Vice President Mike Pence landed moments ago in Colorado Springs to speak at the Air Force Academy’s as-socially-distanced-as-possible commencement ceremony. Vice President Pence was met on the tarmac at Petersen Air Force Base by Gov. Jared Polis, and it appears a fairly…animated discussion took place:

To be a fly on that tarmac, right? We’re excited to hear what they were talking about, whether it’s the recent FEMA ventilator grab in the headlines or COVID tests with your 7-Eleven Big Gulp. Or maybe Gov. Polis is starting with the basics, explaining to Pence that COVID didn’t “disappear” after all. Stay tuned, and feel free to speculate in the meantime.

The class of 2020, this is your day. But you know you didn’t get here on your own. Back in Indiana, we have an old saying, that when you see a box turtle on a fence post, one thing you know for sure is he had help getting there. And I know each and every one of you know that is especially true with such accomplished men and women seated before me.

I don’t know WHO is writing this — but they are ill informed, to say the least. The “post turtle” is standard joke, used by politicians (according to Wikipedia, including Bill Clinton,[1] George W Bush,[2] Barack Obama,[3] and Donald Trump. [4]).

An old rancher is talking about politics with a young man from the city. He compares a politician to a “post turtle.” The young man doesn’t understand and asks him what a post turtle is.

The old man says, “When you’re driving down a country road and you see a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a post turtle. You know he didn’t get up there by himself. He doesn’t belong there; you wonder who put him there; he can’t get anything done while he’s up there; and you just want to help the poor, dumb thing down.”

Now, if Pence had used it in reference to himself ….

      He's there because he jumped at the chance to run with The Screaming Yam. He knew that after the fury over the turn-away-the gays law in Indiana, he was going to get his ass handed to him in his re-elect for Governor, and he wanted to stay on the public service dole for the rest of his life. Ir's not like he could get another job.
