments, such as regarding a particular issue, will the system allow me to set up another username using my same single active email address?  Or does it allow only one username per valid email address?

If I try to set up a new username using an email address already used by one of my usernames, what happens?  If the software allows that, will all previous comments under that email address be relabeled with the new username?  Would comments then be deleted from the comment archive list under the old username?  Would the previous username and account using that email address be deleted?

Maybe I’ll have to finally set up a Yahoo email account or two anyway.  I currently am unable to send email from home and have to fix this problem I’ve had for the past three months I keep procrastinating on.

I’ll probably have more questions later about using diaries, since only Colorado progressives (Democrats) from squarestate.net have previous experience using SoapBlox.

I especially like the flagging of new comments.

  3. It looks like I can’t go to the following story by clicking the name at the top, but have to go back to the homepage, find the next story and then click on it.
